AGAINST THE FIELD OF 64The Seminoles played a total of 14 matchesagainst 12 schools that made the 2019 NCAAWomen’s Soccer Championship, including fivenational seeds and five schools from the ACC.

AGAINST BROWNThis will be the first meeting between Florida State and Brown in soccer. Brown advanced to the second round, winning 4-1 in PKs against Monmouth in the first round. The bears made it into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994 after winning the Ivy League.
AGAINST SOUTH FLORIDAFlorida State is 9-0-1 all-time against South Florida. The two teams have matched up in the NCAA Tournament twice, both resulting in Florida State wins. W, 2-1 (2010) and W, 3-1 (2018). They last met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season resulting in a 3-1 FSU victory.
NATIONAL SEEDFor the 15th straight season and 16th timeoverall, Florida State received a national seed inthe NCAA Tournament.
After finishing the season with a record of 15-5-0, the Seminoles earned a No. 1 national seed forthe eighth time in school history.
In addition to FSU’s eight No. 1 seeds (2009,2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019),the Seminoles have been a No. 2 seed four times(2005, 2006, 2008 & 2010), a No. 3 seed in both2007 and 2016 and a No. 4 seed in 2017. The onlyother time the Seminoles received a nationalseed was in 2003 (11th).
HOME RECORD IN NCAAFor all of the success that Florida State has seen in the NCAA postseason, the Seminole Soccer Complex has been a place where that success is nearly guaranteed.
Overall, FSU has posted a 45-1-1 record in the NCAA Tournament at home, winning every postseason game in Tallahassee, other than a 2-0 loss to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the 2009 tournament and a 1-1 draw to USC in 2018 before triumphing 5-4 in penalty kicks.
The Noles have outscored their opponents 139-16 at home in those 47 matches, including a cumulative score of 86-6 over the last 28 games, dating back to 2010.
Florida State recorded a streak of 13 consecutive shutouts at home in the NCAA Tournament and did not allow a postseason goal at the Seminole Soccer Complex for 1224:16, a span from Ole Miss in 2013 to USF in 2018.

HOT START IN THE ACCFlorida State started ACC play 5-0 for just the third time in program history. The Seminoles did so with a win over No. 9 Clemson and No. 20 Virginia Tech on the road and with two shutout wins.
FRESH FACESThe Seminoles welcome 8 newcomers to the squad in 2019, including 7 freshman and a sophomore transfer
NEWCOMERS GRABBING PLAYING TIME• All eight Seminole newcomers have grabbed double-digit playing time in at least one game this season.
• Freshmen Jenna Nighswonger and Heather Payne along with sophomore transfer Abbey Newton have led the fresh faces in Tallahassee.
• Nighwonger has played in 18 games with 17 starts, recording five goals and five assist. She scored two in the overtime win over No. 24 Colorado and backed that up with two assists against Villanova that same week. Nighsonger earned her second multi-goal game in the ACC opener against Boston College.
• Payne has started all 15 games she has played in with two goals and one assist of her own. She has helped anchor a back line that has recorded eight shutouts this season.
• Newton has played in 19 games, starting in 18 of them. She recorded her first Seminole goal against Samford. She followed that up with her second goal on a penalty kick against Villanova. She also recorded an assist against Villanova. Newton recorded her second assist of the season on Deyna Castellanos’s goal against Clemson. Newton scored the games only goal against Pitt on a penalty kick. Newton is fourth on the team in points with three goals and three assists.
SEMINOLE SCORING MACHINE• After not scoring more than two goals in their first five games the Florida State offense came alive in the game against Samford, scoring six goals in a shutout win over the Bulldogs. • It was the fist time since 2015 that Florida State scored six or more goals in a game and

15th time since Mark Krikorian took over in 2005.
• The Seminoles had a scoring barrage once again against Villanova, scoring five goals in their fourth shutout win of the season.
• The Noles put up five goals once again in their ACC opener against Boston College when they came away with a 5-4 win. It was the 17th five plus goal game under Krikorian.
• With five goals in back-to-back games (Villanova & Boston College) it was the first time the Noles scored five or more goals in two straight games since the first two games of 2009.
• FSU outscored their opponents 28-10 during their nine game win streak ( 9/6 vs. Florida - 10/10 vs. Virginia Tech)
• Florida State outscored their ACC foes 18-11 with three shutouts during the regular season
MULTI-GOAL GAMES• Florida State has had three different athletes record multiple goals in a game.
• Jaelin Howell was the first to do it with two against Samford. Jenna Nighswonger followed that up with a two goal game of her own the next game against Colorado, making it the third straight year a Seminole freshman has scored multiple goals in a game.
• Yujie Zhao earned hers in the game after that against Villanova.
• Nighswonger did it once again against Boston College, making it four straight games that the Seminoles have had a player score multiple goals in a game.
MCFARLAND THE GATOR KILLER• Kristen McFarland once again proved to be the Gator Killer, scoring a goal for the second straight year against Florida.
• In 2018 she scored the games only goal in the 88th minutes. This season she tied the game up with a goal in the 57th minutes
• She followed up her performance against Florida with another goal against Samford in her first start of the season.
• McFarland scored her third goal of the season against Boston College on a deep pass through the middle by Deyna Castellanos.
POST SEASON MCFARLANDIn the last two seasons, Kristen McFarland has dominated the post season scoring five goals. She scored two goals in the ACC Tournament a season ago and one more this season.
McFarland started off the 2019 NCAA Tournament strong with a two goal performance against South Alabama.
CASTELLANOS RISING IN THE RECORD BOOKS• Deyna Castellanos is second all-time goals at Florida State with 47.
• Castellanos is also in second in points at FSU with 114.
• Deyna is also in a tie for first with 19 game winning goals.
NOT JUST A GOAL SCORER• Deyna Castellanos leads the team in both goals and assists.
• Castellanos leads the team with 11 goals and currently ranks second in school history with 47.

ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK• Deyna earned ACC Player of the week on October 1 after scoring two goals and assisting on another in wins over No. 9 Clemson and Syracuse. They were her sixth and seventh goals of the season.• She Earned ACC Offeensive player of the Week for the second time on November 5 after coming away with the game winning goal over No. 9 Duke on the last day of the regular season. She also earned a goal and an assist over No. 22 Clemson in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinal.
ALL-ACC TEAM DOMINANCE• The Seminoles dominated the All-ACC awardstaking home ACC Offensive Player of the Year(Deyna Castellanos), Midfielder of the Year(Deyna Castellanos) and Defensive Player of theYear (Malia Berkely).
• The Seminoles led all teams in the ACC withfour members of the All-ACC First Team. Alongwith Castellanos and Berkely, Jaelin Howell andYujie Zhao made an appearance on the All-ACCFirst Team.

In 2007, Mami Yamaguchi won the MAC Hermann Trophy, the first and only player in school history to win the award. Yamaguchi led the country in points that season with 66, while finishing second in goals (24) and assists (18).
TDS PRESEASON BEST XITopDrawerSoccer released its 2019 Preseason Best XI teams, and Florida State had a country high five members among the four different teams.
Sophomore Yujie Zhao received a spot on the Best XI First Team, while senior Deyna Castellanos and redshirt junior Malia Berkely received spots on the Best XI Second Team.
Sophomore Jaelin Howell earned herself a spot on the Best XI Third Team and while newcomer Jenna Nighswonger was named to the Best XI Freshman Team.
It is the third year in a row that Castellanos has been chosen to the preseason teams and second straight year for Zhao.

FSU VERSUS THE ACCThe Seminoles have an all-time ACC record of 125-77-25.
Florida State is 103-33-18 in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU’s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is 62-10-6 against league opponents at home and 41-23-13 on the road.
FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 11 times (2005-10, 2012-15, 2019) over the last 14 years, claiming three regular season titles (2009, 2012 and 2014).
HOME SWEET HOMEFlorida State is 164-14-9 at home since 2005 when Mark Krikorian became head coach at Florida State.

FSU owns an all-time record of 130-56-11 in September and has won 48 of its last 59 matches played during the month of September. • The Noles are 86-20-8 in September under head coach Mark Krikorian and have 62 shutouts.

• Florida State head coach Mark Krikorian took over the Seminole women’s soccer program in 2005 and has turned FSU into a national title contender on an annual basis.• In his first 14 seasons in Tallahassee, Krikorian has led FSU to a 2014 and 2018 National Championshp, 10 Col-lege Cup appearances, including a recent string of four straight trips (2011-15), four appearances in the national championship game (2007, 2013 and 2014, 2018) and six ACC titles (2011, 2013-16, 2018).• Under Krikorian, FSU is the only school in the nation that has ranked in the top 10 of the final United Soccer Coaches poll 12 times in the last 14 seasons. • Krikorian recorded career college win No. 400 with a 2-0 win at Virginia Tech in 2017 becoming the 16th coach across all NCAA divisions, and eighth in Division I, to reach that milestone.

ACC PRESEASON POLLAfter earning ACC Championships in six of the last eight seasons, the Florida State soccer program is again expected to have a strong season in 2019 as the Seminoles were voted to finish second in the league but lead the league in first place votes.
FSU tallied 185 points and trailed only North Carolina who received 188 points and six first-place votes. However, the Noles topped all schools with eight first-place votes and were also one of two schools to place multiple members on the 2019 Preseason All-ACC Women’s Soccer Team – senior Deyna Castellanos, redshirt junior Malia Berkely, sophomore Jaelin Howell and sophomore Yujie Zhao
OPENING DAY UNDER KRIKORIANFlorida State improved to 19-5-1 all-time on opening day, including a mark of 13-1-1 when opening the season at home.
