What do between now and July 20?
1. Use the video camera.
2. Gather digital artifacts such as video, photos, music, or things that you can scan. For
example, Kathy has a piece of bread that her grandmother brought over from Belgium in
1871. She scanned it.
3. Try some story ideas. Throw out some story ideas.
4. Play around with the programs and post a short-short (maximum of 30 seconds) by to the
Ning by June 15 to become familiar with the process of using the camera and uploading
to the Ning.
5. Go to the links provided with articles and websites. Post a critique of two of them on the
Ning Blog by June 29.
6. Post possible digital story ideas by July 10. Respond to at least three other Fellows.
7. Contact Kathy or Larry if you need a digital voice recorder for better quality audio.
8. Download Photo Story (Windows), IMovie (Mac), or Audacity (Windows/Mac) to play
around with. Practice
9. Create a Flickr slideshow and embed into the Ning. Respond to the slideshows of at least
three Fellows by June 12.
What to bring on Monday, July 20
1. 4 GB flashdrive to save and transfer files
2. 5 photos you’re thinking about using in your first story
3. Notes for your story
4. Artifacts that might relate to your story
5. Headphones or earbuds if you have them
6. Your digital camcorder
7. A digital camera if you have your own with usb cable
8. Notebook or notepad to rough out ideas
9. Laptop (if you have your own and would prefer to work on it instead of using the
equipment at Greenwood)
