Running-in period

Running-inAt the very beginning of new carrunning, a car undergoes moreabrasions inside engine than theabrasion after the running-in period.Running-in effect is mainly decidedby the running of first 2,000km.

Note

In order to achieve the bestadhesion property, new tires haveto undergo running-in. Drive yourcar stably and properly with greatcare on the strip of first 500km.Similarly, you should run newbrake friction plates in becausethe best friction performance willnot emerge in the first 200km.Under situations without the bestbrake effect, please properlyincrease brake pedal efforts.Running-in is also requested

1,000km to 2,010kmAccelerate your car to the highestrunning speed or the highest speedallowable for engineFollowing proposals are applicable todriving during and after running-in

Tips◎ Please don't drive your car at anunnecessary high speed. Shifting tohigh gear early will not help savefuel, reduce noise and protect enviro-nment.

Less than 1,000kmRunning-in experience is elaboratedbelow.● Don't pedal accelerator till itcontacts floor.●Keep the running speed less than80km/h.● Avoid keeping engine running athigh speed.●Don't use a new car as a trailer todrag other vehicles

after brake friction plates arereplaced with new ones.

●Particularly prevent engine runningat high speed under cold conditionregardless of neutral gear or othergears.● Don't drive your car at anexcessively lower speed and shift toa low gear if the engine fails to runstably.

Driving after running-in periodThe highest speed allowable for carengine is indicated by a red zone ontachometer. Avoid pointer reachingthis zone and prevent engine fromdamages.

Charging the fuel tank

1. Shut down the engine.2. Pull the tie rod of fuel tank cap atthe floor under the driver's seat toopen the fuel tank cap.3. Turn the filler cap counterclock-wise slowly. If fizz is heard, wait untilthe sound disappears and thenunscrew the filler cap.4. Unscrew the filler cap. The fillercap is tied to the vehicle by chain.Place the filler cap on the supportinside the oil filler gate.

Recommendation on fuel

Fuel quality has important effect onengine power output, drive abilityand lifetime.Fuel with excessively low octaneratio will result in engine knocking. It's recommended that you use fuelwith high octane ratio.

Tips◎ Use of poor quality fuel or fuelwith excessively low octane ratiomay damage the engine.◎ Use of leaded fuel may damagethe emission system catalyticpurification function and causepollution of the environment.

Note

Please don't fill your car withfuels containing formaldehydefor this will degrade carperformance and damage fuelsystem parts. Failures arisingfrom this are beyond the scopeof warranty.

5. Fit the filler cap back after fuelcharging. Turn the filler capclockwise until clicks are heard andthen fasten the oil filler gate.

68

NoteIf you cannot open the filler capin frigid days, you may tap it.And then try again. If your vehicle will be out ofuse for a long time, pleasedrain the gasoline in the tankoff to prevent gasolinevolatilizing to damage vehicleparts.

Description of environmental protect-ion◎ So long as the automatic fueltruck nozzle stops, the fuel tank is"FULL" and do not charge it anymore. Otherwise, the internalexpansion space of fuel tank will befilled and the fuel will spill if beingheated. Wipe the spilled fuel offimmediately, otherwise, it maydamage the paint surface.◎For vehicle equipped with catalystconverter, never drive to that thefuel is exhausted. Since this maycause overheating and damage tothe catalytic unit.

NoteThe fuel vapor is highlyflammable. Make sure to keepthe gasoline away from spark, flame and other smokingobjects, and shut down theengine.Gasoline vapor catching firemay result in serious burn anddamage your vehicle.

Start the engine

69

Before engine start

Before engine is started, the shiftlever of cars equipped with manualtransmission should be moved toneutral gear.It is proposed to pedal brake beforestarting a car equipped with manualtransmission. After engine is started, please relea-se ignition key immediately tomake it move from "START" to "ON".Please avoid synchronous running ofstarter and engine. After being started, the engine undercold condition will generate strongerrunning noise because fuel pressureshould be enabled firstly duringhydraulic valve clearance adjustm-ent. Therefore, this is a normalphenomenon. Please don't keep the engine of aparked car running for a long time.

Start the car and drive it as soon aspossible.Prevent high-speed running andsharp speed-up before engine reac-hes its running temperature. It isprohibited to start a car equippedwith exhaust gas catalytic converterby dragging it for more than 50m.Otherwise, not fully burnt fuel willflow into the converter and thendamage it.As for engine start based ondragging, please try to use battery ofother vehicles as auxiliary start.

NoteDo not run the starting motorexceeding 15s at one time. If theengine cannot start, please try itagain after 10s. This will help toavoid damage to the startingmotor.Do not have the engine racingover 5s. Too high temperaturewill result in exhaust systemdamage.

Check coolant

Engine coolant expansion kettle islocated within the engine compart-ment on site of vehicle passen-gers. For specific position, refer toGeneral Layout of Engine Compart-ment.

Notes

If screwing coolant expansionkettle cap or radiator coverwhen the engine and theradiator is hot, steam and hotliquid may spray out and burnyou. Therefore, do not screwthe expansion kettle cap andradiator cover when the engineand the radiator are hot. Thevehicle must be parked on a flatground. After the engine iscooled, coolant level shall bebetween the upper limit (F) andlower limit (L) signs of thecoolant expansion kettle. Whenthe engine reaches the strengthof normal work, the level willrise. And after the engine iscooled, the level will drop again.

109

If you need to fill coolant for morethan 4 times within a year, youshould have the cooling system ofyour car checked by JAC authorizedafter-sale service center for salooncar. If you have used effective coolant, you don't need to add inhibitor oradditive that may improve coolingsystem performance. Such inhibitoris not good for the system.

In the event of mixed use ofthem, there may be chemicalreaction among various addit-ives, thus causing the additiveinvalid.

Add coolantIf the liquid level is below the lowerlimit (L) sign, it may add suitablecoolant mixture into the expansionkettle, but fill after the engine iscooled only.

If the coolant is splashed ontohot engine parts andcomponents, you may be burnt. The coolant contains glycol. Iftemperature of engine parts andcomponents is high enough, glycol will burn. Therefore, donot splash coolant onto the hotengine. When closing theexpansion kettle cover again, please confirm the cover isscrewed tight.

Notes

Notes

It is very dangerous to add cleanwater into the cooling system, because boiling point of cleanwater or alcohol is lower thanthat of normal coolant mixture. And coolant alarm system of thecar is set according to normalcoolant mixture. Use of water orother unsuitable liquid mixturemay result in engine overheat, but the alarm system will notsound an overheat alarm. Theengine fires, which may burnyou or others. Make sure to useliquid mixture of clean drinkingwater and suitable coolant at theratio of 43/57.In cold days, water may causefreezing breakage of the engine,

radiator and other parts andcomponents. Therefore, pleaseuse the recommended coolantand correct coolant mixture.

You may take off coolant expansionkettle cover after the coolingsystem, including coolant expansionkettle cover and radiator hose iscooled.Add suitable liquid mixture into thecoolant expansion kettle until hittingthe upper limit sign of the expansionkettle. Wait for 5 minutes, and thencheck whether the liquid level isbelow the upper limit sign. If yes, continuously add some coolant toincrease the liquid level to the upperlimit sign. Repeat such step until the

The front seat of your car may beequipped with a safety beltpre-tensioner, which is able toprotect safety of the driver andpassenger on the front seats duringserious collision. Upon drasticcollision, safety belts and airbags offront seats will work together. The safety belt pre-tensioner sharesthe same working principle withemergency locking belt retractor.Upon emergency brake, the belt

retractor will be locked. And thepre-tensioner will work and pull thepassenger and the driver reverselytowards the collision direction incase of drastic collision, thus helpingthe passenger stay in the originalposition. The safety beltpre-tensioner is a component of theentire SRS.As the pre-tensioner is activated, you can hear slight cheeps. This is anormal phenomenon and is notdangerous. The safety belt pre-tensioner isspecially designed for suddenserious collision and can only beused once.

How SRS works

When the ignition switch is placed to"ON" position, SRSCM monitorscollision sensor signals and all partsto judge whether the airbag isneeded to be expanded according tothe severity of front collision. When the ignition switch is placed to"ON" position or the engine isstarted, the SRS warning light on theconsole flashes for 6s, and then isoff.

When SRSCM detects that theenergy generated by front collision issufficiently big, the airbag expandsautomatically. When the airbag expands, the linercover in front of the airbag is torn anddetached with the action of expansionpressure. Only when the liner cover istorn securely, the airbag can expandcompletely to provide protection.

The airbag that expands completelyin combination with the safety belttensioner can reduce the forwardforce of the driver and occupants, soas to reduce the risk of injury tohead and chest. The airbag shrinks immediately afterit expands, with an interval of about0.1s. This will not hinder the driver'sline of sight.

Note

◇When SRS system works, large blast sound is heard, followed by smoke and dustseen in the vehicle. This isnormal and brings no danger. However, the smoke and dustgenerated from airbag expansionmay cause allergic skin. Pleaseclean your skin with warm waterand soap.◇If the airbag cover of the driverand assistant driver's airbagcover are damaged, or the airbagcover on the backrest of thedriver and assistant driver'sseats is damaged, the airbagcannot work. You must replacethe airbag module on thesteering wheel and the airbag

Be ready todeal with accidental situations whendriving in urban street, oncountryside road or express way.Assume that passerby or otherdrivers may neglect and do wrong.Predict what they will do andprepare for what they do.◇Keep sufficient vehicle distance. This is the best measures forcautious driving in urban orcountryside area. Because youcannot predict when the vehicle infront of you will brake or turnsuddenly.◇Concentrate on driving. Any thing

that distracts attention, such ascommunication through mobilephone, reading, or picking things upfrom floor, will hinder normal driving, and may result in collision and eveninjury.

Three systems of a vehicle make itto be driven to the destination. These systems include brakesystem, steering system andacceleration system. Three systemsmust function at the position wherethe tyres and road contact.Sometimes, for example, driving ona road covered with snow or water, the requirements for these controlsystem exceed the scope that thetyres and road can stand. Thatmeans the vehicle may be out ofcontrol.

Vehicle control

Brake

Control operation includes sensationtime and reaction time.At first, you need to decide whetherto depress the brake pedal, this issensation time, and then you mustlift your foot and depress the pedal,

attention and judgment.Drinking driving may result insevere and even fatal trafficaccidents. Never drive afterdrinking or travel in a vehicledriven by a drunk driver.

this is reaction time.Average reaction time is about 3/4seconds, but this is only averagetime. One driver may have veryshort reaction time, while anotherdriver may have a reaction time aslong as 2 to 3 seconds, dependingon age, physical conditions, vigilantness, coordination and eyesight.Alcohol, drugs and dejection alsohave impacts. Even if the reactiontime is 3/4 second, when a vehicleruns at 100km/h, it will also goahead 20m. Under emergentsituations, this distance is too big. Therefore, it is very important tokeep sufficient distance with othervehicles.Of course, actual brake distancemay vary depending on road surface

157

Page 158: Aluguel de servidores de TeamSpeak - JianghuaiAutomobileCo.,Ltd.igorbarros.com.br/manuais/JAC J3 en.pdf · 2017. 1. 10. · Wherethereissafetytip,vehicle damageandenvironmentalprotec-tiondescriptioninthe

(highway or sandy soil road), roadconditions (wet, dry, frozen), tyretread, brake condition, vehicleweight and brake force.Avoid depressing brake pedalsuddenly at unnecessary time. Somedrivers drive irregularly, such asdepressing the brake pedal shortlyafter depressing the accelerationpedal, instead of keeping pace withthe vehicle flow. This is an incorrectpractice. The brake cannot getcooled down in continual emergencybrakes. Frequent depressing ofbrake irregularly may speed up thewear of the brake. Keeping pacewith vehicle flow with a certaindistance may greatly reduceunnecessary brakes, which canimprove brake effect and lengthenthe service life of the brake.

158

Turning under emergent conditions

Sometimes turning is more effectivethan brake. For example, you climbup a slope to find that a big truck isparking in your lane, or anothervehicle comes in from somewhere,or a child rushes out from parkingvehicles and stops just ahead of you,you may use brake to evade theseobstacles, provided that you can stopyour vehicle in time. Sometimes youare unable to achieve it as there isnot sufficient space. At this time youneed to take evading measures topass around the obstacles.Under these emergent situations, your vehicle will present its preemin-ent performance. First depressbrake pedal. Refer to Brake in thischapter. You had better decelerate yourvehicle if a collision is likely to occur.

Then pass around the obstacle byturning to the left or right accordingto existing space.High concentration and decision arerequired under this emergentsituation. If you hold the steeringwheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clockpositions according to the recomm-ended method, you can turn thesteering wheel quickly by 180degrees without moving a hand. You must do it quickly and turnswiftly, and bring the wheels tonormal position after evading theobstacle. In fact, be sure to drive cautiouslywith the safety belt fastened sincesuch emergent situation may occuranytime.

Page 159: Aluguel de servidores de TeamSpeak - JianghuaiAutomobileCo.,Ltd.igorbarros.com.br/manuais/JAC J3 en.pdf · 2017. 1. 10. · Wherethereissafetytip,vehicle damageandenvironmentalprotec-tiondescriptioninthe

Vehicles may be out of control whenthey skid side. Cautious drivers cantake appropriate measures accordingto the existing driving conditions andavoid overspend driving according todriving conditions, thus avoidingmost side skids. However, side skidmay occur anytime. There are three side skids thatcorresponds with three controlsystems.1. Wheels do not rotate in case ofside skid due to brake. Your vehicleis equipped with ABS system whichcan help you avoid side skid due tobrake.2. Side skid due to turning meansthat tyres moves with turning forcelost as a result of too fast vehiclespeed or excessive turning on curveroad. Releasing acceleration pedal is

159

Out of control due to side sliding

the best way to deal with side skiddue to turning.3. Side skid due to accelerationrefers to driving wheel sliding as aresult of excessive opening ofthrottle valve.

Note◇Any traction force controlsystem can only help avoid sideskid due to acceleration. If thetraction force control system isin closed status, the best way todeal with side skid due toacceleration is releasing accele-ration pedal.◇If the road is covered withwater, snow, ice, sand stone orother objects, the traction forcemay reduce. For the sake of

safety, reduce vehicle speed andadjust driving method accordingto these road conditions. Sincedriving on wet road can lengthenthe brake distance, and vehiclecontrol is also limited, it is veryimportant to slowing down spe-ed.◇When driving on a road withreduced traction force, try toavoid sudden turning, accelera-tion or brake, including enginebrake through gear shift.

Driving at night is more dangerousthan at daytime. One of the reasons isthat some drivers are affected byeyesight and fatigue problems. The following is a small tip for drivingat night.◇Driving Carefully.◇Do not drive after drinking.◇Adjust the mirror inside the vehicleto reduce glare from the head light ofvehicles behind.◇Keep a big distance from othervehicles.◇Slow down speed, especially wh-en driving on express way, with thehead light illuminating a limited areaahead.◇Be careful of animals when drivingin countryside area.◇If you feel tired, stop your vehiclebeside the road and have a rest.

◇Approaching the head light maymake you blind temporarily. After oneto two seconds or even moreseconds, your eyes can re-adapt todark environment. If there is glaringlight, for example, in a case where adriver does not change head light todipped light or his head light is poorlyaligned, slow down speed. Avoidseeing the head light from vehiclesahead.◇Keep the internal and externalsurface of front window and allglasses clean. Dirty glass mayaggravate glares. There is dust on theinternal surface. Dirty glass makeslight more glaring than clean glass, making your pupil dwindle repeatedly.◇You can identify sombrous objectsby rotating your eyes constantly whenturning or driving on curve road.

Driving in downtown area

One of the biggest problems fordriving in downtown area is vehicleflow in downtown street. You mustpay close attention to the behaviorsof other drivers and the traffic signallight at the same time. The following are methods forimproving safety for driving in dow-ntown area:◇Fasten safety belt.◇Find the optimal route to thedestination and keep driving route inmind.◇Adjust driving posture. Correctdriving posture is very important todriving safely, and can eliminatefatigue from long time driving, ensure sound driving profession, andmake driving operation more correct, rapid and reasonable.◇Be cautious to nonmotor vehicles.

Driving on express way

Express way is safest in all roads. But there is special driving rules fordriving on express way.The most important suggestion fordriving on express way is to keeppace with traffic flow and drive onthe right side. Keep a speedconsistent with that of most driverswhen driving. Too slow or too fastdriving may obstruct smooth trafficflow. The left lane on express wayshould be considered as overtakinglane.Generally there are directionpassages at entrances of expressway. If you can see express waywhen driving along entrancepassage, you should check trafficflow. Identify where you canintegrate to traffic flow. Whenvehicle speed is similar to that of

Drive in medium to low speed atroad crossing or mixed traffic road.Be ready to brake and stop yourvehicle to be prepared for suddenlane change of non-motor vehicles.◇Identify traffic signs. Slow down inadvance when driving to a crossing.Take care to observe traffic signs ofroad and crossing, and correctlyidentify your own driving lane.◇Improve reaction ability. Goodvisual field and composed reactionare key to safe driving.

traffic flow, integrate you vehicle totraffic gap. Turn on steering signallight, check rearview mirror, and takea glance backward if necessary. Tryto integrate traffic flow smoothly. After integrating traffic flow onexpress way, adjust vehicle speedaccording to the speed limit on roadsign or traffic flow speed (in case ofslow traffic flow speed).Check rearview mirrors beforechanging lane. Then use steeringsignal light. Before driving off the lane, take aglance backward quickly to ensurethat there are no other vehicles inyour blind area. When driving on express way, always keep a proper vehicledistance.Slow down vehicle speed slightly

when driving at night. Please drive in a proper lane inadvance before driving off theexpress way. If you miss the exit, never stop your vehicle and reverseit in any case. You should continuedriving to next exit.Exit passage may be a curve road, even with large curve sometimes.Speed limit is generally indicated onroad sign. Slow down speedaccording to speedometer instead ofyour movement sense. After drivingat high speed for a certain miles, thespeed that you feel may be lowerthan actual speed.

162

Before long distance driving, makesure that you have been prepared.Try to have a good rest. If you haveto set off under poor mental status,do not drive too long distance at thefirst phase of your trip.Check vehicle, and you need tocheck the following parts:◇Check whether detergent is full, and all windows (internal andexternal surface) are clean.◇Check whether windscreen wiperis in good condition.◇Check whether fuel, engine oil andother oil are at specified level.◇Check whether all lights worknormally.◇Check whether light lens areclean.◇Check whether tyre tread figure issuitable for long distance driving, and

Driving in rainy days and on wet roadmay bring trouble. As the traction oftyre on wet road is not as big as thaton dry road, the brake, accelerationor turning performances are poorer. In addition, tyre traction is evensmaller if tyre tread figures are nearlyworn out. Heavier it rains, poorer thevisibility will be. Even if the frontwindscreen wiper is in goodcondition, it is hard in heavy rain toidentify road sign, traffic signal, roadlabel, lane edge, even passerby. Therefore, it is advisable to slowdown speed and drive carefully if it

begins raining when driving. The front windscreen wiper shouldkeep in good working condition, andthe detergent pot for frontwindscreen should be filled withdetergent. If the windscreen wiperfalls off when it works, or there is anarea left not wiped on the frontwindscreen, or the rubber strip isseparated from the wiper, the wipermust be replaced.Trouble may occur when drivingacross a big water pit or passingthrough vehicle washing device.Water may affect brake perform-ance. seldom or do not contact roadsurface completely.Floating skid is not common. If tyretread is worn out, or one or moretyres have insufficient pressure, floating skid is likely to occur. Ifthere is too much water on the road, floating skid is also likely to occur. Ifyou can see the inverted image oftree, wire pole or other vehicle, andsprays are seen when rain drops inwater, floating skid may occur.Floating skid tends to occur whendriving at high speed. There is nostrict and constant driving rules forfloating skid. The best suggestion isto slow down speed when driving inrainy days.

Note

◇If you do not slow down, thebrake may not work normallydue to overheat. In this case, brake effect can be affectedwhen descending slope, evenyou cannot brake. This mayresult in accidents. Whendescending a steep slope, useengine to brake through use oflow gear shift.◇It is very dangerous to skid atneutral shift or shut off enginewhen descending slope.Deceleration of vehicle at thistime must be completed bybrake. And the brake may notwork normally due to overheat. In this case, brake can be

If you drive frequently on steepmountain road, or if you will drivethere, the following suggestions willmake your trip safer.◇Maintain good vehicle conditionsCheck all oil levels and brake, tyres, cooling system and transmission. These systems bear large load whendriving on mountain road.◇Master techniques for slopedescending. The most importantthing is to use engine brake to slowdown speed. Use low gear shiftwhen descending slope or whendriving on long slope.

Driving across deepwaterarea

NoteIf driving across deepwater pitor watery area, water mayenter the engine from air intakeinlet, which may damage theengine seriously. Never driveacross a deepwater area with alevel slightly lower than vehiclechassis. If you cannot evadedeepwater pit or watery area, you must slow down thespeed.

◇When driving on road covered withsnow or ice, it is recommended thatyou use snow tyre or anti-skidchain.◇Avoid driving at high speed, sudden acceleration, emergencybrake and sudden turning.◇When driving on this kind of road, depressing of brake pedal may resultin skid of tyre. When the adhesionbetween tyre and road surfacereduces, the wheel may skid, andtraditional brake technique cannot beused to stop a vehicle. Brakeprocess varies depending onwhether the vehicle is equipped withABS. If ABS is provided, depress thebrake pedal firmly and keepdepressing it. If ABS is not available, depress the brake pedal briefly andquickly. Completely depress it and

◇Master techniques for slopeascending. Try to apply high gearshift.◇You should drive in your own lanewhen driving on a slope with doublelanes or on mountain road. Do notzigzag on the road or cross themiddle line. Drive at proper speed sothat you can keep your vehicle onyour own lane.◇Take special care when crossing aslope top. It is likely that there are

-tem, and replace spark plug ifnecessary. Check all ignition wiresand accessories to confirm thatthere is no rupture, wear or damage.

Prevent lock from freezingIn order to prevent lock from free-zing, inject de-icing fluid or glycerininto the keyhole. If key hole iscovered with ice, spray de-icingfluid on it. If there is ice inside thekey hole, you should use pre-heatedkey to melt the ice. When usingpre-heated key, avoid hand burning.

Note

The temperature range for useof anti-theft key with anemitter is -40oC-80oC. If thetemperature of anti-theft keyfor unlocking the frozen lockexceeds 80oC, the emitter onthe top of the anti-theft may bedamaged.

Water spraying system of windowshould use specified anti-freezingsolutionIn order to prevent water sprayingsystem of window from freezing, use specified anti-freezing cleaningsolution according to the instructionson the container. Never use enginecoolant or other coolant, which mayotherwise damage painting surface.

Prevent parking brake from freez-ingUnder some circumstances, yourparking brake may be frozen inengagement status. If there is snowor water around the brake, theparking brake may be frozen. If there is a risk of freezing, the gearshift lever should be placed to gearshift 1 or reverse shift for manualtransmission, and to "P" position formanual-automatic transmissionwith the tyres fixed to prevent fromrotation. And then release brake.

Never allow snow or ice to be piledunder the vehicleUnder some circumstances, snowand ice may pile under the mudguard, and hinder rotation andturning operation of wheels. This

It refers to sleep when driving. Wecall it road hypnosis for the moment. On a road that extends smoothlyalong which you can only see thesame scene, hear tedious soundsgenerated by the tyres, engine andwind, you may get drowsy. Neverallow this to happen to you!You can try to avoid this byobserving the following relevant tips.◇Make sure the vehicle is wellventilated, with comfortable andcool internal environment.◇Do not stare at the same place.Always take glance at the front andboth sides of the vehicle. Checkrearview mirror and console fromtime to time.If you feel sleepy, stop your vehiclebeside the road, at resting place, repair lot or parking lot and have a

nap or do some sports, or both. Forthe sake of safety, considerdrowsiness that occurs in driving asan emergency.
