will give a talk
on his trip to
South America

Hey Everyone,
Well it's that time of year those of us who are auction go'ers love the most. Its winter and
spring fish auction time. If any of you keep track and like to travel, starting in just a week or
two you will be able to attend an auction almost every weekend. Coming up is Stark County,
Akron, Neofish, Buffalo, Erie, Medina, Lorain County and Columbus. This Saturday, February
20th, the Motor City Aquarium Society in Detroit will be holding their auction. If you can make
it, its a really good auction to go to.
In case some of you don't know, Neofish now has a Facebook page called "Neo-fish News. Any
member can post things in regards to the club. Idea's or things you would like to see. As most
of our members belong to other social media groups, we are asking that we keep it to club
activities and place your buy and sell items in the other groups. I want to thank Justin Way for
setting this page up and getting it running. Please keep it to club news or Justin might just
delete your post. He has already deleted one of mine.
For those of you who ordered fish, please remember they will be at Friday's meeting so
remember to bring a styro or two.
This month's meeting we will have Dave Williamson and he will be speaking about his trip to
South America. It will be very interesting to hear about the area and fish available.
Lastly, next month will be our Spring Auction. It will be Sunday, March 20th. Like our
other auctions we will be needing lots of help from you the members. Please write it
down on your calendar and give us a few hours. Everyone benefits from the
monies the auctions bring in, so find the time and give your club a hand.
See you Friday night,
Dan

The Northeast Ohio Fish Club (fish) is an all species Fish club
in Northeast Ohio. We pride ourselves in being a progressive club offering all our members not only the
normal fish club programs, but others like individual e-mail addresses, club member websites, spawning
con-tests, aquarium decorating contests workshops, road trips and more. Our goal is to make every
meeting exciting, educational and leaving you with the feeling that you can’t wait until the next meeting.
Look at our website and see if this club isn’t the club you have been looking for. If you already belong to a
club, that’s okay, think about making us your second club and come enjoy the fun.
Both www.neo-fish.org and www.neo-fish.com show the same website.
The Password for the Members Only area of the website is neofish2013.
As always, the Northeast Ohio Fish Club (NEOfish) holds monthly meetings in Independence, Ohio on
the 3rd Friday of every month. Meetings are at:
Independence United Methodist Church
6615 Brecksville Road
Independence, OH 44131
There is no smoking on Church Grounds or littering of cigarette butts on nearby properties.
8:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. (Christmas Party starts at 7:00p.m.)
Everyone interested is invited to attend. NEOfish is an all species club, such as Betta, Guppies, Tetras,
Barbs, Cichlids etc.
The Board meets before the general meeting at 7:00p.m. at the church as well. Even though you’re not on
the board, your are still welcome to sit in on the meeting. You would not have a vote but you certainly
could share some input. Per our Constitution and By-Laws, this is also the appropriate time and place to
air any concerns about the club. It would be helpful to first contact a board member to discuss the issue
but if you feel that the whole board needs to hear it then feel free to attend.

underwater
By STM
Hello everyone and welcome to an edition of underwater. Most of you are probably
wondering who is STM. Well it's me Stan the man. A member of Neo (NEOfish). I re-
ceived permission by Dan if I could write a column. I was given the green light. So if I
miss spell a word or your name, that's on me. This column will be PG-13 . We have a
vast variety in ages in our club. I want everyone to enjoy reading this article. So the
ground work has been done.
Whether you have won a gold fish in a carnival, or are pushing 300 plus tanks like Larry
in Akron, the fish hobby has something for you and all of us. You may like a certain
species, or a variety. You may only want a single tank, or you may want a larger scale
room. It's unlimited on what you want to do with the hobby.
Myself I'm from the guppy side of spectrum. I'm into show fish. I told my wife Lori I
was joining Neo. She asks what kind of fish they have? I said a variety including cichlids.
She says what's a chicklid. I say cichlid . Well after I explained, Lori understood. Tell
you what folks, she's got a keen eye for guppies. Lori also knows the work involved.
I'm entering my seventh year in the hobby. Learned a lot, but so much more to learn.
My mentor has been our very own Frank Orteca. Frank attends meetings and enjoys
Neo. I also got permission from Frank to use some of his quotes and ways he taught
me.
Tell ya something, Frank is a forty plus year pro. The real deal.
Here's some ideas for the club......how about a window decal for your ride. Neo fish,
with maybe our e Mail address or a slogan, more than a club. How about a magnet for
the fridge with our logo. These aren't money makers, but a great way to help get the
word out.
So for now... Keep em fed, change water and like Ray Kingfish Lucas says, enjoy YOUR
Fish!!!!!! STM

Announcements (cont.) Breeder Award Program (BAP)
Welcome back! We had 28 spawns turned in at the January meeting and there was a lot of first time offerings 13 to
be exact and 2 new contributors. I would like to welcome Jessica Foster Oravetz and Bob Blazek to the program.
There will be some challenges this year. I will be presenting a wrinkle in the program to the Board before the meeting
Friday and the challenges will be posted here next month. I can't really say much more here and now but I think it will
make the year more interesting. There will be easy challenges but attached to them will be incentives for going a step
farther, but that step will be more like a leap. Those that jump and are successful will be rewarded. I am doing this to
try and bring more variety to the program since the majority of the fish being turned in are Cichlids. I like Cichlids and
I think most of the members like Cichlids but we really are an all species club.
I'll see you all at the meeting!
