PHILIPPINE AGRICULTURE SITUATION

Major Agricultural Products

The country's major agricultural crops are rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane, banana, cassava, pineapple, and vegetables.

The major livestock products are hog, cattle, carabao, goat, and dairy products. Chicken and duck are the leading poultry products. Having vast stretches of coastlines, the Philippines boasts of an abundance in fish species.

Among the leading species are tuna and tuna-like varieties, roundscad, sardines, anchovy, and slipmouth.

Performance of Philippine Agriculture

Agriculture expanded by 1.83 percent in 2014.

The crops subsector which shared 51.71 percent in total agricultural production grew by 3.25 percent during the year.

Livestock production increased by 1.02 percent.

The poultry subsector inched up by 0.27 percent.

Fisheries production declined by 0.15 percent in 2014

On the average, farmgate prices went up by 7.74 percent from last year's quotations.
