Class of 2024 Graduation Requirements

24 Total Credits:

4 credits Language Arts with one year either:◦ AP (Advanced Placement), or

◦ CIHS (College in the High School)

3.5 credits social studies & Washington State History met

3 credits math + 1 for college

3 credits science + 1 for college

2 credits World Language (+1 for college - same language)*

1.0 Occupational Ed / Career Connected Learning

2.0 Art (2 classes in same category for many California colleges)*

1.5 PE or waivers

0.5 Health

60 hours service learning - For incoming 9th Graders, only eligible to bring in 15 hours the summer prior to your freshman year

Pass Math, ELA and Science state tests

*Can waive 1.0 Art credit & World Language for Personalized Pathway

Ways to meet PE Requirement

1. Take PE classes at RHS

2. Waivers (Does not provide credit toward graduation)

• Waver definition

• Directed Athletics @RHS – one season = one waiver

• Sport/Activity outside of RHS – Requires a performance or competitive aspect to it

• Log 80 hours on PE log w/ signature + submit PE waiver form = one waiver per semester

• Academic waiver = full schedule of college prep/graduation requirements beginning S2 of 11th

grade–see counselor for details junior year

If you are a current 8th grade student in Seattle Public Schools…

Grab a laptop or desktop computer & login.

(You can register via phone or tablet, but the interface is not built for a smaller screen, and could lead to technical difficulty)

Open The Source using your student login.

Do not use your parent / guardian login as the registration option will not be available.

Open the “Incoming 9th Graders” page on the Roosevelt High School website. Review the Welcome Letter, Instructions, Course List, and Option Sheet.

Review course selections and electives with your parent or guardian. Once the registration window closes, you will not be able to make changes to your course requests until we return to school for the 2020/2021 school year.

Please print and fill out the Course Option sheet. Once complete, please scan and send to Counseling SecretaryMs. O’Connor at [email protected].

Let’s look at your registration papers & options

LA: Intro Lit Comp 9A/9B blocked w/Social Studies

Social Studies: World History 1/2 blocked w/LA

Math Typical progression: Algebra 1A/1B, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus... etc.. Current SPS students will have this automatically added. Non-SPS students will need to select the correct course using the Course Description Book & current teacher's recommendation

Science: Physics A/Chemistry A *SPS HCC students please refer to course list for alternate science options

World Language: Begin World Language 1 or move on to next level for ASL, French, Latin, Japanese or Spanish. More on this in a minute!

Plan for 1 semester Health & 1 semester PE (or other elective)

Review the course descriptions in the course catalog prior to selecting your courses

You need to select four alternate electives in addition to your primary elective choices

Save/print your course options once you’ve finished registering online

Current SPS students: Online Registration Runs from April 21th until May 1st.

Non-SPS Students: Submit course selections via alternate methods covered on slide 5

Frequently Asked QuestionsIf coming from a private school: All students coming from a private school must take Physics A/Chemistry A no matter the science level taken at the private school. This requirement is set at the district level.

Current SPS Source password assistance: If you can’t remember your Source password, please get in touch with your middle schools librarian to get your password reset.

World Language: One year of middle school = ½ year in high school.◦ 1 year of World Language in middle school? Sign up for level 1

◦ 2 years of World Language in middle school? Sign up for level 2

◦ 3 years of World Language in middle school? Sign up for level 2

◦ 4 years of World Language in middle school (or elementary)? Sign up for level 3

Health: Health is offered all 4 years at Roosevelt though we recommend taking this your freshman year if your schedule allows.

How to get involved at Roosevelt High School

Join a Club: All current clubs at Roosevelt can be found at http://clubsofroosevelt.weebly.com/.

Play a Sport: Athletics offered at Roosevelt, as well as all required paperwork, eligibility, and contact information can be found at https://roosevelths.seattleschools.org/student_activities/athletics.

Lunch/Flex Block: This extended time is offered to get lunch and also allows a way for you to connect with friends and clubs. Teachers also offer office hours throughout the week and this is a great time to connect with them on assignments and projects.
