Dear Friends of the MAC,

If you have one resolution in 2017 – we hope you’ll resolve to fill the New Year with creativity!

At the MAC, our mission is fairly aspirational, to change lives and make memories through creative arts experiences. Change lives? Absolutely! How can this be done? By bringing people together through a diverse offering of experiences that spark learning and encourage creative conversations.

Look at our schedule - everything from painting and drawing classes, to intriguing exhibitions and moving performances. The MAC offers the opportunity to learn, laugh, challenge your perception, stretch your dreams, pick up a new instrument or make your own movie. All of this while you are surrounded by other like-minded people who are interested in creating their own dialogue. The MAC is your place to create.

Without even knowing it, you have or will become part of a trending term called creative placemaking. Defined as an intentional leveraging of the power of the arts, culture and creativity to serve a community’s interest while driving a broader agenda for change, growth and transformation in a way that also builds character and quality of place.

All of us creative types will embrace and acknowledge the power that the arts can have on us personally, professionally and as change agents. I believe the MAC has made our community a better place to live, play and work. The MAC continues to raise the bar on the quality of life and creates the opportunity to explore some pretty incredible creative conversations. The MAC is your place to share your thoughts and dreams.

As we reflect on 2016 and look forward to new beginnings in 2017, thank you for taking part in our creative community!

friends of the Mcconnell arts center (fRoMac) Join us!As members of FRoMAC, we provide important support to the MAC by volunteering for many events at the center. These range from ushering at concerts in the theater to hanging art work for exhibitions in the galleries to conducting tours for elementary school students. Whatever your talents or interests may be, we have a place that will fit you perfectly.

Another important part of our mission is to support local art education. We are very pleased to award an art scholarship each year to a talented graduating senior attending a high school in the Worthington Public School District.

In addition, we hold four general meetings each year. These fun and informative meetings include presentations by talented artists from many different fields, as well as opportunities to socialize and meet new people.

FRoMAC is open to everyone wishing to support the MAC and local art education. The membership fee is $25.00 annually, and requires membership to the MAC at any level.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

volunteer spotlight: holly Williams Holly Williams is a longtime supporter of the arts and has a history of public service. An Ohio native, Holly had recently relocated to Worthington in 2010 and discovered the MAC by chance. She began volunteering as a front desk attendant, and over the years her role has evolved to include ushering and event support. When asked what she enjoys about being at the MAC, Holly says, “I like meeting all of the people, the patrons who come in…being a part of the art community, and seeing all of the cool stuff that goes on here: the events, the theatrical stuff. It’s a great place to hang out!” Although Holly works full time, she has always prioritized community involvement and takes advantage of the MAC’s late hours by coming in to help out after work. Her advice? “Reach out; make the time. Try to fit it in and make it part of your routine, your schedule…it will be that much more rewarding-that you’re doing it.” We are certainly grateful for your generosity and dedication, Holly!

If you are interested in lending a hand during one of our many, varied, creative arts experiences, concerts, receptions and other special events, please contact Jenn Dalton, [email protected] to be added to our database. Every month volunteers receive an email with all upcoming opportunities. The perk of volunteering is attending said event for free. We hope you will take part and volunteer to bring art, music, film, dance, theater and more into your life and into our community!

It’s not art, but it feels that way to us. And if it helps you achieve your dreams, it can feel that way to you, too.
