ReflectionAt the time Jesus lived, not everyone believed in resurrection. The Sadducees especially resisted the idea and tried to make Jesus look foolish when they asked who would be the man’s wife in heaven. They posed a situation where a woman’s husband died. As was the custom of the time, the brother of a deceased man married the widow in order to insure heirs. They predicted that hypothetically if enough husbands died, she could meet seven husbands at her own resurrection. Which one would be her husband in heaven, they wondered? Neither we nor the Sadducees can fully understand life after death, but Jesus asks us to trust that something much greater than our understanding awaits us at the resurrection.

Vocation ViewAs the Church-year comes to a close, may the Lord Jesus strengthen your heart for every good work and word. May you live your vocation.

Book of the Faithfully DepartedDuring the month of November, we remember, with hope, our loved ones who have died in the Lord. The Church offers special prayers during this month for the faithful departed. There is a Book of the Faithful Departed available near the sanctuary to help with this remembrance. You are also encouraged to offer Masses for all those who have gone before us. Please feel free to write down as many names of the deceased on the envelopes provided (at all entrances and by the book) so they may be remembered in prayer at Masses during November. Then place your envelope in the basket in front of the altar.

Reflection for FamiliesHow many countless sentences from our children begin, “What if?” Indeed, the Sadducees were trying to trick Jesus, but in the case of our children, they are eager to learn. Their minds and imaginations work rapidly and it often requires the wisdom and patience of Jesus to keep pace with these inquisitive and curious gifts.

Sanctuary BeautificationThe Knights of Columbus have started work in the Sanctuary near the tabernacle to beautify the wall. We thank them for their generous contribution. Please excuse the mess.

Remembrance DayLet us remember, especially November 11th, all those who fought in WWI, WWII, the Korean and Afghanistan wars and all wars where freedom was and is fought for. Lest we forget.

Have You Ever Thought About Pre-Authorized Giving??This is the easiest, most convenient and effective way to always support the parish community as we look to form faithful disciples proclaiming the Good News!! Pick up a form at the WELCOME DESK, in the Narthex, or contact Hanna in the Parish Office.Thank you for your support!

Ministry

Stewardship Resurrection is a theme in today’s Scripture passages. In the Second Book ofMaccabees, seven brothers and their mother die because they refuse to violatetheir religious beliefs. In dying, their hope is in the resurrection of the dead. InSt. Luke’s Gospel, the Sadducees, who do not believe in the idea of theresurrection, challenge Jesus. He responds that those joined in marriage herewill not be married in the next world. They will be like angels — children of God.Marriage is not necessary in the afterlife. Jesus further proclaims that God is theGod of the living as referenced by Moses at the burning bush; in other words, there is an afterlife. There is also a resurrection of the dead after Christ’s secondcoming. Christian stewards find comfort in their beliefs in eternal life andresurrection, not only for the living, but also for those loved ones who havepassed to the Lord. Furthermore, are we, as Christ’s disciples, willing to stand uplike the seven brothers for our faith against attacks on our religious beliefs andliberty, whatever the source? It is an excellent practice to contact our state andfederal legislators when laws are proposed or passed that are contrary to Catholic teaching.
