November 5, 2017Over the past few months I have been asking myself, “Am I supposed to be having so much fun?” Serving as Pastor here at St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish is a blast. In spite of the hard work, long days and often constant challenges that pop up, it is incredibly life-giving to serve here at this Parish. It is life-giving because of the incredible number of people who have responded to the call of the Gospel to become followers of Jesus Christ; to become, as Pope Francis is fond of saying, “missionary disciples.”
There is something deeply satisfying when we know that, in spite of our many flaws and weaknesses, we are fulfilling our purpose.
As we grow the number of missionary disciples in our midst we need to grow in our ability to mature, equip and shepherd them. We are in a parish that has a good number of events each year, and plenty of parishioners who served generously with their time and talents. It takes a robust team of staff to maintain such a parish and you have made this possible by your giving. Make no mistake. Your financial contributions to our parish has saved lives. It has transformed lives. It has made a real difference in our community. Because of your giving we are fulfilling the mission that Jesus gave to us.
In the next few weeks we will be rolling out our annual Stewardship of Treasure Report, where you will find not just the numbers and information necessary to satisfy the need for accountability and transparency in financial matters, but also a clear testament to the fruit of your giving. As we look ahead at the coming year, I ask that you continue to reflect on how the Lord is calling you to support the mission of our parish so that the Kingdom of God can continue to grow in our midst. Isn’t this so much more exciting than simply paying utility bills?
In Christ,
Fr. Jerry TavaresPastor

MESSAGE SERIES: YOU’RE DEAD…SO NOW WHAT?Despite the advances of modern medicine, the mor-tality rate is still 100%. Everyone dies and yet we do not like to talk about death or think much about it. As a Church, death is one thing we have going for us. Despite the distractions of entertainment and our culture, we all must face our death and the death of the people we love the most. Death forces us to look at the big questions of life and the deepest longing of our hearts. In this series we will look at Catholic teaching on what happens after you die. We will show how we long for something beyond this world and how our actions in the life impact what happens to us in the next.
