High School Philosophy

L-MHS is a comprehensive high school. Students are encouraged to take a wide

variety of course work, get involved in athletics, fine arts, and clubs/organizations.

The high school task is to provide a well-rounded set of tools for each student…not to produce “specialists”.

The changing workplace, the changing economy, the need for lifelong learning require this approach.

Course: Design:Art Basics/Art FundamentalsCourse #: ART110Grade Level: 9-12 Credits: 5 Length: 1 quarter Format: BlockPrerequisite: None

Considerations: This course is a basic design class which is required for all students before they take any of the art classes. Sections of ART110U for 11th and 12th graders only. 11th and 12th may sign up for either ART110 or ART110U.

Course Description: This course is designed around the seven elements and principles of art. Projects will give students a better understanding of these art elements and principles through direct application. Students will develop art skills through the use of a variety of mediums.

Skills Needed to be Successful:Love of art and making thingsAbility to listen to and follow directionsProductive work ethic

Course Description: Students will draw from both life and photographic images. Emphasis will be placed on tone, line, value, and proportion. Students will also learn linear perspective drawing. The works of other artists, past and present, will be studied.

Registration Process Step one: The high school counselors will be going to the

middle schools to hand out and to go over the registration materials.

If you do not currently attend a LM middle school, please contact Greg Hall or Laura Gallo for registration information

Step two: The students will take the material home and work with their parents on selecting courses that they want to take for the following school year.

Step three: Fill out the course request sheet.

Step four: The students will register on-line using their Powerschool page (from home or at school if they do not have internet access) and the “window” is open from Jan. 25th at 7:00 PM and it ends on Feb. 5th at 3:00 PM.

Step five: Turn in the signed (Parent & Student) course request sheet to middle school guidance office.
