Rationale

Since its inception, SAVE ME Movement has stood as an advocate of relevant changes in society. It promotes the education of children through its Sagip Bata Program to push for universal literacy. It conducts Lakbay Aral, Sanay at Gabay in the communities and schools and Lakbay Kalikasan to foster awareness among young urbanites on the situation in rural areas and appreciate the beauty of nature. It also spearheaded the conduct of conferences cum recreational activity like Kampo Kalikasan to gather leaders from the academe, environmentalist, and the youth sector to galvanize a concerted response against the environmental problems, both in the physical and social realms. The Movement is in the frontline combating the menace of society.

Being an official partner of the Commission on Higher Education and with full recognition on the power of synergy, the movement aims to enlist student leaders, Sangguniang Kabataan, campus journalists, student affairs officials, NSTP coordinators and other well intentioned members of society to this tall order of formulating a road map in the campuses and in the communities in line with the concerted effort in addressing the fundamental cause of climate change on a personal, organizational and institutional levels. The convention will serve as a melting pot of the

best of ideas of the stakeholders that will be discussed and assessed to bring about a relevant response from the youth/student sector. It will also create a vast network of movers for change that will be inevitable in the implementation of relevant programs towards the betterment of society. Finally, the convention is a venue for the making of a covenant among the youth in its quest for a safer, more secured, reduced risk and better World.

Now on its 16th year, SAVE ME Movement, in partnership with active institutional stakeholders on the issue, aim to gather the best paradigm, ideas, principles, concepts and approaches as regard to efficacious climate change adaptation and disaster risk mitigation from prime movers and advocates. The facilitation of a healthy, relevant and efficacious presentation and exchange of ideas to come up with a pro-active road map on the issue are aims of the 3 nd

Annual SAVE ME Movement National Convention to be held in one of the Philippines finest natural beauties, the famous Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan.

Goal

To enhance the awareness, concern and responsibility among the stakeholders on climate change and its multi-dimensional impact to the communities that will translate into policies, programs and projects in the different educational institutions to help in abating and mitigating risk to life, safety, security and properties.

Objectives:

1. Initiate partnership and networking of major institutions and stakeholders on the issue of climate change adaptation and disaster risk mitigation;

2. Facilitate an open presentation and exchange of ideas among stakeholders with the end of crafting a practical climate change adaptation strategy and disaster risk mitigation initiatives that are doable on a personal, organizational and institutional levels;

3. Facilitate the presentation of participants as regard to what their respective institutions are doing or planning to do in order to address climate change and mitigate the risk of disasters at least in the campuses;

4. Craft a collective and common program that can be implemented in the different formal learning institutions for climate change adaptation and disaster risk mitigation;

5. Organize the “Disaster Management Volunteers of the Philippines” to bring together volunteers on disaster management in the learning institutions and communities;

6. Renew the commitment and dedication of the youth/student leaders and youth/student serving institutions in the defense of life and life sustaining elements in the universe; and,

7. The crafting of a declaration that will spell out the core of advocacy for climate change adaptation and disaster risk mitigation and serve as a rallying point among stakeholders in the communities and in the campuses.
