REMEMBER: Lay the Filon over-roof system in thesame direction as the original roof.

A. You should have on site sufficient PROFIX starter spacersas the number of purlins on the contract. Commenceby fixing a PROFIX starter on each purlin using a tem-porary fix. PROFIX spacers are designed to cover theexisting fixing and locate centrally over the purlin.

B. Lay and join PROFIX spacers to PROFIX starters. Onsteeper pitch roofs (above 15˚) you will find it easier tostitch the PROFIX spacer to the old roof using a TECstitcher, or similar, ensuring correct alignment with thepurlin below.

C. The PROFIX spacers have a notch to locate over sidelaps of existing sheets. The PROFIX spacers will pro-trude to locate the next PROFIX spacer.

D. The application of a thick wallpaper paste to the areawhere the Profix spacers sit will help encapsulate anydust when the roof fixings penetrate the asbestossheeting.

If insulation is to be included there are three systems.

A. Quilt fibreglass up to 100mm deep to be usedwith a profix 60 spacer.

B. Quilt fibreglass up to 50mm deep to be used witha profix 25 spacer.

C. Jablite insulation, no profix spacers are required.

D. Kontrol Multi-foil or similar can be used toreduce U-values with either the profix 25 orprofix 60 spacers.

When the sheet is laid the PROFIX will extend pastthe end of the sheet to continue the line across.

Labour Safety• Do not walk on fragile roof sheets. If access is

required across the roof area appropriate stagingshould be used so as to comply to Work to theHealth & Safety Executive Guidance Notes,HS(G)33: Safety in Roof Works.

• Old asbestos cement sheets are classified asfragile and unpredictable. Although standard Filonover-roofing will provide additional strength youshould always treat the roof as fragile afterwards.

• Filon can supply GRP sheets designed for extrastrength i.e. DR or Supersafe. (Supersafe willachieve a non fragile roof for the life of the roof.)

• To meet wind loading requirements it may be necessary to use stronger GRP sheets at theverges or eaves. Contact our technical department for advice.

Transport and Storage• Store sheets on flat, clean, level battens at

1.5m centres.

• Stacks should not exceed 1m in height and mustnot overhang at ends.

• Protect against theft and from being blown away.

• ALWAYS protect sheets stored in the open withopaque waterproof covers – translucent rooflights will discolor if water penetrates the pack of sheets.
