ESTIMATE OF GIVING FOR 2020
7 The Monday Night Bible Study continues to meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month. The
study is at 6:30 pm in the Fireside Room. Below is a description of the new study. Come join us.
Study books available for $8.00.
Romans: Becoming New in Christ Life Guide Scripture Studies By: Jack Kuhatschek Our
prayer life becomes stagnant. We forget why we are serving God. And the world's ways subtly become our ways. Romans
addresses these problems and shows us how we can break out of old patterns and become new in Christ. This series consists
of 19 studies each which is independent from the others. Feel welcome to join the group anytime.
1 Romans 1:1-17 Good News from God 2 Romans 1:18-32 The Wrath of God 3 Romans 2 The Judgement of God 4 Romans 3: 1-20 The Verdict

Every Wednesday RECHARGE recognizes that following Jesus and being par t of a Family of Faith is not a
once-a-week event.
RECHARGE r ecognizes that we may benefit from returning to the Source of Power in -
between Sundays.
RECHARGE is a time and a place to gather with brothers and sisters in Chr ist.
RECHARGE is meant to fill you with life and peace in the midst of an often hectic life –
you don’t have to cook and you get to worship, sing, pray and commune.
A RECHARGE in life and faith in the middle of the week is what you are invited to be part of
each Wednesday. We begin with a light meal served from 5:00-6:00 pm ($2.00 suggested
donation) followed by Worship for everyone at 6:00 pm. The evening concludes with the Final
15 7:45-8:00 pm – a quiet time of prayer and contemplation.
Check it out, and make RECHARGE a regular part of your weekly schedule!

Are you concerned about climate change(d)? And wondering how this fits into your faith life? And what we
can do about it? St. Andrew’s is hosting the Living Waters Conference for a gathering called “Creation Caring
in Congregations: What Could (or Does) It Look Like in Yours?” The Northeast Minnesota Synod
Eco-Faith Leadership team will guide us through presentations and discussion of how we as individuals, a
community and congregations can engage in earth stewardship, how this enters into all areas of ministry (not
another committee!!), and sharing of ways we do and want to be good stewards. This event is for all ELCA
congregations in our conference, and we welcome individuals and teams from other denominations as well so
spread the word. There is no cost though registration is appreciated. Will you join us on Thursday, November
14 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm? To do so, Contact the church office (218) 326-8508 and get your name on the
list. You can also email [email protected]. Please indicate your commitment by Thursday, November 7.

St. Andrew’s is in the community and making a difference and YOU are encouraged to be an active partici-
pant! The fourth Tuesday of each month, St. Andrew’s will be working at the Community Café at the Kiesler
Wellness Center. We are part of the Community Cafe’s mission to serve a nutritious meal to low income fam-
ilies, people with disabilities and to anyone in need while providing all with a sense of social connection. Two
volunteers are needed on our days from 4:00 - 6:30 pm to help serve and clean up. Please sign up on the kiosk
in the Fellowship Hall to help on Tuesday, November 26th.
What a great way to make a difference - and it only takes a couple of hours each month! The Community Café
provides meals every Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Rascals will meet Thursday, November 14th at 5:00 pm; dinner 6:00 pm. Marlys Mestemacher hosts and the program will be provided by Lisa Randall from Elder Circle. Catered dinner costs $12.00 which includes full meal and dessert. Please sign up on the kiosk by Sunday, November 10th; make checks payable to Marlys Mestemacher. Payment must be made in advance. Payment can be given to Marlys or left in the church office. Hope to see you there for an enjoyable evening with your church friends.
St. Andrew’s Preschool is again selling wreaths as a fundraiser. Orders will be taken after worship on Sunday mornings and at the annual fall bazaar on Saturday, November 9th. You can also call Kelly Olsen at 218-360-0293 or Heidi Gugisberg at 218-360-9332 to place your order. Or leave a message on the preschool extension here at St. Andrew’s 218-326-8508, ext. 5 (please include name and number and they will return your call). Deadline to order is Monday, November 11th. Wreaths will be available for pick on Sunday, November 24th from 10:00 am-noon and Monday & Tuesday, November 25-26 between 8:15-10:00 am or at 11:30 am in the Preschool parking lot. Thank you for supporting St. Andrew’s Preschool.
Church Council—The nomination process has begun to solicit interest in congregation members who wish to serve on the Church Council. If you are interested in serving a three year term on the Council, please contact the church office, Barry Olson and/or Pastor David Anderson. The election of new council members will take place at our annual meeting in January 2020.

Thank You Notes Dear All Service Project Members, On behalf of the staff, board of directors and, most importantly, the guests of Grace House of Itasca County, thank you for your continued generous support of this organization. Your gift will allow us to continue providing safe, temporary shelter and meals to people who are experiencing homelessness while they look for housing and employment. We certainly appreciated your donation of miscellaneous food items and $50.00 in October. Sincerely, Ron Oleheiser, Executive Director Members of St. Andrew’s congregation, Thank you for your school supply donations to this year’s Back-to-School Backpack Program. Your donations will continue to be used throughout the school year as well, to help area youth in need of school supplies. On behalf of all of our ADK members and the United Way, we appreciate your generosity. Many Blessings, ADK (Alpha Delta Kappa) Eta Chapter & the United Way Dear Friends, Thank you for donating quilts to our agency! They will greatly help the victims and survivors of domestic violence we help each day! Thank you. Ashley, Victim Support Advocate
Dear St. Andrew’s, Thank you so much to all that had a hand in making the lunch for the Habitat RV Care-A-Vanners in September. It was so good and appreciated by all of us. Thanks for being a blessing to your community. THANK YOU! Dear St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Thank you so much for your 3rd quarter in-kind donation to the Second Harvest North Central Food Bank. Your donation of 73 pounds will help us to provide food for thousands of meals for hungry neighbors through the 115 organization we partner with. It means so much to those in our community who struggle to put food on their tables when times are tight. In our region, cooler weather means school is back in session and parents have incurred the cost of school clothes and supplies. These additional expenses create a need for help in families already struggling to make ends meet. Having to choose between keeping your children fed and clothed or paying a bill, like heat or rent, is not a choice any parent wants to make. Thanks to your generous gift of $206.00 to Second Harvest North Central Food Bank, we are able to lessen that burden on hungry individuals and families. You are a valued partner in our fight against hunger. Thank you for your generosity making a difference here in north central Minnesota with 1/2 of the Noisy Offering. Sincerely, Susan Estee, Executive Director
Poinsettias Each year for the season of Advent, we place poinsettias in the Sanctuary altar area. Fill out the form below to donate a poinsettia in memory of or in honor of a loved one. Poinsettias are $15.00 each. Please drop off your order and check payable to St. Andrew’s Lutheran in the church office or call the church office at 326-8508 for more information. Deadline to order is Sunday, December 1.

Fellowship AND Service We have a lot of possibilities for family, fun, food, fellowship and friends in December starting with decorating the church on Saturday, December 7th at 9:00 am. It really is a great time, and it’s a proud feeling when you enter the beautifully decorated sanctuary knowing you had a hand in it. It’s a way to meet people at St. Andrew’s. “Many hands make light work” so put December 7th on your calendar. It’s fun fellowship for all ages.
Sunday, December 8th, the Grand Rapids Area Male Chorus (directed by Eileen Grosland) will present their annual Holiday Concert at 2:30 pm at St. Andrew’s.
Our Sunday School Christmas Program will be presented at the 9:00 am worship service on Sunday, December 15th. We will be rehearsing Christmas program songs through the Sundays of November. All Sunday school kids are encouraged to participate in the program. All kids will get to wear costumes and help teach the Christmas story of Christ’s miraculous birth. Students will rehearse on Sunday mornings during the Sunday school hour and will have a dress rehearsal on Saturday, December 14th starting at 10:00 am. Parents, please make every effort to have your child at all rehearsal times.
The gingerbread ‘tree tags’ for children are another way to reach out beyond St. Andrew’s doors. A tree is set up in the Narthex. Please take a tag, buy an age appropriate gift (suggested value $15) and return unwrapped to St. Andrew’s by Wednesday, December 11th.
Go TAIL it on the mountain. Shop ELCA Good Gifts this Christmas for 50 gifts that grow the church, fight hunger and transform lives. ‘Good Gifts’ tags are located outside the church office. Make checks payable to St. Andrew’s and write “Good Gifts” in the memo. Leave a note as to what you are paying for with your check in the church office.
The Boys and Girls Cubs of Grand Rapids and Greenway have been chosen to work directly with NASA and their Engineering Design Challenge that encourages young people to explore and build skills for successful careers in STEM fields through project-based learning. With some simple and inexpensive materials, members are guided through an exciting unit that focuses on a specific problem that NASA engineers must solve and the process they use to solve it. Members design, build, test and revise their own solutions to problems that share fundamental science and engineering issues with the challenges facing NASA engineers. The Clubs are looking for donations of supplies and materials to help them with these challenges. Items needed include: Aluminum foil, Balloons, Binder clips, Bubble wrap, Cardboard or cardstock, Cloth, Coffee filters, Cotton balls, Craft sticks, Glue, Glue sticks, Grid paper, Magnifying lenses and mirrors, Manila folders, Mailing tube, Measuring tape (metric) x 2, Mini aluminum foil pie pans, Modeling clay, Oatmeal canister, Paper (copier, construction, waxed), Paper bags, Paper clips, Paper towel or toilet paper tubes (empty), Pennies, Plastic eggs, Plastic wrap, Polystyrene cups, Poster board, Rubber bands, Rules, Skewers or stirrers, Small sealable plastic storage bags, Staplers and staples, Straws, String, Tape (masking, electrical, transparent and duct), and Yarn. Please drop your donations in the shiny blue box outside the church office by November 20th. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
These opportunities should put you in the Christmas spirit. They are all ways to serve others and nurture relationships. Through these activities, we can be true disciples of Christ.

Good Samaritan Fund Needs Your Help The purpose of this fund is to assist individuals and families facing unique crisis situations; to offer both financial and spiritual support in time of extreme need. Financial support is received from members of St. Andrew's and is not a part of the General Budget. If you can help, please make checks payable to St. Andrew's and indicate "Good Samaritan Fund" in the memo. Place donations in the offering plate on Sunday or drop off or mail to the church office.
Second Harvest North Central Food Bank "Giving Tree" We are again participating in the "Giving Tree" Itasca Holiday Program. The purpose of the Itasca Holiday Program is to provide two nonviolent educational gifts and a book for children ages one year to 12 years old who are from families who are working but could use assistance.
Gingerbread boys and girls tags have been placed on the Christmas tree in the Narthex. Please take a gingerbread tag, purchase the age appropriate gifts and return unwrapped to St. Andrew's no later than Thursday, December 12th.
