A Christ-Centered School of Excellence… Leading the Way Northside Christian School’s Plan for Advancement: 2013-2019
A Word from the Head of School—Dr. Donald C. James…
The Ten Commandments found in Exodus 20 sets the stage for man defining his relationship with God
and amongst men. This theme continues within the context of the family as relationship and
responsibilities are found in Deuteronomy 6 of the Old Testament where God instructs the parents of
Israel with these words, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and
with all your strength.” (vs. 5) and “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of
them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise
up.” (vs. 7). Woven throughout the pages of the Bible (Deut. 11, Psalm 78 & Ephesians 6) is the importance of God
and His Word being man’s authority for godly living and ultimately, godly success (Joshua 1:8).
The school’s Mission reflects these biblical principles as Northside Christian aims to partner with families in striving
for a Christ-centered school of excellence. The Mission fuels the school’s Vision which is manifested in five key
pillars that emphasize five important outcomes regarding: Christ, Personnel, Extra Curricular, Facilities, and
Stewardship.
As you review the school’s history and see God’s blessings from the past, may each person be encouraged to
advance the cause of Christ through the outreach of NCS and this Leading the Way Plan for Advancement.

A Word from the School Board Chair—Dr. John Duff…
Northside Christian School (NCS) has been an important part of our community for over 40 years.
Many students and their families have benefited from the excellent academic and co-curricular
programs offered by the school. Northside graduates have gone on to success in many fields of
endeavor. The school continues to be faithful to its mission of partnering with families to teach,
develop, and mentor students in the context of Christian love.
As we look to the future, Leading the Way details the steps that the Faculty, Staff, Board, and others have identified
as opportunities to improve the school and move it forward. This comprehensive plan covers many areas ranging
from facilities to spiritual development. The Board is grateful to the dedicated leaders, faculty, and staff for their
commitment to excellence. The future of NCS is bright. Thank you for being a part of it.
A Word from the Senior Pastor of Northside Baptist Church—Rev. Tim Kroll…
Northside Baptist Church loves Northside Christian School and the ministry to so many students and
families that it has had over the years and will have in the years to come. We are grateful for each
family who, in partnership with our School, entrusts us with the education and formation of their child.
We love that every student and their families have an opportunity:
To see Jesus—to really see Him for who He is
To follow Jesus—to give their lives to Him and accept His life for them
To serve with Jesus—to take up and take part in His ministry
To grow in Jesus—to imitate His life and see His love continue through them
As a part of Leading the Way, we love the foundation that students are given for scholarship and citizenship, for
sports and Fine Arts, for family and friends, for life and eternity. May they move from Northside, into the future, as
the light of the world that Jesus wants and will enable them to be.

History
On September 7th
, 1971, Northside Christian School opened its doors with 236 students, grades K- 9. In 1975, land was purchased on
62nd Avenue for the purpose of building a new upper school. This new upper school opened in 1979 on the 62nd Avenue. In 1979,
Northside Christian School celebrated a very important milestone when it became accredited by the Florida Association of Christian
Schools.
During the seventies, extra-curricular events became significant to NCS. The Fighting Mustang Band performed in its inaugural
marching competition in 1974, our first full-scale musical, “Camelot” took the stage in 1977, and concerts and competitions
showcased a thriving Fine Arts program providing numerous opportunities for Northside families to see their children perform.
During this same era, Northside’s talented athletic teams began to compete including basketball, football, volleyball, baseball, softball,
golf, track, tennis, soccer, cross-country, and cheerleading.
The eighties saw the school mature in its program offerings and continued steady enrollment. It was during this decade that the new
elementary school was launched on the 62nd
Avenue campus.
Another major milestone was reached when the high school program became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools (SACS) and the K-12 program received accreditation by the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) in the
nineties. As the school entered the new millennium, many hours of volunteer labor allowed both campuses to be fully wired for new
technology infrastructure. This allowed the campus to add a dedicated internet connection, the school’s first web site, and two
additional computers labs.
In 2004, Northside moved its Kindergarten program and in 2010, its Preschool from the Northside Baptist Church facility to one new
shared school campus. The High School PRAXIS program for students with different learning styles was created in 2005. Northside
Baptist Church maintains a positive relationship with the school’s leadership, empowering the Head of School to grow the school and
its programs.
Page 6
Mission Statement
Northside Christian School’s mission states: “Northside Christian School, in partnership with families, exists to equip students to reach their God-
given potential through outstanding academic and extra-curricular programs within a Christ-centered environment.”
1. “Northside Christian School, in partnership with families…” The Bible is clear that the responsibility of a child’s well-being, including
his or her education belongs to the parents (Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 22:6, Psalm 78:4). The Bible also provides examples of how the
parents in their wisdom shared their parental responsibilities with others whom they trusted and in whom they believed their child would
be positively influenced by. Hannah committing her son, Samuel, to Eli the priest at the Temple in I Samuel 2:11 is a prime example. A
partnership is a give and take proposition, yet still a mutual commitment of trust between all parties in order to obtain the maximum
benefit. In a school setting, this trust is critical for teaching effectively. Mutual communication, support and encouragement are the
essential qualities for a successful partnership.
2. “…exists to equip students…” A casual approach to teaching and training young people will not yield maximum Christ-like fruit or
reveal a student's full potential. In fact, we are admonished to do exactly the opposite by equipping and training students continuously
(Deuteronomy 6:6-7). Christian educators must first be godly, then called to teach, then qualified, and finally skilled in their ability to
passionately train and prepare students to be successful and ultimately accomplish their life goals as a part of God’s plans for them.
3. “…to reach their God-given potential...” Psalm 139:13-16 tells us that it is God who creates each individual “fearfully and wonderfully”
to be unique and special. He then sets a plan of “future and hope” (Jeremiah 29:11) before each one to strive toward. The equipping
process is such that the aim is to enable each student to reach or advance (Philippians 4:13) his or her utmost for Christ. The “reach” is
challenging and daunting at times, but the outcome will be high achievement and satisfaction of a job well done (I Cor.9:24, Phil. 3:13-14).
4. “…through outstanding academic(s)…” NCS offers numerous academic opportunities that are initiated in the Preschool. It is here where
individual discovery, curiosity and cooperative learning of biblical core values begin. The elementary grades deliver an intentional and
effective approach to a rigorous phonetic/reading and math foundation that encourages and challenges each student to develop the
necessary tools to be life-long learners (Philippians 4:13). A united effort by parents, teachers and students results in academic success.
Likewise, middle and high school students are taught to be responsible, think critically and be godly leaders amongst their peers and in
their community. This entails cultivating an appetite for learning and leading. As this develops, students desire greater challenges to
exercise the abilities that God has given them to reach their academic aspirations (I Corinthians 9:24, Philippians 3:13-14).
“…and extra-curricular programs…” Extra-curricular opportunities for other institutions may be considered an add-on, but at NCS they
are the WOW factors. From Preschool through grade 12, students have the opportunity to participate and excel in a wide selection of
activities. These activities are not “extra”, but the norm. These include classes in music (piano, voice and other individual instruments),
computer instruction, science enrichment, weekly chapels, Spanish, and art lessons. Our Fine Arts department also provides students with
the chance to participate in award-winning stage productions, choir festivals, state marching band competitions and many concerts
Page 7
throughout the year. Mustang sports feature a well-rounded athletic program comprised of many different sports. There are also, mission
trips, banquets and a host of other life- impacting activities.
5. “…within a Christ-centered environment.” This is the foundation for the word “Christian” in the school’s name. Colossians 2:6-7
reminds individuals of their tremendous obligation and responsibility to put off worldly things and to put on Christ (Ephesians 4) in their
daily affairs and to be faithful in integrating the Word of God into every subject matter and element of life. “As you therefore have
received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught,
abounding in it with thanksgiving.”
Leading the Way
Northside Christian School will be an example of a “light” to a seeking community. Matthew 5:14 proclaims, “You are the light of the world. A
town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” The Proverbs writer in 9:1 states, “Wisdom has built her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars
(referring to God’s power and wisdom). NCS will boldly lead the way as a beacon of light focused on fulfilling the following Vision Pillars:
VISION PILLAR I
NCS will be a faithful light in the community that proclaims Christ, His message of salvation for the lost, and encourages a pattern of living that is
pleasing to the Lord. (Matthew 5:14-16)
VISION PILLAR II
NCS will be a leader in Christian Education with outstanding faculty and academics, measurable outcomes, advanced technological opportunities,
and effective communication. (Colossians 3:23-24)
VISION PILLAR III
NCS will excel in setting a high standard for training and accomplishments in the Fine Arts and Athletics to reach the highest levels of
performance while exhibiting humility. (Philippians 4:13, I Timothy 4:8)
VISION PILLAR IV
NCS will improve its facilities and pursue the necessary resources to accomplish the school’s advancement goals. (I Corinthians 14:40) VISION PILLAR V
NCS will be good stewards with its fiscal resources, increase enrollment and student scholarship opportunities, enhance employee benefits, and
prepare for future needs. (Luke 6:38, I Timothy 5:18)
