5th Annual Sale Wednesday 17th December 2014
Viewing 3.30pm - Auction 5.00pm
Location
Canes Deer Farm is located at 441 Plateau Road, Reporoa. 40 minutes drive from Rotorua or 30 minutes from Taupo. Once you are on the Broadlands Road which runs between Reporoa and Taupo, take Strathmore or East Rd and travel to the end, where they join in a Y junction and run into Plateau Road. We are 4.4km from this Y junction on the left.
Introduction Hello and welcome to the fifth annual sale at Canes Deer. The stags are coming on well. They will look a picture by sale day. We have a variety of stags and hinds for sale by a wide range of sires. No stags have been retained so they are the best we have. We are pleased to hear feedback that our stags are shift-ing well and performing on a variety of properties. Many are cutting heavy velvet as well as growing high scoring attractive trophies. The demand for both of these commodities is strong which is encouraging. I have always believed that those that have stuck with the deer industry will be rewarded and it is good to see that finally happen-ing. The yearling hinds on offer are from many of our proven hinds, many are bred by ET and have sons that have been top stags in this or previous sales or have been retained as sires at Canes Deer. All going well on sale day we will run in some of our young sires for your viewing. We hope you enjoy the sales and look forward to hosting you at Canes Deer on the 17th from 3.30pm for viewing followed by the auction from 5pm. Refreshments and a BBQ will follow the sale. Kind Regards
Kathy and Malcolm Cane

Odysseus was a good natured stag who had the attractive trophy style antler much sought after in the industry, and he is cer-tainly passing this on. We are thrilled with his offspring and anyone serious about trophy genetics should consider his blood-lines. Royal tynes are exceptionally long, very strong in bey and trey and main beam length of 45/43" Sadly no longer with us but his strong genetics will guarantee his legacy continues for many years to come .

Broadband was a magnificent Pure
Furzeland Chancellor Peel son. His
span at 7yrs of 34" and spread of 62"
are particularly wide for a Furzeland
Stag making him a great option if you
want to increase width in your herd. His
multi pointed open tops score very
well. He had a most fantastic cruisy
temperament and this trait is apparent
in all his offspring too.
Matthew is coming up 8 years old and has
certainly got the wow factor required by the
trophy industry. He scored 703 IOA at 7 yrs
despite some delayed growth on one side
due to a late button drop which had to be
manually removed. He should score even
better this year without that issue.

We used Sir Edmund as a sire because I think
he is one the best pure Warnham stags ever
produced by Stanfield’s Stud. To utilise a 50”
main beam length without the use of eastern
blood was the main attraction.

Absaloot was purchased as a replacement for
Odysseus. We saw similar aspects in his antler
with the added bonus of new blood from Black
Forest hinds on his dam line. We are expecting
him to exceed 600 IOA this year at 6 years.
We are thrilled with his sons.

Charlie Mac son 9265 was purchased from
Foveran in 2012. We liked the heavy beam and
wide aspect of his antler. He was used as a
back up stag to our AI programme that year.

Malibu is a fine example of the Odysseus/

top stags for us.

Ody II is an amazing stag. Huge in the body
with anlters to match. 45” main beams and
35” span with huge long tops @ 4 years.
This year his antler looks markedly bigger. I
really rate this guy.....hence his name.

Robstar
Robstar was discovered in the trophy mob last
year. We decided he was too good to send off at
5 yrs with a phenomenal score of 643 IOA. He
cut 6.8kg of velvet at 4 yrs. He has tremendous
mass to his antler and we look forward to his
progeny.
Infinity
Age Score

Infinity has an impressive head with huge bottom

daughters. He is a German/Warnham cross and we
look forward to seeing the results of this new mix.

We have recently purchased Norton II after
admiring him from afar for some time. His sons
have consistently been very good at Stanfield’s
annual sale and we are sure the injection of
pure Warnham genetics will have a positive
effect on our herd.
Full brother to Lot 3 in 2012 sale, sold to Grant Charteris.
Dam line is very strong with both R34 and R124 both hav-
ing produced top sale stags for us. Too early to comment
yet but brows are splitting and great bottom tynes.

This stag has a huge beam, I believe the biggest I have
bred. He has shortish brows with huge basal snags. I
estimate over 7kg velvet on him at cutting stage. There are
massive tops developing. This guy covers velvet and
trophy all in one.
