As you may know, each year, we extend an invitation to our residents and family members to participate in the Belmont Village Satisfaction Survey. The information we receive from the survey results provides for vital feedback and helps to guide the management team in future decision making and planning. It gives me great pleasure to share with you some of the highlights from the survey. Of the residents who responded to the survey in 2015, 100% of them stated that their healthcare needs are being met. 100% of the residents surveyed said they would recommend Belmont Village as a good place to live. 95.8% said they are treated with respect by the staff. 95.8% stated that Belmont Village provides them with the security they want. It is also great to know that of the residents surveyed, 95.7% felt the dining room service team is attentive to their needs. Family member responses were very impressive as well. 98.1% of the family members who responded stated that they were very satisfied and would recommend Belmont Village as a good place to live. Of the family members who responded, 100% stated they feel their relative is treated with respect by the staff. Additionally, 100% stated the meals look appetizing and taste good. These are overwhelmingly positive responses and ones which we are extremely proud to share. In October 2015, the annual Customer Service Satisfaction Survey containing 24 questions was disseminated to all Belmont Village residents and family members. The feedback we receive from the surveys is critical to our ongoing operations. We use this information to help us determine future services and programs at our community. On behalf of the entire team at Geneva Road, thank you for taking the time to complete these surveys and to answer the questions candidly. I am pleased knowing that our residents and family members feel so favorably about our community. I always remind my Belmont team of one of my prevailing mantras, “If everything you do is in the name of great customer service, you will always be doing the right thing!” It pleases me tremendously to know that the Belmont team is meeting and exceeding your satisfaction expectations. HypothyroidismHypothyroidism—also called

underactive thyroid—is the mostcommon thyroid disorder. Ithappens when your thyroid glanddoesn’t produce enough thyroidhormone, which is essentialbecause thyroid hormone helpsregulate important bodyprocesses, such as yourmetabolism. But with low thyroidfunction, these body processesslow down.

The prevalence of thyroiddisorders increases with age andnumerous morphological andphysiological changes of thethyroid gland during the processof aging are well-known. It is to bestressed that the clinical course ofthyroid diseases in the elderlydiffers essentially from thatobserved in younger individuals,because symptoms are moresubtle and are often attributed tonormal aging.

Hypothyroidism symptomsusually develop incredibly slowly;it can take years for them to showup. Also, some symptoms mimicsymptoms of other diseases, suchas fibromyalgia and rheumatoidarthritis.

Key hypothyroidism symptomsinclude constipation, depression,and fatigue. Pale, dry skin;

sensitivity to cold; joint pain;elevated cholesterol levels; brittlefingernails and hair; andunexplained weight gain, memoryproblems, loss of appetite, areother common symptoms.

Doctors use blood tests todiagnose hypothyroidism,including tests to measure theamount of thyroid-stimulatinghormone (TSH) and free thyroidhormone levels in your body.

Once diagnosed withhypothyroidism, you’ll need totake medication (thyroidhormone replacement) to replaceyour missing thyroid hormone.

You can live a full, normal lifeif you continue to take yourmedicine to controlhypothyroidism. A healthylifestyle—incorporating nutritiousfoods and moderate exercise—canalso help you better manage yourhypothyroidism.
