WHAT WERE MARY, ZECHARIAH,SIMEON, & ANNA HOPING FOR?- Messiah overthrowing the oppressors- Liberation for the oppressed- Food for the poor/hungry- Fulfillment of God’s covenant promises- Glory of Israel, light to the nations

against our abundance,(and materialism), and points toliberation, and justice for the poor”

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the poverty of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has

done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

ADVENT ~ Week 1

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we would be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us. Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors, and has remembered his holy covenant…

ADVENT ~ Week 1

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law…

ADVENT ~ Week 1

There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day. At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
