Introduction The AHPs vision

We are delighted to present the Norfolk and Suffolk AHP Strategy 2019-2023, “The Vision for Allied Health Professionals in NSFT”.

The purpose of this strategy is to outline the unique contribution AHPs make to deliver our Trust’s strategic goals. It will help define NSFT’s AHP objectives and will contribute to delivering our Trust’s vision of “Working together for better mental health”. The Strategy has been developed by our AHP Lead, the AHP Senior Advisory Group, NSFT Professional Colleagues, Service User involvement and with talking to NSFT’s own Allied Health Professionals through a wide range of focus group events. It was the main theme of the 2017 NSFT AHP Conference.

Wider consultation includes incorporating national objectives. The NHS England’s Chief AHPs officer published Allied Health Professionals into Action in January 2018, a call to action to increase the use of AHPs to help transform health, care and wellbeing in England. The result is a consensus on how the AHP workforce can be utilised to address three key challenges facing the health and care system:

• Improving health and wellbeing• Improving quality• Closing the finance and efficiency gap

Both of our roles will help lead, develop and shape this strategy and relationships that enable AHPs in NSFT to both respond to and meet these challenges and opportunities.

Yesterday I went out for coffee with a friend.” …Service user

P

NSFT Governors – Catherine Wells, Former Lead Governor

I have been part of the AHPs Workforce for fifty years - that demonstrates how much I believe in what these unique professions can bring to service delivery.

This is achieved through patient centred care which focusses on personal goals and maximising independence to enable a positive quality of life for our service users.

Perhaps some of this way of thinking helps me in my role as Lead Governor, echoing my determination to see a multi professional workforce contributing to the best possible care for all who come into contact with our Trust.’
