Simple Gifts! The best things in life are FREE, as you will discover in this workshop! It’s time to TURN OFF televisions and computers, and TURN ON talking, reading, and sing-ing to children. Children don’t need more video games or battery toys! In this work-shop, you will rediscover the power of “simple gifts” you can give to children. Dr. Jean will demonstrate songs, finger stories, and activities that will help chil-dren fall in love with language and books. And the real “magic” is the joy that will come back to you as you share these special moments together!

Educational Opportunities Overlooked

Helen Darling is a mother of triplets, chil-dren’s author and plays in the WNBA for the San Antonio Silver Stars. Educa-tional opportunities are oftentimes over-looked within the classroom. Helen will share creative techniques that allow teachers to 'teach with what they have'. Helen will also incorporate and demon-strate techniques used in Yummy Tummy Tuesday that include simple learning activities that promote literacy and exercise.

Remembering Relationships: the Key to Understanding and

Effecting Early Childhood Mental Health

Kadija is Director of the Infant-Parent Program at the University of California, San Francisco.

This presentation will focus on young children’s (birth-five) relational experi-ences as their source of information about themselves and the world they live in. The contribution of these important relationships with both parents and child care providers to child’s mental health will be described.

Friday Night Concert Free for Conference Attendees and $6

for the General Public For nearly thirty years the three-time Grammy-nominated Trout Fishing in America has been delivering their witty, intelligent and original brand of music to audiences across the United States, Canada and parts of Europe. Their con-certs are sparked by exceptional per-formance skill and musicianship, engag-ing the audience from the first notes to the final encore. Their concert will show-case the songs of Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet garnered from their nearly three decades of writing and performing together.

Developmentally Appropriate Sequence of Mathematic Skills in

Early Childhood

This workshop will focus on the develop-mentally appropriate mathematic skills for preschool and kindergarten. After identifying the appropriate sequence of skills, the participants will be able to en-gage in using manipulatives to explore ideas for teaching each skill. The partici-pants will also be given ideas for crating engaging and fun learning centers, with the emphasis on independence, while supporting skill development.

Musical Keynote with Ella Jenkins

"You'll sing a song and I'll sing a song, and we'll sing a song together." That's just what Ella Jenkins has done for more than 50 years in preschools, festivals, auditoriums, early childhood conferences and concerts around the world. The First Lady of Children's Music has made the world a better place by helping teachers and parents bring international folk songs and original compositions into their class-rooms, homes and hearts, and giving young children their very first exposure to the joy of music.
