CentralAuthentication
Workgroup Update
The Business Problem
• Hotels lack the ability to efficiently manage Wi-Fi across disparate networks and deliver a consistent guest Wi-Fi experience across multiple properties, providers, and devices.
• The result? Customer disloyalty, complex support requirements, and inability for brands to leverage Wi-Fi for long-term business needs.
What is Central Authentication?
• Technology that enables hotels to securely grant guests access to the Wi-Fi network from one centralized point by verifying login credentials.
• Centralized• Secure• Scalable

What We’ve Learned
• Hoteliers want to engage with the “non-sleeping” guest• Hotspot 2.0R2 is not yet widespread• There are two flavors of CA:
1. Hotspot 2.o (Passpoint)2. Legacy
• There is not a technology gap… solutions exist.
Deliverable #1: Business Considerations• Marketing/Branding• Reduced support load• Roaming• Negating bad reviews coming from *not* doing CA
Deliverable #2: Security Considerations• Encrypted Wi-Fi• PII
Deliverable #3: Core Documentation
• Technical• Key criteria that can be used to evaluate a Central
Authentication solution
• Business Value • Allow advocates to adequately describe the business value and
benefits of a CA solution.
