Santa Sophia of Constantinople

Santa Sofia or Hagia Sophia was a former Orthodox Patriarchal Basilica, later converted into a mosque and now a museum, in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Sophia is in reality the phonetic transcription into latin from the Greek word "wisdom". The temple was dedicated to the Divine Wisdom; a picture taken from the Book of the wisdom of the Old Testament, that makes reference to the embodiment of the wisdom of God or second person of the Blessed Trinity.

Basilica of St. Sophia church, consecrated to the Holy Wisdom, considered as the main building of Byzantine Constantinople (now Istanbul) and one of the most relevant of the history of architecture. It was designed and built by anthemion) immediately below it of Tralles and Isidore of Miletus between the years 532 and 537, commissioned by the emperor Justinian I

From the date of its dedication in the year 360 and until 1453 served as the patriarchal cathedral of Constantinople, except between 1204 and 1261 that was converted into a cathedral during the catholic Latin Patriarchate of Constantinople from the Latin Empire, established by the crusaders.

After the Ottoman invasion the building was transformed into a mosque, keeping this function from the May 29 from 1453 until 1931, date on which it was secularized. On 1 February 1935 was opened as a museum.

On the other hand, were highlighted in the so-called industrial arts': the manufacture of jewelry and all kinds of luxury objects, made with gold, silver and precious stones; the silk fabrics; the embroidery and the bindings, very appreciated in the regions we traded.
