Children must be between ages 5 and 18 as of the first day of class in order to participate. Students from the Fall 2017 session must return their registration form by December 9th in order to guarantee class place-ment. Due to high demand for lessons, it is possible stu-dents who are new to the program will be entered into a
lottery system for class placement. We make every effort to accommodate anyone who submits a registration form by the December 19th deadline. The classes will run for 8 con-secutive Saturdays, followed by an opportunity to practice for and participate in a skills competition. Registration forms are available in the rink lobby as well as on our website, www.fdia.org/programs. Don’t delay, register today!
Earn While You Learn
Introducing Dupont Dollars Fort Dupont Ice Arena recently introduced a new rewards program for our Kids On Ice® students — Dupont Dollars. For every event and activity they participate in, our KOI skaters earn Dupont Dollars that can be used towards ex-clusive Fort Dupont gear and other fun items. The first step to earning Dupont Dollars is to have a parent and/or guardian sign a permission form. From there, students can sign-up for our special events and pick-up our take-home activities. For more information go to our website and start earning your Dupont Dollars today!
Former Washington Capitals player Paul Mulvey stopped by to take the ice with our Kids On Ice® Learn To Play Hockey stu-dents on October 7th. Paul was drafted by the Capitals in 1978 and practiced here with the team when Fort Dupont Ice Arena was the practice rink for the Capitals. Thanks, Paul!

Halloween Fun at Fort Dupont During Saturday classes and the public skating session on October 28th, our Kids On Ice students participated in a Halloween Costume Contest. Every skater who dressed up received 1 Dupont Dollar (see article on page one). The best cos-tumed skater for Speed, Hockey, AFS/Synchro and LTS during received $5 Dupont Dollars. Skaters had to present to the judges and state their name, who they were dressed as and act out their character. Costumes were judged based on effort and dedication to costume, originality, and the story behind the costume/character they chose to represent. The winners were:
KOI P.L.U.S.: 1. Dorothy Centofanti dressed as Katniss from The Hunger Games 2. Jaiden Harris-Thomas as Harry Potter from Harry Potter 3. Layla James as a Cheerleader
Learn to Skate: 1. Young/Ginyard/Coleman Family - SWAT, police and criminal 2. Clementine Centofanti - Zombie/Vampire 3. Webb Brothers - SWAT We saw so many great costumes and lots of originality!
Many thanks to Paul and Tomeka Gueory (pictured right) who have both recently volun-teered their time and talents to the rink. Tomeka, a Friends of Fort Dupont Board Member, put her IT skills to use getting an old laptop back in service. Paul, KOI dad of Tenaj, Phoenix and Payton, and a devoted friend of the rink, has made some much needed plumbing repairs throughout the rink. What a power couple! Thanks for all your help.
KOI Alumna Lia Cattaneo organized eleven fellow DC area Truman Scholars (pictured left) for their Truman Day of Service volunteering at the rink on October 28th. After spending the afternoon addressing and stuffing envelopes for our annual fundraising drive many of them laced up skates and got out on the ice! Thanks so much for your help!
KOI Skaters Visit Gardens
DC Urban Greens gave guid-ed tours of the community gardens behind the rink on Saturday, November 4. KOI skaters who took the tour earned Dupont Dollars and a chance to sample some local-ly grown produce.
