OPERATIONS: Today is our deadline for police officer

candidates to submit a supplemental

questionnaire in order to advance in our 2015

police officer hiring process. Over the next

week, we will be reviewing the questionnaires

and narrowing our list of candidates for formal

interviews.

Our newest hire, Nathan Cook, started work this

week with orientation, use of force and

procedural training. Nathan will begin his

formal field training on Monday, December 22.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, Officers from

the Cloquet Police Department, Carlton County

Sheriff's Office, Fond du Lac Police

Department, Esko/Thomson Police Department

and Carlton County Probations (ARC)

participated in the Shop with a Cop program.

The event took place at the Cloquet Wal-Mart.

Twenty middle school students were selected to

go shopping with the officers. Two to four

students were paired with an officer and were

then turned loose to shop at Wal-Mart for

whatever and whoever they wanted to buy gifts

for. They were provided with a $50 Wal-Mart

gift card to pay for their items.

The goals of the program are to allow for the

officers to spend time with students who may

benefit from the positive interaction with the

officers. It also gives them a chance to buy some

gifts they may not otherwise have been able to

purchase.

Not only is this a great event for the students, it's

also a fun time for the officers to watch the

students shop and admire how thoughtful and

caring they are as they chose their gifts. The Cloquet Police Department would like to

thank Wal-Mart, Bernick's Pepsi and the staff at

the Cloquet Middle School for their support!

PATROL/DETECTIVES: On December 11, 2014, a structure fire

was reported at the Golden Gate Motel in

Scanlon. Because of fire damage, 32

tenants were eventually displaced. Our

staff became involved while assisting

other area emergency management groups

who were providing aide to those affected

by the fire. Several tenants were long

term renters at the motel. Through this

past week, the number of those in need of

services was brought below 10 and

housing options are being evaluated for

each of those tenants. A special thank you

goes out to the staff and management at

the Black Bear Hotel who have been

extremely generous in their support by

providing rooms and resources for the

displaced tenants.

On Sunday, December 14, 2014, officers

assisted at a residential fire in the 1300

block of Jean Marie Street. The fire

caused significant damage to the home.

No one was injured.

See you at the Christmas party!
