The Jinibara P&C and broader school community has been patiently anticipating this moment for a number of years and it has finally arrived. I am delighted to share with the P&C and our whole school community that work, to air-condition our school will commence in the 2020 September vacation. It is estimated that the roll out across our school will take twelve weeks. This means that we can expect that some disruption to our normal school functions will occur across all of term 4. The impact felt at the individual classroom level will however be significantly less. The majority of classes will experience 4/5 school days out of their usual classroom. A few will not have any disruption. When your child’s classroom is undergoing the ‘in room’ installation phase they will be assigned to another vacant classroom with their teacher and aides to accompany them. Your child’s classroom teacher will provide notice to you of what change to rooms, when and for how long. We will give as much notice as we can however unforeseen circumstances may arise and last minute changes to the timing of classroom moves is likely to occur. Our advice to hand today, is that the JD building will be ‘first cab off the rank’ during the school vacation because it is a two storey building and will require scaffolding. The plan is for that work to be complete before school returns on the 6 th , October. Next will be D Block (4xprep rooms). Two internal walls are required and installation of two AC units per room (not the usual one unit). This will be the longest ‘build time’ for our school and despite work commencing during the vacation, completion will not be until part-way through week one of the term. For week one term four, year six will be on camp so the Preps (D1, D2, D3 and D4 only) will temporarily use F Block, the year 6 classrooms. I am sure our Preps will be excited to be at the ‘big end’ of the school for these few days. Note: Drop off and collection for Prep students will still be the Junior Covered Play Area as is currently the case. Teachers and aides will walk the students to and from F Block. Preps will continue to eat and play in their usual areas NOT the senior end of the school. The roll out across the rest of the school will be two classes at a time and those effected classes will temporarily relocate to G Block. G Block will undergo a refurbishment, also during the holidays, to have new teaching walls and electronic SMART boards installed for the purpose of decanting classes in term 4 as internal room work is completed and for full utilisation in 2021 as predicted. The ability for Queensland students to be able to concentrate and be comfortable in a learning environment is essential in achieving the best possible student outcomes in 2021 and beyond. Staff and students are rightly excited about the prospects for Jinibara the CoolSchool. In anticipation of our school communities’ support and understanding, given the potential for some disruption, I thank staff, students and families for their co-operation as we navigate a bumpy end to the 2020 school year. Much of what has happened this year was unexpected and at times has tested our patience and resolve. I don’t believe our school community has been found wanting, indeed there has been much to celebrate. I’m confident Term will be another opportunity for our students, our staff and our community to shine. Jinibara at its best. KEEP A WATCH ON OUR SCHOOL THESE HOLIDAYS With the holidays next week, we need you to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please remember to call the School Watch number 13 17 88. The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools.

COOLSCHOOL - JINIBARA

In February this year, the State Government announced funding to air-condition state schools across Queensland. The Jinibara P&C and broader school community has been patiently anticipating this moment for a number of years and it has finally arrived. I am delighted to share with the P&C and our whole school community that work, to air-condition our school will commence in the 2020 September vacation. With the holidays next week, we need you to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please remember to call the School Watch number – 13 17 88. The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools.

If you do see something suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Call the School Watch number and let the local police or State Government Protective Security Service deal with the matter. Keep the number handy – 13 17 88 – and let’s work together to help create a safer Jinibara State School community. If you would like to know more about the School Watch Program, please call Education Queensland's School Security Section on (07) 3237 0874. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I take this opportunity to wish all students and their families a safe and restful Spring Vacation. I encourage our whole school community to take this opportunity to refresh and recharge, as there is much to do in Term 4, 2020. School resumes for students and staff on Tuesday 6th October, 2020. Kind regards

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL NEWS Wow! What a term. It has been busy, productive, enjoyable and different in the continuing unprecedented times. Everyone has worked hard to make this a successful Term 3 and it certainly has been great to see our students being enthusiastically learning in the class. Thank you for your ongoing support. I wish all our families a safe, healthy and very enjoyable school holidays. This week’s rule focus is: I am Respectful. Students can show they are being a respectful Jinibara student by:

using manners and speaking in a respectful tone

being a courteous active participant

using whole body listening

being considerate of others

taking care of school equipment and property

Uniforms for Term 4

Over the holidays, please make sure that students have the correct items for school. It is expected students will be wearing the correct uniform with white socks and black shoes. The school holidays will be a great opportunity to stock up on items, such as the correct socks, so students are meeting the uniform requirements.

Our target is for students to attend school is at least 93% or more of the time. It is vital for children’s academic and social development. Every day really does count – all day, every day and on time. Please see the table below, which demonstrates how absenteeism can quickly add up:

Term 4 is always a busy time with lots of learning to be done so it is vital students attend all day every day unless they are sick. Attendance makes a big impact for students academically and socially.

ADMINISTRATION NEWS Payments

The finance section of the Department of Education discussed with schools moving towards cashless. We have set up three (3) ways for parents to pay for activities, BPoint, EftPos and Qkr. From the beginning of 2021, Jinibara State School will no longer be receiving cash for activities and resources. This will also apply to the Tuckshop and the Uniform Shop. BPoint, an invoice is sent to the parent and you can click on the link and follow the prompts, EftPos, attend the school and pay by card, Qkr, download the App, tap on the activity and follow the process. Multiple payments can be made on all payment methods. PREP ENROLMENT INTERVIEWS for PREP 2021

We are currently taking enrolments for Prep 2021. Please collect an enrolment pack from the office if your child is attending Prep in 2021. Once your application is completed and submitted to the office, the school will be in contact with you to arrange an interview in Semester 2. Jinibara SS now has an enrolment management policy in place and you must live in the catchment area.

SRS and Goods and Services payments

Please ensure you continue to pay your SRS for Prep to Year 3 and the Goods & Services ($50) for Years 4-6. Moving into term 4 we will be placing our orders to be ready for 2021 classes. Paying now will ensure your child’s classroom stationery will be ordered in time. Prep – year 3 return your SRS forms and we can raise an invoice for you to pay via BPoint, Qkr or EFTPos. Years 4-6 pay your invoice through the same process and all additional consumables will be provided throughout the year with no additional payments required. Cleaner Required

Looking for a cleaner on a temporary contract for the remainder of the year with possible extension into 2021.Afternoon shift per week 17½ or 3½ hours per day from 10:00am – 1:30pm. Please contact the office and speak with Angela.

STEM NEWS The Year 4 students have been doing a unit of work with the micro:bit, which is circuit board that can be coded. The culminating activity for the unit is to design and make a creature that incorporates the micro:bit. They have enjoyed designing some really interesting creatures. As part of the First Lego League challenge the Robotics students are doing a project that investigates ways to get people to be more active. They thought one of the problems that might affect activity is that children might become more interested in technology and games rather than getting outdoors as they got older. To investigate their theory they surveyed the students in the school about whether they would prefer to play at the park or at home. They found that more students in Prep to Year 3 preferred to play in the park, however more students in Year 4 to 6 preferred to stay home. Last week Jinibara State School hosted the MBTA (Moreton Bay Technology Alliance). The MBTA is a group of teachers from a variety of schools in the Moreton Bay Region who come together to share knowledge and resources to support the implementation of the Technology curriculum across all year levels. It is good opportunity to not only network with other schools but also other businesses. The visiting teachers were impressed with our facilities and resources.

TUCKSHOP NEWS Volunteer Call Out Are you interested in volunteering at the Tuckshop in Term 4?

Whether you think you might be available to help from the first week back or only later in the term…drop in and see me or give me a call on 34911278 during Week 1 of Term 4 so we can discuss finding a place for you on our roster. Volunteering at the Tuckshop isn’t an all-day event…it is helping out at a time that suits you. This could be volunteering:

just for a morning…weekly/ fortnightly/ monthly

for an hour or two after helping in the classroom (ie. with reading or maths)

restocking (drinks etc) and preparation work at the end of a school day

a cleaning task once or twice a term (ie defrosting a freezer)

coming in to ‘learn the ropes’ then being ‘on call’ for when members of the regular team are absent Volunteering is a great way to make some new friends, or acquire some useful transferable skills…not to mention how excited students get to see someone they know behind the Tuckshop counter. Thank You Tuckshop Team

It’s been a really busy term at the Tuckshop and getting the lunches out on time wouldn’t have been possible without our small band of talented mums, dads and grandmas. Thank you Tash, David, Francene, Helen, Belinda, Truusje, Jannelle and Tamika. You did an awesome job! Julie and I appreciate it so much…couldn’t have done it without you. JUNE BROWN CONVENOR
