ESET... Veeam... “This is the first fair worldwide where

we are introducing the live products and we are also giving an overview of the whole product portfolio including mobile securities for android smartphones and tablets but also the business products we have in stock such as end point security solutions and fire service security solutions,” says Neo Neophytou, Managing Director, ESET Middle East.

“GITEX is the ideal platform for us to launch new technologies, given the immediate impact that they can create on both end users and IT channel players,” adds Neophytou. “The newly launched products products retain the same low system footprint ESET is known for, while offering even greater protection from new and yet undiscovered malware thanks to unique core technology improvements.”

Cybercrime in the region has increased over the years and the

offenders often use encrypted malware to avoid detection. In order to deal with these security risks, the company has conducted extensive research and extended its core detection technology in version 7 products with three new features such as Exploit Blocker, which provides protection against new and undiscovered malware; Advanced Memory Scanner, it helps to guard against malware actively attempting to evade detection by using complex techniques and the Vulnerability Shield operates on the network level and shields against abuse of known vulnerabilities.

The new version 7 products monitor and maintain the users’ social network accounts against threats, allowing the user to choose from on-demand and automatic scans for malware detection. Apart from better scanning of Facebook, it also extends protection to the users’ Twitter account.

also negated the need to purchase and deploy a general purpose WAN acceleration appliance.

According to Doug Hazelman, Vice President of Product Strategy, Veeam, the solution has been met with enthusiasm in the region so far.

“We’ve appealed to companies looking for a better way to protect their infrastructure, whether that’s on VMware or Hyper-V,” he told 60 Minutes.

Veeam’s solutions are targeted at enterprise that have virtualised environments, and as more and more IT departments go down the virtualisation route, products like Veeam’s Backup & Replication are becoming more popular.

“It’s one of our taglines – modern data protection that’s built for virtualisation. Unlike some of the legacy products, we were designed from the ground up with

virtualisation in mind, instead of just bolting it on as an afterthought,” Hazelman explained.

Naturally, the Middle East’s appetite for virtualisation has grown immensely over the past couple of years. Growth in demand for virtaulisation-centric products has been so high that Veeam has been able to expand its regional team over the past couple of years, Hazelman said.

And it seems clear that the trend for IT departments getting more virtualised is unlikely to stop, he added.

“From a virtualisation perspective, that really is the data centre of the future, and it’s kind of a stepping stone to the cloud. Businesses have data centres that are 60 percent virtualised today, and soon it’ll be more like 80 percent virtualised,” he said.

Paul Black, Director of Telecoms MEA at IDC said: “Huawei’s overall strategy for its networking business aims to create an open, simplified network architecture for business so that the switching technology responds to the fast-changing requirements of organisations.”

“Huawei has brought about a new generation of switching technologies that are smarter, more agile for switches to be easily programmed to accommodate virtually all network needs for all levels of business today and what the future holds. The unveiling of Huawei’s Agile S12700 switch series in the Middle East comes at a time where the industry is witnessing the convergence of data centres, wireless and wide area network technology.”

Bigben Interactive has signed a worldwide licence agreement with the Maison Jean-Paul Gaultier for the design and distribution of accessories for smartphones and tablets.

The worldwide commercial launch of this Jean Paul Gaultier collection of accessories,

announced at the IFA trade fair in Berlin, is to take place in October 2013 at GITEX.

GITEX preview: Ruckus Wireless

What is the main theme of your presence at GITEX this year?Ruckus Wireless aims to use the opportunity presented by GITEX 2013 to share its plans of expansion across the Middle East.

To accommodate the needs of the market with the increasing demand of smart Wi-Fi systems, two new team members for Ruckus Wireless will be based in KSA to collaborate with and to support the existing Ruckus Wireless MENA team. Our move comes as a response to market demand in the region, with IT spending being projected to amount to $192.9 billion USD for the Middle East alone in 2013.

We are also planning to use this networking platform that GITEX

provides to highlight the success that has been achieved through the provision of secure wireless solutions with our ‘Secure HotSpots” technology.

Ruckus Wireless has enabled service providers to achieve outstanding competitive advantage and capability in the market by supporting them to reach superior security levels through ‘Secure HotSpots’.

Our company forecasts that public hotspots will rise by 350% by 2015 and the number of private hotspots is expected to hit over 640 million. Businesses as well as individual users need to protect themselves from being vulnerable to attacks and confidentiality breaches. We believe Ruckus Wireless has developed the best technology to support them in doing so.

Are you releasing/launching anything new at GITEX 2013? If so, what?Ruckus Wireless has released a great variety of new products and solutions recently and continues to search for opportunities to improve the systems in place for the industry. We will present the latest developments at GITEX 2013 and share some of our projections for the future in terms of the next step for Smart Wi-Fi technology.

How is your company presenting itself at GITEX this year to differentiate it from competitors? Our customers are well aware of the top end quality of Ruckus Wireless’s products and solutions and we will demonstrate our commitment to the region and to our channel partners by participating at the GITEX 2013 event. As we have already established our presence in the market as leaders in the Wi-Fi space, we will be able to differentiate ourselves from competitors with the brand equity we have strengthened over the years. What are the key trends influencing your approach to GITEX 2013 and the offerings you are pushing? With the continuous increase of smartphone and tablet usage in the region, the focus will be on Ruckus Wireless’s capabilities to meet the demand of its market segment by providing the fastest, most flexible and most secure network solutions to all target segments: carriers, enterprises, SMB and the end consumers.

Other key trends in the region revolve around the concept of “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD), and enterprise mobility. ‘Enterprise Mobility’ is the concept by which companies are making use of wireless networks and mobile devices to conduct their business, whereas BYOD allows employees to use their personal devices within a working environment.

These trends are pushing in the Middle East and they have presented the opportunity for us, at Ruckus Wireless, to demonstrate our ability to provide top solutions to support them.

How have you seen the Middle East respond to those trends in question, and how did you think that will change over the next year? The Middle East is adopting these trends at an incredibly fast pace and that will only increase over the next period when the right technology becomes available to more and more consumers.

For example, the ICT market intelligence firm announced this September that tablet shipments for the quarter were up 208 per cent from 2012, reaching a total of 2.79 million units, exceeding the region’s portable PC market.

Mobile usage has also significantly increased in popularity throughout the Middle East, with the UAE posting the highest penetration in the region at 74 per cent, according to a recent study by Google.

For us at Ruckus Wireless that means an increased demand in our Smart Wi-Fi products and solutions.
