5.) Dawn of the Dead Analysis

This opening shot shows a full mosque with people praying

inside. It is shown using a hand held camera.

A non - diagetic interview is being played over the sequence. it reveals that there is a disease killing people worldwide. Quick fast shots of a diseased man in a bed being with-strained is constantly shown in bursts. It is

hand held and has a home video affect. This immediately rivals the genre of the film and

what the plot is based on.

The man being interviewed is finally revealed. The affect on all

the clips show that they are being watched off the television, to make the viewer feel as if it is actually happening to them.

Clips of world wide riots and chaos is shown, and scratches and cracks

in the screen are added to emphasise the destruction and

disorder. The screen is pixelated and of a low quality.

So far in the sequence it has been implied that there is a world wide spread of panic and the

use of the white building indicates a setting for the film, such as America and the use of heavy artillery also indicates that there is some sort

of force they are fighting. The white building is centralised in the middle of the screen to show

power and position.

The title is finally revealed and immediately states the word ‘dead’ which

reenforces the idea of there being zombies or some sort of diseased bodies.

Both ‘dawn’ and ‘dead’ are in a bigger font and are bolder stating their

importance. The rhyme use is catchy and easy to remember using alliteration.

The title then immediately scatters with a blood affect or

some sort of spreading infection, as do all the production team names and cast. Each name scattering of into a different

direction.

This image is used as transition from one clip to another. It reveals a couple of stated

cells coming together. This adds the affect of disease and a sort of scientific background being involved. The quality is low and it is being seen through a microscope, with a

blood red filter.

This is another transition of a ‘zombie’ on camera. It is assumed that it is an early

infected person o found footage. The gore implies that the age rating is quite high and

that it ia a horror.

The news report implies that the disease if of large importance and

that it is on a large scale. The footage looks old and not modern giving a setting and era. The filter

lets us see this clearer.

Throughout the whole sequence quick fast transitions are used. The use of the black hand shows anonymity and that it

is grabbing you such as the disease itself. There are only three fingers shown and it

has a blood red background.

This us of a transition implies a loss of signal and something that has

gone down. Just like the human race in this film it has gone out or has

been destroyed. to black.
