We are pleased to offer After School Programs (ASP) for the 2021–22 school year, including After School Care (ASC). Students who register for ASP will automatically be enrolled in ASC for that day. You do not need to register or pay for ASC on days you are scheduled for ASP.

Students must attend the full school day in order to attend ASP or ASC. Students who are unable to be picked up during the designated Lower School dismissal times should register for ASP or ASC. Students must be supervised at all times and will not be allowed to wait unattended for their rides after school.

ASP are listed in this catalogue and do not include private music lessons, ‘Iolani-sponsored club activities or sports, including but not limited to ‘Iolani Dance Team practice, Swim Club, private tennis lessons, music lessons, scouts, CSAL, school events, and school clubs.

‘Iolani’s ASC operating policies have been modified to be in compliance with evolving governmental guidelines and the Department of Human Services (DHS) licensure requirements, as well as ‘Iolani School’s COVID-19 guidelines, found in the COVID-19 PANDEMIC OPERATING POLICIES & PROCEDURES section of the ASP Family Handbook at www.iolani.org/after-school-programs.

Should ‘Iolani School announce additional days off or early dismissal days, ASP will not be held, and you will be notified of schedule changes. Class pricing accounts for special schedules and school holidays.

HOW TO REGISTERAfter School Programs registration must be completed online using the My Backpack program found at ‘Iolani’s website (www.iolani.org/after-school-programs). Registrations will not be accepted by telephone, email, fax, or walk-in. Registrations received prior to your child’s assigned date and time as well as incomplete registrations will not be accepted. Registration fills quickly and program spaces are limited, so we recommend registering at the opening time.

You may check the status of your selected courses three to four business days after registration. The course status will change from “Submitted” to “Scheduled” if the student’s enrollment is confirmed.

*Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, Lower School After School Programs will be open to ‘Iolani students only.

WAITLISTSThe maximum class sizes range from 12 to 20 students. Classes tend to fill quickly during registration. If your child is signed up on the waitlist, there is no guarantee of placement in the course. Waitlists are processed as space becomes available. The Special Programs Office will notify the parent/guardian via email if the student clears the waitlist or if unable to accommodate the waitlist request.

TUITION AND FEESTuition payment in full is due at the time of registration. You may pay by Visa, American Express, or Mastercard.

WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICIESStudents or parents who initiate course withdrawals after submitting their registration will be subject to a refund based on the date when the Special Programs Office receives written email notification from parents for the child’s withdrawal.

Once the registration has been processed, the maximum amount of refund will be 50% of each course. The following schedule determines the amount of the refund:

• 50% refund until Thursday, December 9, 2021 • No refunds will be made after Friday, December 10, 2021

There are no refunds or prorated billing for course time missed . The course fee applies regardless of how many days a child participates in the program. There will be no refunds for unused days.

COURSE CHANGESStudents or parents who initiate course changes (replacing one course for another, requesting time changes) after submitting their registration will be charged $50 for each change requested. No course changes will take place after two meetings of the course.

Courses CANNOT be dropped or changed online via My Backpack . Please email [email protected] for any changes to the schedule. Include your child’s full name and the changes you would like to make.

CANCELED COURSESCourses may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment. If this occurs, parents will be notified via email and we will assist you in finding an alternative class, if available, for your child.

After School Care

After School Care (ASC) is dedicated to providing a safe, well-supervised, and relaxed environment for ‘Iolani students grades Kindergarten through 6. After school activities include arts and crafts, storytelling, and staff-led indoor and outdoor games. Students grades 2 and up will have a designated homework time in which they should work on their assignments or silently read a book.

ASC is offered from the end of the school day to 5:30 p.m. on full school days. No care is provided on holidays, vacations, early dismissal days, or other school days off (see Spring Program Dates on page 3).

Students who register for an After School Program (ASP) will automatically be enrolled in ASC for that day. You do not need to register or pay for ASC on days you are scheduled for programs. ASP are listed in this catalogue and do not include private music lessons, ‘Iolani-sponsored club activities or sports, including, but not limited to ‘Iolani Dance Team practice, Swim Club, private tennis lessons, scouts, CSAL, school events, and school clubs.

Students are expected to report to ASC immediately after they are released from school, check-in, and follow the directions of the staff. Teachers or staff will escort students to their ASP at the designated times.

‘Iolani’s ASC operating policies have been modified to be in compliance with evolving governmental guidelines and the Department of Human Services (DHS) licensure requirements as well as ‘Iolani School’s COVID-19 guidelines, found in the COVID-19 PANDEMIC OPERATING POLICIES & PROCEDURES section of the ASP Family Handbook at www.iolani.org/after-school-programs. We will continue to update families as these procedures are expected to evolve based on ongoing risk assessment and informed best practices to keep our students, employees, and families safe. The following are ASC highlights for the 2021–2022 school year: • ASC students will practice physical distancing within their after school cohorts, and students are required to wear their

PPE (face masks) during ASC. • Temperature checks will be conducted at the start of ASC each day. • ASC students will remain in their school day cohorts, with the possibility of mixing with same grade level cohorts,

depending on enrollment and staffing. • No snacks will be provided. There will be a snack time where students may eat snacks brought from home. There will be

no sharing of snacks. • Due to DHS regulations, we will not offer daily drop in. Instead, families have the option to register for the semester by

day or one month at a time.

(For ‘Iolani students only)

After School Programs

After School Programs (ASP) support the mission of ‘Iolani School by offering engaging classes and enlisting a team of trained teachers and staff. Students who register for ASP will automatically be enrolled in After School Care (ASC) for that day. You do not need to register or pay for ASC on days you are scheduled for programs.

ASP are listed in this catalogue and do not include private music lessons, ‘Iolani-sponsored club activities or sports, including, but not limited to ‘Iolani Dance Team, Swim Club, private tennis lessons, scouts, CSAL, school events, and school clubs. Contact these programs directly for more information.

Tennis

Welcome to the ‘Iolani tennis program where students of all ages and skill levels learn to play “the sport for a lifetime” in a fun and nurturing environment. The many benefits tennis provides include the physical and psychological development of the student where challenges engage the body and mind. Perseverance, problem solving, and learning to work with others are traits formed through the process. In order to ensure proper safety measures and social distancing, class sizes will be smaller with a much smaller student to coach ratio. Coaches will wear PPE during instruction and hand sanitizer will be available to students before and after class.

The ‘Iolani tennis classes are part of a developmental pathway where students matriculate from one skill level to the next as they make progress. Group class offerings range from Kindergarten through the Upper School where the size of the court, racket, and ball are age and skill appropriate. We have adopted the USTA “10 and under tennis” format where the play area and rackets start off small for younger students and progressively get larger as students age up.

The tennis programs have been established with three phases, taking into account the age and experience of each student. Each phase will focus on technical fundamentals, patterns of play, and match play appropriate for the skill level. The phases are as follows:

1. Beginner – Advanced Beginner (0–3 years experience, grades (K–6) a. Classes are offered up to two times per week to students just starting the sport with 0–2 years of experience.

There will be a maximum of 18 students per class to ensure a student to coach ratio of 6:1. b. Red Ball Lessons (K–1) Mondays and Wednesdays 2:30–3:15 p.m. c. Orange Ball Lessons (2–3) Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30–3:15 p.m. d. Green Ball Lessons (4–6) Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30–4:15 p.m. 2. Intermediate – Advanced Intermediate (3+ years experience, grades 7–9) a. Classes are offered up to two times per week to those who aspire to play on ILH tennis teams. There will be a

maximum of 18 students per class to ensure a coach to student ratio of 6:1. b. Yellow Ball Lessons (7–9) Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30–4:15 p.m.

Students should wear athletic shoes and bring a water bottle and tennis racket, if available. Tennis rackets will be provided as needed. Please see individual course descriptions for more details.

PRIVATE LESSONS Private lessons are offered to those students who request one on one instruction. Fundamental stroke production, foot work, and point development are the three areas of training focused on in private training. The following are the time options and rates.

Time Rate 1 hour $65.003/4 hour $50.001/2 hour $35.00

Learn to Swim

The after school Learn to Swim Program provides basic swim instruction to students grades 1–6. Students are grouped according to ability during the first week of class and advance at their own rate. The main goals are to promote water safety and build stroke foundations. Children should bring their own towel, goggles, swimsuit, and sunblock. Additionally, they must be able to apply their own sunblock as well as change in and out of their own bathing suit.
