Swim Lesson Registration Tips & PoliciesSkills Assessment Days: If you are unsure of what level in which to enroll your child, be sure to stop by the pool on Friday, May 27, at 11:00a, or Saturday May 28, at 11:00a, to have your child evaluated for level placement. Staff will also be able to register your student on-site during skill assessment days.

Inclement Weather Policy: All lessons are taught at an outdoor facility and it is not uncommon for lessons to be cancelled due to inclement weather. It is the responsibility of the participants to check on the status of class when weather looks questionable or is inclement. To check the status of class, please call the Ganek Municipal Center at 847-658-2716 no more than one hour prior to class start time. If a lesson is cancelled due to inclement weather or other reasons determined by the Village, swimmers will have a makeup class. If more than two lessons in a session are cancelled by the Village, a credit will be applied to the family’s account for future use. Credits and/or prorates are not issued to students who cannot attend makeup classes. Makeup dates are predetermined and listed in the class schedule.

What to Expect on the First Day: Before arriving to class, be sure to apply sunscreen as it is most effective when applied 30 minutes prior to entering the water. Also, any swimmer with shoulder length or longer hair is required to tie it back with an elastic band or wear a swim cap. When you arrive at the swimming pool, all participants and spectators will enter through the bath house. Participants and their guardians need to gather under or near the blue shade structure and wait for further instruction from the lesson coordinator. Students will then be called into the pool area by specific levels where they will meet their instructor(s) and review the pool safety poster of the day. Spectators are welcome to watch from the deck chairs or in the concession stand areas only. If we find, after the first day, your swimmer needs to be moved up or down a level, we will adjust them accordingly to provide an optimal learning experience. All participants and spectators are to follow all facility rules posted. Individuals who are not toilet trained must wear diapers and tight-fitting plastic or vinyl pants over their diaper. Lil’ Swimmers do not meet our facility standard. Swim diapers are available for purchase at our concession area.

Individual Swim LessonsIndividual lessons are taught on a one-swimmer-to-one-instructor ratio in accordance with the American Red Cross and the Village of Algonquin’s Learn to Swim Levels. Students are assigned to their instructor based on swimming ability. Requests for specific instructors will not be guaranteed.
