Activity days are a popular part of Big Brothes Big Sisters programming. Another way the organization keeps the kids involved in fun and informative events. Seen above, the ‘lit-tles’ enjoy a day of zip-lining in Lafleche, Quebec.
Josh White and ‘Little’ Jonathon enjoy great seats at an Ottawa Senators last season.
Right, a group of several children and their mentors were off to Calabogie Peaks for a day of tubing.

to the staff and volunteersfor a fantastic family event…..unlike any other!
The highly attended fun-filled, family food fes-tival is back for the 11th year on August 4th-7th with some big improve-ments in store for what is sure to be another suc-cessful fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Leeds Grenville.
The Kriska ‘Kid Zone’ is always a hit for the kids, the Canadian Tire Fishing Derby, the Keystorm Vol-leyball tournament and Howard Travel’s ‘Rib Eat-ing’ contest are just a few of the many returning fa-vourites from past years.
New to the festival this year is the stage for en-tertainment and events throughout the weekend. The stage will be located just north of the volley-ball court, facing the park, giving attendees music to listen to while in the park and dining areas. “The stage is a major addition we made for this year,” said BBBS Executive Director Jane Fullarton. “The location of the stage
will help the music reson-ate throughout the park and seating will be much more comfortable than in the past.”
Also new this year is the ‘Big Blue Machine’, a term coined for the BBBS trailer which will be mak-ing funnel cakes and the ever popular blooming onion. There will also be a mini-petting zoo and pony rides and the un-veiling of ‘Sir Snorts-a-lot’, BBBS new mascot, as well as a Chinese food vendor, another first for Ribfest.
Hardy Park will be transformed next week as the construction of the ‘little city’ commences.
The event has been improving each year and with last year’s estimat-ed attendance numbers in the 55,000 range, or-ganizers are looking to maintain the momen-tum. “This is our major fundraiser for the year,” said Fullarton. “I want everyone to come out, eat some great food and enjoy everything the fes-tival has to offer.”

Electronic recycling initiative and Sir Snorts-a-LotFCM Recycling is
pleased to announce that it will be holding a col-lection event at Brock-ville Ribfest located on the corner of Water Street and Kincaid Street, beside Hardy Park in Brockville, Ontario on Friday Au-gust 5th from 11am until 5pm and Saturday Au-gust 6th from 9 am until 5 pm, in collaboration with the Big Brothers Big Sis-ters of Leeds & Grenville (BBBSLG).
FCM Recycling is one of North America’s lead-ers in the recycling and safe disposal of end-of-life electronic equipment. We dispose of EOLEs with no impact to the environ-ment and the highest level of data protection. We boast major process-ing facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, gov-ernment certifications, over 18 years’ experience, and knowledgeable, dedi-cated personnel.
One of our key object-ives was to become a pi-oneer in e-waste environ-mental services. We have achieved that objective. Today we strive to main-tain our position as indus-try leader by continuously improving our processes and using the best practi-
ces available to us and the recycling industry.
EOLES received at any of FCM’s various state-of-the-art recycling facili-ties, are broken down into various recyclable com-ponents such as copper, aluminum, plastics, glass etc. Equipment is fully destroyed, ensuring that no data becomes exposed to pilfering, with Cer-tificates of Destruction issued on request.
Staff from FCM and BBBSLG will be on hand to assist Ontario residents to recycle their unwanted electronics including PCs, computer monitors, CD/DVD/VCR players, radios, printers, faxes, keyboards, televisions, cell phones and other items, the com-plete list along with more information can be found at brockvilleribfest.weeb-ly.com/dont-miss.html. The collection will be free for all Ontario residents and a portion of all pro-ceeds will be donated to BBBSLG.
More information can be found by contacting FCM Recycling at www.fcmrecycling.com or by calling (888) 781-8111.
Come get your Bloom-ing Onions and Funnel Cakes at this year’s Brock-
ville Ribfest while sup-porting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds & Gren-ville. Be sure to visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds & Grenville Conces-sion Trailer where hard-
working and dedicated volunteers will be making crispy, flavourful Bloom-ing Onions and melt in your mouth, warm, sweet and decadent Fun-nel Cakes. All proceeds
from the sales go towards funding the high qual-ity mentoring programs that BBBSLG provides to the children of Leeds & Grenville. Please take this opportunity to help
a child in your commun-ity TODAY and checkout the “BIG BLUE CONCES-SION TRAILER” during Ribfest! You will not be disappointed.
This year Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Gren-ville would like to introduce “Sir-Snorts-A lot”. BBBSLG’s new mascot will be on site throughout Ribfest.
