LIBERTY The condition of being free from restriction or control. 4. THE PATRIOT ACT A U.S. Law signed by Bush on October 26,2011. It was enacted in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which gave law-enforcement officials greater ability to tap telephones and track Internet users; also called [ The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 ]. The Patriot Act works on the theory that in the face of terrorist threats, Americans must balance freedom with security. The balancing act only works if the measures taken to increase security actually accomplish that goal. There hasnt been a terrorist attack since then due to increased airport security, heightened awareness on the part of all Americans or the diversion of terrorist resources to conflicts in the Middle East and the use of roving wiretaps, expanded surveillance authorization, delayed-notification searches and interagency information sharing as crucial to the anti-terrorist mission. 5. The Congress spent very little time reading and debating it. Less than 48 hours passed between the presentation of the bills final wording and the law passing in both houses of Congress. There are fears that the Patriot Act reduces or removes many of the civil liberties enjoyed in the United States and guaranteed by the Constitution. Critics also charge that the Patriot Act unfairly expands the powers of the executive branch and strips away many crucial checks and balances. 6. CONCLUSION Home is a place where you feel secure and safe because you know everyone and everything. The terrorist attack in NY 9/11 took away all the security and safety that people felt. When the government made the Patriot Act so it wouldnt happen again made many people feel like their liberty and privacy was being taken away.Everyone is being vigilated and the terrorist are now some dead others captured. USA attacked Iraq and Afghanistan in response because some of the terrorists where from there and rumors. 7.
