Today’s Gospel is the famous parable of the Pharisee and Publican. What the Pharisee could not see and the Publican could was that all goodness and all grace come from God! The Publican in humility called out for God’s mercy while the Pharisee thought that his good actions justified him before God. The good we do is God’s grace working in us and we do it with humility and gratitude for God’s love. What good works can you do this week that will give witness to God’s grace and love and mercy in your life?

The Parent Bereavement Retreat will be held at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Belton Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This retreat is for parents, grandparents or guardians/foster parents who have lost a child or grandchild. Siblings who have lost a sister or brother are also welcome. Whether the child died “in the womb,” during childhood or as an adult, the loss of a child or grandchild is significant at any age. Louis A. Gamino and Franciscan Father Albert Haase will help lead this retreat. Gamino is an author, speaker and licensed psychologist at Baylor Scott & White Health.
