Assisted Living Week is an opportunity to celebrate our staff, our residents and our community! So if you see any staff doing a good job, please let them know. Lastly, I would like to update you all on the renovations being done in our community. The first floor is getting new floors, a new paint job and also new bathrooms. The 2nd floor Wellness Center will be moved to the third floor with a bigger space to accommodate the residents. The computer center on the 1st floor is moving up on the second floor by the Activities Program Coordinators’ office, which was previously the Wellness Center. And the Neighborhood dining room is getting renovated as well! We hope all renovations will be finished by mid-September. We are excited to showcase our community’s new look to the residents and families.

Nerissa’s Notes:Flu Season

It’s that time of year again, and fluseason is around the corner. The

timing of flu is very unpredictableand can vary from season to

season. Most seasonal flu activitytypically occurs between Octoberand May; in the United States, the

flu most commonly peaksbetween December and January.

The CDC recommends a yearly fluvaccine for everyone 6 months ofage or older as the first and most

important step in protectingagainst this serious disease. People

should begin getting vaccinatedideally by October to ensure thatas many people as possible are

protected before flu season begins. It takes about two weeks aftervaccination for antibodies to

develop in the body and provideprotection against the flu.

In addition to getting the vaccine, you can take everyday preventativeactions like staying away from sickpeople and washing your hands toreduce the spread of germs. If youare sick with the flu, stay home to

prevent spreading the flu toothers.

If you do get sick with the flu, antiviral drugs which are

prescription drugs can be used totreat flu illness. Prompt treatmentwith antiviral drugs can preventserious flu complications; it can

mean the difference betweenhaving a milder illness versus veryserious illness that could result in

a hospital stay. Treatment withantivirals works best when begunwithin 48 hours of getting sick, but can still be beneficial when

given later in the course of illness.
