Advance Metrology (Group 6) Lab work 4 1.0 INTRODUCTION From this task we are able to perform dimensional measurements such as angle, radius, and distance measurements, the contour tolerancing function for evaluating "form" and the report creation function for outputting measurement results in a specific format are provided as standard, measuring both ease of operation and powerful analysis capabilities. Contour measurement using a contracer machine (Mitutoyo CV – 3100) is a powerful system for automatic high-volume measurement. Event with greater precision in all axis for difficult stationary contour testing in production environment or in the test room. 2.0 HISTORY 3.0 OBJECTIVES This practical task will be applied when to measure contour of part. It will be used to interpret our knowledge and understanding of the theories and techniques discussed within the topics into our practical application. At this end of this practical task, we are able to identify the method used to measure contour of part and we also able to demonstrate the operation of the ‘contracer’.

6.0 Methodology

a. Switch ON Computer and Machine power supply

b. Clamp the specimen to vicesc. Click to “FORMPARK contour” softwared. Create New File for new measuremente. Align the stylus to the specimen. Make sure the stylus in middle position

of Stylus Arm.f. Set the length of measurement ( up to 50mm). then click button X0, Z0

at left hand side column bar.g. When ready, press Start button and wait the stylus reading the contour.h. After the machine complete reading contour, make the measurement

for the drawing.i. Create line measurement: Line, tangent line, perpendicular, parallelline.

 j. Create circle measurement: Circle (multi-points, range, center andradius)

k. Create position, difference: Coordinate difference, true position judgment

l. Create distance, angle: Distance, groove length, step, pitch, distancereference, angle

m. From this software we also can calculation, statistics: Arithmetic

calculation, absolute value, square root, maximum value, minimumvalue, mean, sum, standard deviation, unbiased standard deviation,area.

n. Editing of measured points: Deletion, translation, rotation, mirror image,o. positioning, combination, separation, projection

p. Sub-part program: Calculation procedure can be registered as a Sub-

part program. The Sub-part program can be integrated into a part

program facilitating measurement of batch of speciment

q. After complete the measurement, measured data and analysis

procedure can be saved in the hard disk or we can print out the result.

This function allows an original result report to be created and printed

out.

8.0 Discussion

From this task, we can see that Contour measurement is very helpful in

precision measurement. Contour measurement can give accurate

measurement even in small dimension to the largest part.

9.0 Suggestion

• Increase the value measurement of X-axis up to 100mm

• Enlarge the work table (vice clamp) for larger specimen.

10.0 Conclusion

At the last of this task, we are able to know which machine is suitable

to use measure the correct parts. From what we learn we know thatContracer Motutoyo CV-3100 are using to measure dimension of 

small parts, and from this task also, we also know the limitation of this

contour measurement machine.
