Henry Hill Visitor Center: The park offers a wide array of activities, scenic vistas, historic sites and walking trails. Pick up a park brochure, map, trail guide and check out the daily schedule of interpretive programs. Restrooms and water fountains are available.

Park Orientation Film: “Manassas: End of Innocence.” This 45-minute film covers both the First and Second Battles of Manassas. The film shows daily, every hour on the hour starting at 9 a.m. with the last show at 4 p.m. The program is close-captioned and hearing assisted devices are available upon request.

Museum Exhibits: Artifacts and exhibits pertaining to the First Battle of Manassas are displayed in the Visitor Center museum. Exhibits include audio-visual displays and a fiber-optic battle map presentation that describes troop movements during the battle. Audio portions are close-captioned.

Bookstore: Just off the main lobby of the Visitor Center is the park bookstore. Operated by Eastern National, the store offers a wide variety of books related to the American Civil War. Browse through a selection of souvenir items, prints, multi-media, and theme-related merchandise. Audio CD driving tours and trail guides are available.

First Manassas Battlefield: A Walking TourThe critical fighting at First Manassas (Bull Run) centered on Henry Hill. A self-guiding loop trail with interpretive signs tells the story of the battle. The trail begins behind the Visitor Center, leads past Ricketts’s Battery of Union artillery, and continues to the rebuilt Henry House. In the yard of the 1870 house is the grave of Judith Carter Henry, who was mortally wounded by artillery fire and the only civilian killed during the first battle. Behind the house is an 1865 monument erected byUnion soldiers in “Memory of the Patriots who fell at Bull Run.”

Did You Know?

Only one civilian was killed during the First Battle of Manassas. Judith Carter Henry, an 85 year old bed-ridden widow, was mortally wounded by Union artillery fire. She is buried in a small family cemetery located on Henry Hill.NPS Photo
