The Marine Building Description

The main area on the ground floor was designed by Hammond/Wilson Architects whose reputation is for only the highest quality designs

using the highest quality materials. The space, materials and details were designed to display the craftsmanship of the skilled artisans that

West River Builders employed.

EXTERIOR:

Reclaimed cobblestones from the streets of Philadelphia were used in the walkways and porch area. These 3 inch thick granite cobblestones

are bold and distinctive. The new shutters were added to the building in the style of the time period. The majority of windows were

replaced with new true divided light double hungs. The units are 9 lights over 9 lights. It is a design that will be repeated throughout the

building. The oversized custom mahogany front doorway with its nine light signature is 7 feet tall and 2 1/4 inch thick. Its mortise lockset

and appearance is a bold prelude to the craftsmanship displayed within the building. A handicap ramp is provided for access to the porch.

ENTRYWAY:

The entryway space is large and dominated by the sweetgum figured paneling.

The flooring is Portuguese limestone.

The ceiling is arched with walnut beams. The appearance of the ceiling is nautical in nature.

MAIN WORK AREA:

The work area for the staff is accessed off the entryway. Built-in desk systems for two work areas have been designed. The countertops for

these areas are solid oak.

A work area adjoining the main office has a pocket door for privacy. This room contains significant cabinets and work space. This is also the

location of audio/video systems that have been roughed in.

SECONDARY WORK AREA:

Also adjoining the main office area is a secondary work area. This area can be used as private office space or as work space for the staff. The

oak flooring matches the main office area. The paneling on the walls is identical to the entryway area. The West River itself can be viewed

from this room. This room is large and contains separate controls over the heating and air conditioning system. The entrance to this room

can be locked to ensure privacy.

CONFERENCE ROOM:

This room is accessed from the main entryway. The doors leading to the conference room are custom built pocket doors. Each of these

doors is custom 9 light French doors. These compliment the nine light features of all windows and doors. The flooring is antique wide plank

heart pine. The paneling on the walls in this room is a painted raised panel style. The ceiling is adorned with walnut beams. The audio video

system allows this room the ability to maximize the conference room experience. The room’s chandelier and lighting system is

impressive. An exterior door leads to a covered side porch that provides for rest and relaxation.

PRINCIPAL OFFICE AREA:

This room is private and very spacious. The flooring is wide plank antique heart pine. The walls are paneled in wide planked figured black

gum. It also has a fireplace with a granite surround and hearth. The walnut fireplace surround is elegant and features the craftsmanship of

another time. The storage closet is included.

POWDER ROOM:

This room is distinctive in its unique approach to a complementary style of wood paneling with respect to the other rooms. Th e flooring is

reminiscent of a 19th century style tile and its application. The chandelier is an antique Victorian fixture. Its glass work is a thing of

beauty. The powder room is designed to be handicapped accessible.

KITCHEN AND EATING AREA:

The flooring is period in nature. The tiles are one foot square and accented by a beautiful green and white combination. The KraftMaid

cabinets are maple with a handsome honey spice finish. Countertops and backsplash are granite. The kitchen area is large with respect to a

typical office requirement and has a large eating area included.

GENERAL NOTES:

In addition to the custom doors used, all other interior doors are reclaimed 3 panel doors from an earlier period when thickn ess was that of

exterior doors. The hardware and weight of the doors are expressive of the quality used at that time. A central vacuum system for the

entire space is provided. The attention to detail is prevalent throughout. Many additional features can be seen but not noted in this

description.
