“TAKING A LESSON” WHY TAKE A LESSON? For a beginner, learning from a Professional rather than from your mistakes will save years of frustration. For more experienced golfers, learning what you are doing wrong and how to go about correcting it can often end a season of searching and experimentation. For the advanced golfer, refining and upgrading can help move you to the next level. WHEN TO TAKE A LESSON? Anytime is fine, but preferably not right before an important round of golf. Most people take a lesson when their golf game is in crisis but often instruction can be very beneficial when things are going well! HOW TO TAKE A LESSON ... To have a successful lesson, effort and cooperation are required by both the student and the instructor. Here are a few tips: 1. Agree on realistic goals - Talk with your instructor

and decide what you want (bandaid cure, long-term improvement, etc.).

2. Be an active learner - Ask questions. Learning is the learner’s job. If you do not understand or agree, ask your instructor for an explanation.

3. Avoid non-compliance - When you get a golfing prescription, take it and give it a chance. Habits are not easily changed.

4. Practice - “It is not enough to know what to practice, the real key is getting yourself to do it.” - Gary Player

5. Patience - Changes take time and taking changes from the range to the golf course takes even more time. Be persistent.

6. Be prepared for temporary setbacks - Changes can expose other faults. Focus first on what you are trying to improve, work to ingrain it into your swing, and then move onto the next area.
