Eva Collins is an HR Administrator at WCSCU. Last week Eva met with Heather Jenkins, the HR Manager, to discuss setting up a Career, Health and Wellness area on The Buzz Intranet.

Welcome to the BuzzThe intranet site for West Coast Savings Credit Union

Eva brings up The Buzz to build the new sub-site for the intranethttp://blogs.intranetconnections.com

Building the Sub-Site

Eva begins by entering the Buzz admin site and clicks to create a new Department Site, giving it the name of “Career, Health and Wellness”


Securing the Sub-Site

Eva secures the new sub-site so end users won’t be able to see it until Heather has signed-off on it.


Creating the Navigation Menu• Eva uses the

navigation tool from the Application Toolbox– Eva selects

applications that will be added as the sub-site navigation. One click and each application is created in seconds


Employee Services

Eva adds a documents application for “Employee Services” to store policies, procedures, and forms for the credit union’s medical, dental, 401K plans


Job Center

Next she selects a dedicated Jobs application for HR to post new job opportunities within the organization and for employees to apply with their online resumes


Career Workshops

Eva adds a Training and Registration system that will allow employees to sign up for career development courses


Community Events


• Community Events will be the site’s Calendar tool– Shows internal and

external upcoming community events

– Open publishing so end users can add their own events

News & Views

The Career, Health & Wellness site needs a News application for announcements and bulletins pertaining to career development and health. Eva opens up publishing so that all users can contribute to News & Views


Earthquake Safety

Eva adds a Blog to the site that will focus on safety procedures and earthquake preparedness for all the CU branches


Health & Wellness

A Knowledge Centre for FAQ and health and wellness tips. End users can contribute any tips or articles they find.


Healthy Recipes

An area for employees to share their healthy recipes with the rest of the organization


Mash-up of Information

• Eva adds a widget to the home page that shows a mash-up of the latest content published to each of the site’s applications– Eva sets the widget listing to show the top 6 advertised items

from the various applicationshttp://blogs.intranetconnections.com

Calendar Feed• Heather wants to be able to see

all the upcoming month’s events from the site’s home page– Eva pulls in a feed from the

Community Events Calendar and chooses the mini-calendar format

– She places the mini-calendar below the navigation menu

– The widget automatically rotates every month, showing new events as they are added


Content Feeds

• Eva adds a content feed from the Employee Services area– It automatically pulls the latest

documents and forms that are added to the application

– Content does not need to be advertised to be displayed


External RSS Feed & Links

• Eva pulls in an RSS feed from a leading industry blog– This will keep employees up to

date with thought leaders in the credit union sector

• Eva also builds a content box with links to other popular credit union blogs and resources


Message Boxes• Eva adds two message

boxes to the home page– One to announce the

goal of the Careers, Health and Wellness site

– The other to display herself as the manager of the site in case employees want to contact her with questions or feedback


Instant Messaging

“Not bad for one afternoon of work” thinks Eva as she uses chat to send Heather a link to the new Careers, Health and Wellness site she created for the Buzz.
