Reflection—July 3Jesus sent out seventy-two disciples to spread the Good News and continue the work Jesus had begun. They had not yet experienced the Good News of the resurrection, but following Jesus, they proclaimed that the Kingdom of God was at hand and healed the sick. Jesus had them pack light, taking only peace with them. Whatever town they entered and whatever home, they were to greet the people with peace, even if the people did not want to hear what they had to say. When the seventy-two returned, they were most pleased by the fact that they had power over evil forces. Jesus told them not to think so much about that as the fact that they had already been assured of salvation.Vocation AwarenessEach of us has received a call/vocation from God. By our prayers, we help each other to be faithful to this call. This week we especially pray at the daily Masses for:MONDAY, July 4—Fr. Craig CruikshankTUESDAY, July 5—Fr. Reflection—July 10Jesus was tested by a lawyer who wanted to prove that he was a good person. Assuming that he knew the answer, he asked Jesus what one must do to have eternal life. Jesus coaxed from the man what was the greatest commandment: To love our neighbor as we love ourselves. But the man asked Jesus to define neighbour. Jesus explained who our neighbours are by telling the story we know as the Good Samaritan. In a land where Samaritans were despised, a man traveling on a road fell into the hands of robbers who beat and robbed him. Two people who would have been expected to stop, a Levite and a priest, actually passed the man by leaving him for dead. A Samaritan, however, stopped and tended to him, took him to a safe place and paid for his care. The point of Jesus’ story was not so much who the neighbour was but how the lawyer should have responded as a neighbour.

Jesus deserved all the glory and deserved to be served. But instead He served us. He was born into a poor and lowly family. He washed the feet of His disciples. He humbled himself to the point of a humiliating and painful death on the cross. But in order to love us, teach us, save us - He became like us so we can spend eternity with Him. "Because of His boundless love, Jesus became what we are that he might make us to be what He is"

This past week at Edge we learned about Jesus as the Good Shepherd and how Jesus gives Himself as a gift to us in the Eucharist. We also played some games like Balloon Pop and follow the Shepherd.

StewardshipToday, in St. Luke’s Gospel, Jesus appoints and sends 72 labourers into the “field” - the world—to spread the Good News, similar to the Harvest-Master sending workers into His harvest. Christ states, The harvest is abundant but the labourers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out labourers for his harvest. Jesus asks these labourers not to take extra clothes and to spread peace to the households they enter. Christian stewards are called through their Baptism to cultivate the Lord’s vineyard and to produce good fruit. In accepting this call, we make the sacrifice to become a new creation in God’s love to serve the Church and our neighbour in need. A few time a year, go through your closets and dress-ers for clothing donations to Vinnie’s, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society’s store.

Lighthouse Catholic MediaFor Love and MarriageJohnnette Benkovic grew up Catholic, but later fell away from practicing her faith. In 1981, after years of marriage to Anthony, she began a process of conversion which brought her into a deep relationship with Jesus Christ and to a sincere love for her Catholic Faith, but her husband did not share her experience. The Lord, through the promptings of His Holy Spirit, showed her how she could better love her spouse.BONUS: Johnnette’s interview with her husband Anthony after his conversion is a testi-mony to the work of grace in their marriage amidst exceedingly difficult circumstances. We ask for a donation of $5 per DVD which can be found in the Narthex.
