nudibranch, a variety of sea slug. They have the highest "you're kidding me" factor

of any animals I've ever heard of. They look like art projects . If you saw them in a

The Superb Bird-of-Paradise.

Found in the tropical rain forests of New Guinea this bird is definitely one among the

coolest creatures on earth. While there is nothing striking about the female it is the

male that will blow your mind. Owing to stiff competition among males to attract

females the bird has developed a spectacular feature where it fans out its feathers

that make it look like a smiley face and puts up a dance around the female. Thestriking combination of black and electric blue make it look like a bird from Avatar's

Caught in Gulf of Mexico.

I find this creature cool because:

A) It changes the perspective about monsters from mythical to factual!

B) It looks like a result of an orgy between The Great White, Piranhas and the Alien

(the double jawed creatures from the Hollywood movie Alien vs Predator).

C) How the mere physical features of this animal scare the living daylights out of

many of us. The fact being they only feed on crustaceans and celephods.

The Florida black bear. Very, very cool.. . even when there's one in the median of

the highway and he stops t raffic, makes you late for work :)

The males are enormous-- the one pictured isn't as large as several specimens I'veseen. The biggest one I saw was on a county road on a drive in from out of state, in

a remote area. He was twice the size of the bear pictured and strolling alongside

the shoulder of the road in broad daylight.

The babies though-- they're adorable. The smallest one I've ever seen was about as

tall as a medium-sized dog and ambling after mama. :)

Chillin' out in Daytona... not just for the two-legged anymore!

Tough not to get anthropocentric about this one, as by being "cool" I would imagine

it to be "sexy" in urban terms!!

My vote goes to an animal who is a complete package.

Ermine, that is famous for its fur, is what you would admire in a person (aha.. For

the gender sensitivity one had to maintain in public forum!!).

It can look really good and cute and even "beautiful" when needed; but is an athletic

devil that has lithe body that flows like fluid in motion. It is an animal so full of

SPUNK that kills prey larger than itself.

It is a weasel in white coat.... Cunning, smart, confident, aggressive... Designed to

succeed.

It doesn't need to depend on us to support it because it is an aggressive intruder

that manages to survive on its own.

Why mince words... Modern urban working woman, someone who can be

everything and still more?

The mantis shrimp lives in warm, shallow water and typically grows to be between

15-30 cm in length.

It has two raptorial appendages which accelerate at the same velocity as a gunshot

from a 22 caliber rifle, fast enough to make the water around them boil.

I would say the coolest animal I've seen by far. Would be the Oar Fish, also known

The 3 toed Sloth (Bradypus) without hesitation is one of the coolest creatures on

earth.

The 3 toed sloth are found in Central American forest suspended from branches by

their claws.

They spend 20hours of the day sleeping. Sloths have adapted to living in trees so

well they even mate while hanging from branches.

Slots mainly leave their tree to urinate or defecate about once a week.

Sloths are excellent swimmers. They sometimes will drop from a tree limb into

water and use their long arms to swim with broad strokes.

The three-toed sloth can rotate its head nearly 90 degrees or more, and its mouth is

shaped in a way that makes the animal appear as if it's always smiling.

Sloths travel at 200metres an hour. How cool is that. Seriously "Festina lente".
