Cue Descriptions

Arm Cue!Enables a cue to be executed.

Target: Any Cue

Audio Cue!Plays sound files. Supports WAV, AIFF, MP3 and more

Target: Audio File

Camera Cue!Accepts a video stream from a Firewire camera

Target: None

Devamp Cue!Causes a target Audio cue to continue past the end of a

looped slice to play the rest of the sound clip. Also will

either launch the next cue or stop the target at the end of

the current slice.

Disarm Cue!Disables a cue so it cannot be executed.

Fade Cue!

Affects the volumes for faders and crosspoints as well as

adjust effects for Audio and the Geometry for Video

Goto Cue!Sets the next cue to be executed. This allows for jumping

to another part of the cue sequence.

Target: Any cue.

Group Cue!Groups cues together for organization and playback.

Stopping a Group cue stops all cues in the group. Box

around the group shows the group mode.

Load Cue!Readies a target cue for execution. Anything the cue

needs to run is loaded into memory.

Memo Cue!Creates a comment in the cue list.

MIDI Cue!Sends a MIDI Voice, Show Control or SysEx message to a

Workspace SettingsWorkspace Settings can be changed with the Workspace

Settings Button in the lower right of the Cue List Window

GeneralStart Cue Number

When set, QLab will automatically start executing cues from the specified number

Time Between Each Go

Helps prevent accidental execution from excess adrenaline or faulty keys. Establishes a minimum time between GO commands and allows setting a required “key up” event to prevent cue autorepeating.

Auto Numbering

Allows setting a standard increment for automatically numbering cues.

Lock Playback to Selection

Sets the selected cue as the next to be executed on receiving a GO command. Without this option unchecked, it is possible to work on cues without disturbing the regular sequence of playback.

Panic Duration

Set an amount of time for executing cues to fade out gracefully when Stop All is used. Default is 1.5 seconds.

Display Size Changes the Current Cue List font to one of 3 sizes.

Key MapThis section allows for custom definition of some

keyboard shortcuts. Click on the X next to a text box to

clear the keystroke.

OSC ControlsAllows QLab to respond to Open Sound Control

messages.

Use Passcode

Set a passcode for clients to acces this workspace.

Command Strings

Optional alternate command strings for various commands. Can be set by direct entry or by capturing values from the client.

MIDI ControlsOperation to allow control of QLab remotely from other

MIDI based devices.

Use MIDI Show Control

Enable/Disable control with MSC commands.

Use Device ID

Sets the Device ID for this workspace 1 through 126.

Use “Musical” MIDI Controls

Enable//Disable MIDI Voice Messages. Allow custom messages to be defined for various operations. Set the MIDI ID to listen for messages 1 through 16. Commands may be entered directly or captured from a MIDI controller.

Audio Cue SettingsAudio Patch Assignments

Pop-up menus that allow each Audio Patch (1 through 8) to be set to a particular output device.

Edit Patch buttons

Allows setting custom routing of signals to the output device, changing the channel assignments, and applying effects to channels and device outputs.

Volume Limits Set a maximum and minimum volume limit for an output fader.

Guaranteed Sync

Enable Guaranteed Synchronization by default. Allows for all audio cues to be synchronized to individual samples.

Default Levels for new Audio

Cues

Sets the default levels for input and output and Crosspoints of newly created Audio cues. Buttons available to set all to a Default level or Silent. Also allows ganging output faders. Faders with the same name will operate together.

Mic Cue SettingsAssigns a patch and default values for new Mic cues

Mic Patch Pop-up menus that allow assigning an Audio Input connected to the Mac to a patch (1 through 8)

Available Surfaces

Displays all current available surfaces. For a new Workspace, the initial Surfaces are defined per video output. Surfaces can be modified using the Edit button to change the basic shape, set an edge blend Gamma value, projector origin and orientation. Custom surfaces may be removed by clicking on the X.

Plus Button Allows creation of custom Surfaces which can be mapped over multiple projectors.

Duplicate Button

Creates a copy of a selected surface that can be modified for a different view.

Camera Cue SettingsPop-up menus to assign a Camera Patch (1 through 8) to a

video camera attached to the Mac.

Fade Cue SettingsSet the default behaviors for Face cues

Default Fade Duration

Sets a default time in seconds for new Fade cues

Default Curve Shape

Sets a default curve for all fades to either an S-Curve or a Custom curve. With Custom, any curve can be defined by clicking on the yellow line and dragging a new shape.

OSC Cue SettingsAssigns Open Sound Control network nodes to Patches (1

through 16). Enter the IP address of the node and the Port

to sent the data to. If a passcode is needed for accessing

another QLab device, it may be entered here.

MIDI Cue SettingsPop-up menus to assign available MIDI output devices to

Patches (1 through 8).

Timecode Cue SettingsPop-up menus to assign a default Frame Rate and radio

Basics Inspector TabGeneral information and settings about a cue. All Cue Descriptions have the same options on the Basics tab of the inspector.

Number The Cue number. Can be any combination of letters/numbers but must be unique in the workspace.

Color Change the color of the Cue row. Click the X to reset

Name Cue name. May be any combination of letters, numbers or symbols.

Target Displays the cue’s target. The arrow button to the right will jump to the target. IN the case of a file, the target file will be revealed in the finder. For a cue target, QLab will jump to that cue.

Pre-Wait Amount of time in seconds before the group cue executes

Post-Wait Amount of time in seconds before launching the next cue if Autocontinue is set.

Continue Automatically execute the next cue. Options:! Do not continue! Auto-continue: Wait until Post-Wait time has elapsed! Auto-follow: Wait until current cue is completed

Armed Enable or disable the cue

MIDI Trigger Assign a specific MIDI message that will trigger this cue. Can be Note On, Note Off, Program Change, Control Change, Key Pressure, Channel Pressure. Click ‘Capture’ to set by a signal from a controller.

Hotkey Trigger

Assign a key that will call up this cue whenever pressed. Click X to clear

Wall Clock Time

Execute cue when a specific day and time is reached according to System time. Can be in 24 Hour time, AM or PM. Button to the right allows selecting specific days of the week to launch the cue.

Timecode Trigger

Tells QLab to launch this cue according to a Timecode from either MIDI Time Code or a Liner time code from an external source.

Start Time Beginning time marker for the clip in seconds.

End Time End time marker for the clip in seconds.

Play Count Number of times to play through the clip. Separate radio button will set an infinite loop

Add Slice Button to place a Slice marker in the Media Timeline. Click and drag the slice marker to change the position. Click and drag off the Timeline to delete it

Delete All Removes all Slice markers.

Media Timeline Display for the media clip over time. Beginning and ending markers are displayed as yellow lines. Slice Markers displayed as green lines with an editable repeat count for each slice displayed at the bottom of the Timeline. Click on the repeat count to change the number. Enter ‘INF’ for an infinite loop.

Fade Envelope Button

Toggles display of an editable fade curve in yellow over the duration of the clip. Handles may be added and adjusted by clicking on the fade curve. Handles may be removed by clicking on them and hitting the Delete key. ⌫

Preview Button Plays the cue without changing the show playback context. Pauses when clicked during playback.

Rate Adjust the rate of playback. 1 is normal rate. Less that 1 is slower.

Pitch Shift Determines whether the change in rate affects the pitch of the sound. With it selected, the pitch will be shifted in relation to the rate.

Hold At End For Video Cues, holds the final image once the cue plays out. Not available for Audio cues.

Magnifiers Zooms in or out of the display. A scroll function on a mouse or trackpad will have the same effect.

Device and Levels TabOutput device and volume levels for audio. In Audio cues, it is called Device and Levels. Also available for the audio portion of a Video cue as the Audio Levels tab.

Audio Output Patch Selects the output device from the list of installed devices.

Edit Device Click Ellipsis button [...] to edit the patch for the selected device. Changes here will affect all audio cues assigned to this device.

Default Levels Sets all channels and crosspoints to default levels defined in the Audio Settings for that output.

Set All Silent Sets all channels and crosspoints to -∞Assign Gangs Allows channels and crosspoints to be ganged.

Enter a label in each channel or crosspoint to be ganged. Those with the same label will operate together.

Visible Channels Number of channels displayed for this cue. Maximum is 48.

Master Fadet Control the master output volume.

Output Faders Individual controls for output channels. Level meter will display in these when the cue is executing.

Inputs Master input level for each channel of the file.

Crosspoints Controls how much of each input channel is routed to each output. Click to enter manually or click and drag up or down to adjust with a mouse or trackpad.

Trim/Audio Trim TabAllows for control of overall output levels for this audio cue. Settings here are not affected by fade cues so this can be used to change the overall relative volume for any fades that take place. Also available for the audio portion of a Video cue.

Master Control the master output volume. Last step in the signal path for this cue.

Outputs Individual controls for output channels. Level meter will display in these when the cue is executing. The number of faders will adjust according to the Visible Channels in the Levels tab.

Audio Effects TabAllows adding effects to audio. Each affect is applied before any volume adjustments. Also available for the audio portion of a Video cue.

Add effect... Menu Select an effect to add. Adding an effect will automatically bring up a Settings dialogue for the effect.

Effects List Each effect added is listed. Click and drag effects to change the order in which they are applied from top down. Effects may be disabled using the check box and removed using the X on the far right. Setting for the effect may be accessed with the Edit button.

Curve Shape TabAllows setting a custom curve for the action of the cue.

Curve Type Select either a fixed ‘S-Curve’ or Custom curve.

Duration The amount of time in seconds the cue will take to execute.

Halts the cue and clears it from memory when duration time has elapsed.

Fade Curve Allows for changing the nature of the fade over time when Custom Curve is selected. The left half affects levels that fade up, the right for levels that fade down. Handles to change the curve can be added by clicking on the line. Selected handles will be solid dots which can be manipulated with the pointer and can be deleted with the Delete key ⌫.

Levels TabChanges in Audio levels for the target. Handles for

naffected levels will be greyed. Levels that change will

have yellow handles. To affect a level, change it’s value.

To set a level to be unaffected, click on the handle without

changing it.

Fade type Selects whether this will be an Absolute or a Relative fade. Absolute fades take a level TO a value. Relative fades adjust a level BY a value.

Stop target when done

Halts the cue and clears it from memory when duration time has elapsed.

Gangs Allows for output channels to be ‘ganged’ making them operate together. Channels with the same name will operate as one.

Set from Target Resets Master, Faders, Inputs and Crosspoints to the levels from the Target. All controls are set to Unaffected.

Set All Silent Set Master and Outputs to -INF

Master Control the master output volume.

Outputs Individual controls for output channel valumes. The number of visible channels is determined by the target cue.

Inputs Master input level for each channel of the file. Only the number of channels in the file is displayed, up to 24.

Crosspoints Controls how much of each input channel is routed to each output. The number of available crosspoints will adjust to the target’s number of input and output channels.

Audio Effects TabAllows fading effect parameters. All effect fades are Absolute.

Stop target when done

Halts the cue and clears it from memory when duration time has elapsed.

Set Audio Effects from Target

Resets changed effect parameters to those defined in the target.

Effects List Lists all audio effects assigned to a cue. The parameters for each effect can be changed using the Edit button for the effect. Changes to the effect may be enabled or disabled with the chech box on the left.

Geometry TabAllows changing video parameters. Only available when Target is a Video cue.

Fade Type Select Absolute or Relative fade. Absolute fades change parameters TO a value. Relative fades change parameters BY a value.

Set Geometry from Target

Resets changed effect parameters to those defined in the target.

Opacity Selects a change in the opacity. Adjust values by clicking and entering a number or by clicking and dragging to set a new value.

Translation Change the position within the surface. The left box is the horizontal position, the right box is the verticle. Adjust values by clicking and entering a number or by clicking and dragging to set a new value.

Scale Adjusts the scale of the image. 1 is full size. The left box is the horizontal scale and the right is the vertical. The lock between then will keep the scales relative to each other. Adjust values by clicking and entering a number or by clicking and dragging to set a new value.

Rotation Allows changing the rotation along the X, Y or Z axes. Click on a button to change the rotation. X will rotate from top to bottom, Y will rotate from left to right, and Z will rotate around the center point. Reset will return the image to the original orientation.

Orientation Allows full control over all axes (3D Orientation) or limiting to just one axix, Z, Y or Z. When in 3d Orientation, a Reset is available to clear all parameters.

Surface Display Allows for dynamic positioning of the image on the surface. Click and drag the image to move or use arrow keys to nudge,.

Message Type Selected the type of MIDI message to send, MIDI Voice, MIDI Show Control (MSC) or MIDI SysEx

Send Message Sends the currently define message to the selected output.

MIDI Voice Message

Command Selects the particular MIDI command for this message; Note On/Off, Program/Control Change, Key/Channel Pressure or Pitch Bend

Channel Selects the MIDI Channel from 1 to 16

Command Values Specifies what values to set for the particular command. Options will change depending which command is selected.

MIDI Show Control Message (MSC)

Command Format Selects the command group for this MSC command e. g. Lighting General, Lasers, et. al.

Video Cue InspectorPlays a Video file. Supports any Apple AVFoundation

media format including PhotoJPEG, H.264, ProRes 4444,

JPEG, and PNG. Only available with a Basic or Pro Video

license.

Video Surface Select the output surface. Surfaces are defined in Video Settings. By default, each installed video output will have a dedicated surface.

Edit Surface Click Ellipsis button [...] to adjust the settings for the selected surface. Changes here will affect all video cues assigned to this surface.

Mode Sets either Full Screen (fit to entire surface) or Custom Geometry. Geometry controls will only be displayed when set to Custom Geometry.

Preserve Aspect Ratio

Visible when Full Screen is selected. Select whether Full Screen will distort the image to fit the surface or merely expand until the edges are met according to the image’s aspect ratio.

Layer Which video layer this input is on. A lower value will be composited under a higher one. Value from 0 to 1000 (Top)

Opacity The solidity of the video or image. Adjustable by either entering a percentage in the box next to it or by clicking in that box and dragging up or down to set a value..

Translation Adjusts the placement of the image within the surface relative to the origin. The left box is the horizontal position and the right is the vertical. Adjust values by clicking and entering a number or by clicking and dragging to set a new value.

Scale Adjusts the scale of the image. 1 is full size. The left box is the horizontal scale and the right is the vertical. The lock between then will keep the scales relative to each other. Adjust values by clicking and entering a number or by clicking and dragging to set a new value.

Rotation Allows changing the rotation along the X, Y or Z axes. Click on a button to change the rotation. X will rotate from top to bottom, Y will rotate from left to right, and Z will rotate around the center point. Reset will return the image to the original orientation.

End Time End time of the cue. Where in the file to stop playing. Reset to the start of the file by clicking on the arrow icon next to the box.

Auto-stop at end Halt execution and clear the cue from memory. When left unchecked, the final frame of the video file is held indefinitely

Surface Display Allows for dynamic positioning of the image on the surface. Click and drag the image or use the arrow keys to nudge it.

Video Effects TabAssign a video effect to this cue. Only one effect may be assigned per cue.

Apply Effects Check box to enable a video effect. Effects are selected using the pop-up menu.

Effect Inputs Custom controls for the selected effect are displayed in this box.
