BA MEDIA FUN RUN
The 3rd Year BA Media students hosted a charity fun run on the 22nd September from the Kraal.
On race day the weather turned out adversely and the start of the race was delayed for 30min.About 70 runners participated with the rain stopping briefly for the duration of the race. Lebohang Sinti finished surprisingly 1st with Amos Nyongo 2nd and Msikeleli Moli in 3rd place.
The beneficiary of the event Masifunde Learner Development was present to receive all the entry fees. Stall sold various items which were also
donated to Masifunde. The NGO made a presentation after the prize giving. NMMU Sport was represented by me and I also officiated with the handing out of prizes.
Overall, the event was a successful and should be encouraged by NMMU Sport.
2nd Year Sports Management 5km Fun Run - 10th Oct
This group of students had a project to run a fun run which would give them points and we assisted them with all the arrangements from, The conveners met twice with me to ensure all systems was in place. On the 8th Oct we had our final meeting in the Club house. Entry forms were distributed to all Sports Shops in Summerstrand and on Campus.
On race day the organizing team arrived at 2pm to set up the start and finish and the Club House for the prize giving. The race began at 5.30pm as planned and all marshals were on their stations. The Campus traffic controlled the main road and the marshals controlled all inter sections leading onto the route.
We had over 40 participants ranging from students to community members. Amos Nyongo was the overall winner. Lucky draw prizes and cash were handed out as per the entry form.

Masifunde Rainbow Run event
The Masifunde Rainbow Run, co-ordinated by Dr Bianca Wright and the third-year pub-lic relations students, was a huge success. The event took place on the 22 September 2012 at NMMU South Campus at the Kraal. We were scheduled to use the Rag farm but due to weather conditions we changed venue. The turnout was great despite the weather as we had many participants at our run.
A special thank you goes to Mr Nellis Bothma and Mr Derrick Hoshe who assisted us in advising us as to what we would need for the run. On behalf of the NMMU sport bureau both Mr Hoshe and Mr Bothma assisted us in providing us with barrier tapes; 15 mar-shal bibs; 15 red flags; a shot gun; 10 bins; 10 refuse bags; a loud hailer and 8 batter-ies.
Peer Help Breakfast Walk/Run
Student Counselling, Career and Development Centre (SCCDC) Peer Help Team would like to thank you for being a generous supporter of a 4.5 Km Fun Walk/Run.
Moreover, we were really intrigued by Derrick Hoshe and his team; he is really an amazing person, always willing to support. We really experienced one of our NMMU values of UBUNTU at its best. Marshalls were on time, the Fun Run started on time, and many more positive spin offs.
We have sold out about 300 tickets and about +200 participated in the Walk/ Run. The Fun Run attracted quite a diverse group from professional runners to fun walkers. There were lots of prizes and lucky draws. This was a very successful event.
