Introduction
Alexandria port is one of the oldest ports in the world (5000 years
old ). Alexander the great built a bridge between the coast and
pharos island creating two ports: the Eastern port used for military
purposes and the Western port used for commercial purposes which
is the current location of Alexandria port .

1- Developing the infrastructure and the superstructure
of the port to cope with latest developments and serve
all port community.
2- developing Information Technology structure which
included supplying modern equipment , installations ,
telecommunication & radio networks and servers.
3- preparing the port electronic system for all
procedures of port operations which supplies real data
online, and integrate this system with other systems of
the port community such as customs, cargo control
authority warehouses …etc.
4- applying qualified systems for stevedoring operations
which decreased ships duration.

The Implementation Of The ISPS Code In Alexandria and El-Dekhiela
ports
• In May 2004 an assessment for Alexandria port was done.
• In June 2005 the port security plan was ready to apply .
All the buildings in the port are guarded by security port authority
personnel.
All restricted areas such as, Banks, communication centers, electric
power supplies, and port facilities etc… are guarded and patrolled by
armed police security forces.
Environment protection activity
Alexandria port Authority formed the Environment protection departmentwith the following mission:
- Applying the contingency plans in Alexandria port in coordinating withconcerned authorities.
- Enforcement of all international conventions regarding the maritimeenvironment.
- Applying inspection procedures for all ships to insure all internationalconditions.
- All stevedoring equipment checked to prevent air pollution according toenvironment protection authority’ instructions
- Using the necessary marine units for environment protection ( skimmers-ballast water boat- cleaning boats…etc.)
- Supervising Port recipient facilities.
-Contracting a specialized company for port cleaning.
-Developing 4 sewage treatment stations in Alexandria port , and using thetreated water for irrigation.-All residual are incinerated according to Environment protection Authorityinstructions.
