CHILDREN IN ACTION leader needed for Wednes-day nights from 6:15 -7:00 pm. This time is shared with Children’s Choir. Please contact Joyce Lewis or Jeanine Long.

Those who were present for worship this past Sunday heard me read the resignation of Rev. Cam Coburn as Associate Pastor to Youth and Children. Cam has served in that position for eleven years and has been an asset to the First Baptist family as he has been present in the lives of so many youth, children and their families during that time. We give thanks that God opened the door to bring Cam to First Baptist and wish him, Lori and Christopher God’s blessings as they begin a new chapter in their lives.

Let me ask the question for you . . “Now what’s going to Happen?” As we will be journeying through this important time of transition, it calls upon many to become engaged in the process!

Let me outline what I see as our next course of action: Time to express our appreciation to Cam for his ministry

at FBC. The Personnel Team, with Youth & Children’s teams will

begin the process of securing a person to serve during the interim.

A joint meeting with the Children & Youth leadership teams facilitated by the pastor.

We have a GREAT group of young people and children! Obviously everyone will want this process to move rapidly however, that’s something no one can promise – God moves based on His own timetable!

But . . . YOU can start NOW by praying that God will lead during this transition and guide us to the individual HE would have guide our Youth & Children and their families!!! Rick

Children’s choir will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 in the choir room at 6:30 PM. This year we will be presenting “THE INN CROWD” musical for the children’s Christmas Cantata. The performance will be on Sunday, December 6 during the 11:00 AM service. There are plenty of parts for everyone. The music and CD’s will be ready to pass out at the first rehearsal. Make plans to be apart of the Children’s Choir this year.

Dear Friends:

Summer is winding down, and signs tell us that a changing of seasons is near. It reminds me of my favorite passage of scripture, Ecclesiastes Chapter 3...to everything there is a time and season. I truly believe it is important for all to recognize, understand and accept when their season is complete.

I have been in a long discernment process for some time as to signs signifying when my season serving First Baptist Church would be complete. After a long struggle with the discernment process, I have decided it is time to close this chapter of my journey. With this being said, I have submitted my resignation to the personnel committee as Associate Pastor to Youth and Children. This is effective September 30. With the unused vacation leave for the year being taken, my last Sunday at First Baptist Church will be Sunday, September 13. Please be assured that this was one of the most difficult decisions for me, as over 25% of my lifespan has been here with the youth/children of this church and community. The closing of this chapter will enable me to balance a healthier lifestyle, spend more well deserved time with my family and pursue other ministry opportunities after a sabbatical that allows me to complete graduate school. I want you to know that you have a very capable and hardworking youth committee who has a solid plan in place for the interim transition. I am proud of the work we have accomplished, and will reflect on this during my last newsletter article at the end of next month. 40 youth begin this school year on the roster at FBC, and I believe it to be the most rewarding and vital ministry at FBC. Most of all, I want to thank each of you for being such a wonderful church family to my family and I during my 11 and a half years here. I will always be thankful for your support, and am richly blessed to call you friends. I am even more grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the lives of your youth and children. It will be my privilege to fondly recall their lives as FBC youth and children as they continue to grow and prosper. May God add his richest blessings to you all. Cam

Henry D. Johnson Memorial Fund

My mother was fond of saying, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” At times we allow ourselves to become victim of thinking that we can not engage in something or accomplish something because of some limitation, either real or imagined. In comments made by our pastor at the recent church conference, he reminded us that just because we are currently behind in our giving, we can not stop reaching out to meet the needs of our church members and the community. The Henry D. Johnson Memorial Fund committee wants all church committees to know that there are some restricted funds that can be used to help you in missions activities. Let’s suppose that your committee desires to complete a mission activity and you have some funding, however, not enough to complete the project. You may state your mission goals and funding needs in a simple written statement to the First Baptist Church Trustees. The Trustees will review your project, if it is approved, then they may seek funding assistance from the HDJ Memorial Fund restricted funds. You may need/want more information. Please feel free to talk to any member of the Henry Johnson Memorial Fund Committee. They are Charles Long, Jim Hopf, Joyce Lewis, Bobby L. Evans, Bill Flowers, Larry King, and Amy Johnson. Remember, “where there is a will, there is a way.” Charles Long, Chairman
