St. Martha Church

A poem by J. Janda

Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands,

and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” (today’s Gospel)

You get too discouraged

you forget you are learning to walk

of course you fall down

give yourself time

I am patient with you

be more patient with yourself

I have something very special in mind for you

something only you can do

don’t give up.

In Christ,

Our deepest appreci-ation goes to our Choirs, Cantors, instrumental-ists, and all the musicians whose talents help make our parish community so faith filled. Divine Mercy: Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. In a nutshell, Jesus appeared to Sister Faustina Kow-alska in 1931, dressed in white with red and white rays emanating from his chest. He explained that the white rays represent the water which makes souls righteous and the red rays represent the blood which is the life of souls. He said these rays opened up when he was lanced on the cross, and they stand for the infinite mercy that He of-fers to all of us who come to Him. Jesus told her to paint the image as she saw Him with the in-scription, “Jesus I trust in You.” He also told her to spread this image and devotion to the image and His message of divine mercy, and that the Sunday after Easter there should be a feast day. He also taught her what we now know as the Di-vine Mercy chaplet, prayed at St. Martha’s on Fridays at 3:00.

Sister Faustina was canonized by St. Pope John Paul II on April 30, 2000 and on the same day he officially decreed the Sunday after Easter as the Feast of the Divine Mercy.

Formed has many offerings about this topic. “Ocean of Mercy” is an amazing 75 minute show about how St. Faustina, St. Pope John Paul II, and St. Maximillian Kolbe were intertwined with divine mercy and the impacts they had on 20th century history. “Divine Mercy 101” provides a clear and concise overview of Divine Mercy and the role and mission of St. Faustina Kowalska, filmed at the Shrine to the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA. “Divine Mercy in Song” is the chaplet and meditations set to beautiful music. See the com-munity page on saintmartha.formed.org for more recommendations.
