“You have received a Spirit of adoption, through which

we cry, Abba, Father.”

Dear. St. Joseph Parishioners,

While you are taking the time this summer to make use of every opportunity to be with your family and friends to bond and spend a quality time together, I would like to remind you about some up-coming programs and projects for the parish that I will be leading this year 2019-2020. Please make note and save the dates in your calendar, especially the parish events that build up our parish community and our relationship with one another. 1st Pacific Islander Festival 2019: God the Father Feast. Being one of the most diverse parish in the Archdiocese, there are many gifts and cultural diversities that our parish truly celebrate. Aside from a good number of Hispanic, Vietnamese, American and Filipino population present in our parish, we all have the Micronesia community who have been with us for the longest time. They are very supportive workers and generous contributors to the parish projects and programs. And this year, I’m helping them to make their dream come true as they would like to do something very special us – to host a festival that will bring our community together as one family and to introduce to us the richness of their cultural tradition, food, music, and heritage. This festival is in honor of God the Father, the First Person in the Holy Trinity. It will be a day of fellowship, enjoyment, music, and acquaintance. Prior to the main event, there will be an octave Nove-na (eight evenings of praying the novena to the God the Father), starting July 28 to August 3 at 6:30 pm, East room of the parish rectory. This 1st Pacific Islander festival will be on August 4, which will begin at 12:00 noon Mass, and after the Mass, reception follows from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the parish gymnasium, where they will provide music entertainment and serve us delicious food. Let us come, and join the Micronesia community in this festivity as they welcome us into their home and culture. 1st Summer Bonanza Update. With so much joy, I would like to personally express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and generosity in helping me realize the two projects I orga-nized for our parish – 1st International Taste (February 23, 2019) and 1st Summer Bonanza (June 1, 2019). The Summer Bonanza fundraising was quite a success and it was able to raise a substantial amount of $5,383 (before expenses) and the amount of total expenses was $803.25. Thus, the total amount of income after expenses was $4,605 which we will use to fund the four small projects in the parish (upgrading of narthex area, re-plating of chalices and ciboria, upgrading of the interior part of the confession rooms, and replacement of communion rail cloth). The donated items as game prizes was amounted to almost $4,000. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the overwhelming support and generosity you showed to this fund raising. I hope you will support again next year’s event. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) 2019-2020. This year, I will be leading the RCIA Program, which will be a fulltime work. The program will start officially on October 9, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Parish Center. It will be every Wednesday, and therefore it means that the group will meet on a regular basis for the class sessions throughout the year. This pro-gram is offered most especially for those who are seeking to enter into the full communion with the Catholic Church through baptism and those who express a profound desire to come to know the Catholic faith and are willing to go through a faith formation program in the context of prayer and study. The goal of this RCIA program is for the candidates to come to know Jesus, under-stand his teachings and the Church, and receive baptism at Easter. If you are interested, please contact me (971 294 8774) or the parish office (503 581 1623) as soon as possible. Marriage Preparation Program 2019-2020. This year, I will also be heading the Marriage Prepa-ration Program, given throughout the year. This program is offered for those are seeking marriage in the Catholic Church. The couples are given series of class sessions grounded in the light of the Church’s teachings on matrimony, in order to help them be prepared to enter into a married life and to be effective spouses to one another and parents to the future children. There will be in the month of October 2019 and in the month of March 2020. It is held on Saturdays from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the East room of the parish rectory. For those interested to avail this pro-gram, please contact me (971 294 8774) or the parish office (503 581 1623).

Other Community-Building Events. Please also save the dates on your calendar with regard to the new project that I will be leading this year and as a continuation of the projects I started: • 1st Harvest Festival @ St. Joseph 2019 - November 16, 2019, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, Parish Gymnasium

• 2nd International Taste @ St. Joseph 2020 - February 15, 2020, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, Parish Gymnasium 2nd Summer Bonanza @ St. Joseph 2020 - June 13, 2020, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, parish Gym-nasium As you all have helped in the past, please continue to participate and help in building up our par-ish community through some events that will gather us as one family of faith. Rest assured that as you continue to enjoy the summer season, you are all in my prayers, hoping for your safety and fun-filled time with your loved ones.

God bless. Fr. Pao

Information for St. Joseph Parish

Laudato-Si #61There are regions now at high risk and, aside from all doomsday predictions, the present world system is certainly unsustainable from a number of points of view, for we have stopped thinking about the goals of human activity. “If we scan the regions of our planet, we immedi-ately see that humanity has disappointed God’s expectations”.35
