Embedded Data

Embedded  Data  is  the  flour  of  advanced  survey  building.

Three ways to use Embedded Data

1.  Information that you have about your respondents before they even take the survey.

2.  Programming inside of the survey.

3.  Filtering your reports after you’ve collected responses.

Create a File to Import

Group people based on how they answer questions to then see a specific blocks

Use embedded data to filter your reports.

Embedded data is used with . . . 1.  Information known beforehand

2.  Programming throughout the Survey Flow

3.  Filtering your reports

• Triggers, Logic, Survey Flow –  Problem –  Solution –  How it’s done

1. Triggers

What happens when a response is recorded?

Scenario: •  Education technology company (“ABC Learning”) •  Ongoing customer satisfaction survey for the “Learning

Tablet” •  School principals take survey to nominate teachers •  Teachers profiles are created and stored in a panel for

future emails •  Teachers receive first satisfaction survey by email

Complete Project:

Teachers Receive Email:

Dear  Janice,    Please  take  this  short  survey  regarding  your  experience  with  the  ABC  Learning  Tablet.    Thanks!

HOW IT’S DONE

Here’s what’s cookin’: Trigger Tart

1.  Use embedded data to determine whether respondent is a teacher or a principal

2.  If principal… 1.  Use display logic to only show principal questions 2.  Use email trigger to send email to teachers 3.  Use panel trigger to store teachers in panel

3.  If teacher… 1.  Use display logic to only show teacher questions

Here’s what’s cookin’: Trigger Tart

1.  Use embedded data in URL to determine whether respondent is a teacher or a principal

2.  If principal… 1.  Use display logic to only show principal questions 2.  Use email trigger to send email to teachers 3.  Use panel trigger to store teachers in panel

3.  If teacher… 1.  Use display logic to only show teacher questions

Embedded Data in URL •  Principal URL:

–  /SE/?SID=SV_5Kg3R7kF •  Teacher URL:

–  /SE/?SID=SV_5Kg3R7kF&Teacher=1

Here’s what’s cookin’: Trigger Tart

1.  Use embedded data in URL to determine whether respondent is a teacher or a principal

2.  If principal… 1.  Use display logic to only show principal questions 2.  Use email trigger to send email to teachers 3.  Use panel trigger to store teachers in panel

Key Takeaways 1.  Email triggers…

1.  Send upon survey completion 2.  Can include dynamic content using piped text

2.  Panel triggers… 1.  Create panel members upon survey

completion

2. Advanced Display Logic

Scenario:  •  You have multiple products that need to be

evaluated.  •  You want each respective product to have a custom

theme and custom header.

HOW IT’S DONE

Here’s what’s cookin’: Display Logic Delight 1.  Create the Header 2.  Assign the Header and the Theme

1.  Give Header a value 2.  Give the Theme a value

3.  Create the in-page display logic

3. Survey Flow Making your survey a dynamic experience

Scenario: •  Human Resource Consulting Firm •  Sending large survey to client base •  Distribute using anonymous link •  Respondents create login, and use login to reenter survey

session on any computer

HOW IT’S DONE

Here’s what’s cookin’: Survey Flow Souffle 1.  Find out if the respondent is new or returning 2.  If new…

1.  Direct to login creation blocks 2.  Use panel trigger to store info in panel 3.  Use embedded data tricks to redirect respondent to

login page 4.  Respondent logs in using authenticator

3.  If returning… 1.  Use embedded data tricks to skip login creation 2.  Respondent logs in using authenticator
