Safety Problem & Motivation Safety Problem
o Construction site experiences high accident rate that
causes cost overrun and time delay
Critical Reasons
o Safety knowledge communication problems
o The lack of retrieving and sharing practical experience
CIB 2012
September 09-11, 2012
Motivation
o The development of social network has become an
important issue to improve knowledge sharing process
o The semantic Wiki and ontology application are the
potential and powerful tools to facilitate information
exchange, reusing and knowledge acquisition

Enhancing construction safety information sharing and
knowledge exchange
o Social Communication
o Sharable Content
o Collaboration
Improving the safety performance in construction site
o Understanding the potential accident and the critical cause
of accident as well as prevention method
o Attaining practical experience

Potentials
o Supporting the good environment for construction safety
knowledge retrieval
Limitations
o The pre-defined time for knowledge confirmation process
o The knowledge transfer procedure sometimes meet
problems due to the abuse of semantic resources tagging,
linking and ontology tagging
SNSS system Evaluation
CIB 2012
September 09-11, 2012
Developing the real system as pedagogical tool for
educating student. Students use the SNSS system to
discussing and sharing ideas through sharable content and
collaboration function.
Being directed toward the combination of SNSS and vitual
technique for establishing the good knowledge sharing
environment as well as developing the construction safety
training or education tool.
Ongoing Research
CIB 2012
September 09-11, 2012
SNSS that utilized state-of-the-art of semantic wiki and
ontology, create more effective and efficient representation
and communication tool
SNSS allows users conveniently and cooperatively
contribute, refine, and retrieve construction safety
knowledge
