    St. Josephs College of Quezon City was founded in 1932 by the DutchFranciscan Sisters of Veghel, The Netherlands. It is owned and administeredby the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Mother ofGod (SFIC Philippine Province). As such, it is a Catholic College at the serviceof the Church and Philippine society, striving for academic freedom andexcellence, and for relevant response to the needs of people. The Collegeoperates five academic departments: SPED, Kinder-Grade School, HighSchool, College of Arts and Sciences and Graduate Schoo

    History of SJCQC

    Origins

    St. Josephs College of Quezon City was founded 75 years ago as St. JosephsAcademy by Dutch Franciscan Sisters. Situated along Espaa Extension, theschool admitted its first primary school pupils in 1932 and drew childrenfrom the rapidly growing communities of New Manila, Kamuning and SanJuan. Under the leadership of its first school directress, Mother MagdalaVerhuizen, the academy opened the high school department the followingyear.During the Japanese occupation, the school was closed down, the Dutchsisters interned in Los Baos, and the buildings were used as a mini-militaryhospital by the Japanese army and later by the US military.SJA officially became St. Joseph s College of Quezon City in 1948 with theopening of the college department which offered programs in education,liberal arts, secretarial science and music.

    Special Education

    St. Josephs College was given government recognition on November 7, 2003for the SPECIAL EDUCATION COURSE WITH INCLUSIVE EDUCATION FORMENTAL RETARDATION AND AUTISM.

    In SY 2003-2004, it had an enrolment of thirty six students, one of whom is inthe Kindergarten Department, two are mainstreamed in the Grade SchoolDepartment and two in the High School Department. The special childrenhave mental retardation, dyslexia, ADHD, Downs syndrome, autism and/or

    global development delay.Assisting them in their holistic development, especially in their behaviormodification, are two administrators, three full-time teachers, one full-timeoccupational therapist, a part-time guidance counselor and a part-timeshadow teacher.The activities of the students are varied depending upon their capabilities.Participated by all, together with their parents/guardians are programs,socialization activities, physical fitness activities, games, and arts activities

    Goals

    We commit ourselves to:provide special education for children with Autism, Mental Retardation, Down

    Syndrome, ADHD/ADD/Global Delay, Learning Disabilities and Behavioral Problems;develop the potential of the special children to enable them to become useful and

    productive members of the society;coordinate with other organizations and institutions that cater to special children; and

    mainstream the special children in the regular classroom whenever possible.
