5th Grade Team plans lessons according to our

Georgia Standard of Excellence and

Cherokee County Standards. Each day we are instructing

our students to prepare them for their future successes.

Promethean Boards, Active table, computer labs, iPads, video conference equipment, and Activotes to activate students’ prior knowledge and check understanding.

• Students will keep Math Journal.• This will have notes and graphic organizers to help them with homework/classwork.

• It will also be a good resource to study for tests.

• Homework will be given on as needed basis.

• Look on back pocket of red folder for HW assignments.

FISH BOWL QUIZZES

• There will be quizzes each week consisting of 10 questions.

• These questions are from a pool of 100 questions of what the students need to know by the end of the year.

• The quizzes themselves will not count as grades. They will count as bonus points, participation grade, etc.

• We hope to see more retention of what we are learning throughout the year.

• This is a Creekview Zone strategy.

ISTEMThis year, 5th grade will have iSTEM class time along with the regular Science instruction. This will not only focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math but will

integrate all subjects (Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies) into our STEM program.

Topics being discussed in different subjects will then be expanded and enhanced by additional STEM like activities and projects. This type of cross curricular instruction will help students put a “STEM” Spin on all subject areas.

WHAT CAN WE DO AT HOME TO HELP?

• Have your child read at least 4-5 nights a week for 20-30 minutes.

• Have your child keep their reading log in their 3 ring binder.

• Check red folder each night for HW assignments and information sent home.

• Indian Reader Book Club• Students are reading 5

books per 9 weeks over various genre.

• The chart for this can be found in your child’s binder.
