Hello and Merry Christmas to you all. This year has gone by
so fast. Can you remember some of the years passed that the
entire week for Christmas was filled with joy and happy peo-
ple sharing great memories? I sure do.
I think the meaning behind Christmas has lost it’s sense of purpose, as of late. When
we grew up and in school would perform a Christmas Carol or perform a Play about
Christmas time. There were no people who attended that, who was offended by any
message of god’s love was there. Protests? Do you think that there wasn’t people who
don’t believe in God who still acknowledges Christmas for presents? Not everyone
celebrates this American tradition. But only recently has there been threats of law-suits
and discrimination complaints. I suppose all my years here, I am noticing more of what
we cannot say or do, in fear of offending? Hasn’t this gone too far already?
My point is being that, America has always had different nationalities within our
country. We all respected whatever you felt you believed in. Like most of us do today.
However, the last few years we have seen Christ removed from being in displays in
one’s yard, to limiting what songs can be sung by our school children? I see this as an
every growing problem with our society. Our country was founded by people who had
one belief in God and that through him we can all live free and pursue our own happi-
ness they said. So, are we supposed to change America so much that it won’t resemble
USA anymore? I hope not. Your children need you to keep traditions alive. Right?
Religion to some is ‘everything’. Everything they say or do, emulates to share the
love of Jesus amongst your friends and families. Even if you don’t believe in God, it
wasn’t a bad thing to say, “God Bless you, and yours”. Even the words Merry Christ-
mas aren’t displayed openly everywhere to everyone. Why? It is a nice greeting
amongst strangers for the Holidays, isn’t it? Even Russia says Merry Christmas!
Being that I was raised in a much larger city than any around these parts. You would
think that there will come a time and a place when the Christians of our land will stand
up to tell Congress (the world), what we feel we can say or do without beheadings and
or violence! If millions of Christians all around the world can gather in peace and pray
for the night and birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Why can’t any and all other religious
people who are NOT Christians do the same? They don’t. They hate you?
They destroy anything that doesn’t conform to their ways. Can you think of how
many of us Christians will be forced to face this serpent with such a force of strength
that it cannot survive? Will it even come to that? I think it is inevitable.
The ways of radical Islamic behavior cannot co-exist within our country, not safely
for anyone. It is being proven so just in and around Dearborn Michigan, as of earlier
this year. Do you know what is in details of a Sharia Law? That is not acceptable by any
American who has lived in America most of their lives. Agree?
With the number of drastic changes this Obama administration has distracted us with
thus far, remember the core values of what we ‘stand for’. While we were distracted
with lies, corruption and deceit in every aspect of our government. Obama has been
meeting with terrorists, making deals with the devil? It was a sad day for our history for
our leader to rename the Christmas Tree to the Holiday Tree. What was the benefit of
doing that? Nothing. It just shows us people more and more of how we used to know
things, they will never be the same again. That is bothersome to me, what about you?
I know this year has been an eventful news year. I have printed facts that they won’t
dare say to you on the TV. Why? Because, I feel it is my responsibility as a news busi-
nessman to sound the alarm when needed, to holler when a whisper doesn’t get a re-
sponse. To let you the reader know of what I hear or discover. To hear your stories and
share them with each other in a way that others may relate to it, involving you.
Just think of the few changes in codes, ordinances and Laws that have taken place
the past 5 yrs. now. It has been brought to my attention from board members and Com-
missioners alike, that our printing the facts caused them to take action. That actually
makes me proud. It shows that those of you who wrote or called me asking for help or
where to turn, has worked out for them after all. I wish I had the space to print all of
your e-mails, thanking me for helping them through this newspaper. There will be more.
That is what ‘community’ is about. For the south side to be as concerned with north
of the Bay as well as their ‘own only’. To rid neighborhoods of drug dealers to ensure a
safer place for children to grow, is no different than helping the family living in a
‘residential zoned’ area: not have a flea market or manufacturing business infiltrate ille-
gally next door. It is all for the purpose of those of us, who invest in their lives and
homes (for family value): not profits of selling wares, non-stop, without a care to the
neighborhood? Just like a drug dealer, sneaky suspicious people constantly around your
homes, all hours? How would you like it if it were you? You may be next!
Well, that is why we stand up for so many of you already. If you don’t address each
case until it’s stopped, it will continue under the cover of night. Dealer is a dealer, no
matter what your selling. Thanks to those of you assisting with investigating these is-
sues. We will not stop until all is corrected, fined or removed. No one shall take advan-
tage of another man’s right to live in peace. Just as it was when we originally bought it.

Navy spy "fish" could be
operational next year It looks like a fish, sort of.
It swims like one too, if you squint.
It's even named after a fish - OK, a Disney one.
The Navy is hoping that'll be enough to get the little
swimmer into enemy territory undetected to patrol
and protect U.S. ships and ports from harm.
Project Silent Nemo is under way this week at Joint
Expeditionary Base Little Creek, where a team of
civilian engineers and military officers are testing
the capabilities of a 5-foot, 100-pound experimental
robot that's designed to look and swim like a bluefin
tuna.
The robotic fish glided through the harbor Thursday
as sailors took turns controlling it with a joystick. It
can also be programmed to swim on its own. The
robot's black dorsal fin poked above water as its tail
wiggled back and forth, propelling it almost silently
just below the surface.
Nemo was developed by the Office of Naval Re-
search and is being tested by the chief of naval op-
eration's Rapid Innovation Cell - a group of junior
Navy and Marine Corps officers tasked with putting
emerging technologies to use for the military. The
same group has been playing around with 3D print-
ers, augmented-reality glasses and about 10 other
breakthrough gadgets.
"This is an attempt to take thousands of years of
evolution - what has been perfected since the dawn
of time - and try to incorporate that into a mechani-
cal device," said Jerry Lademan, a 27-year-old Ma-
rine captain who's leading the project. The idea is to
"essentially reverse-engineer what nature has al-
ready done."
Typical unmanned underwater vehicles are torpedo-
shaped and propeller-driven. The natural swimming
motion of a fish makes far less noise and is more
difficult to detect with sonar devices.
"The first time I saw it, I thought it was a living
fish," Lademan said. "It looks alive. It's crazy."
The Navy envisions deploying a fleet of robotic fish
to patrol harbors or swim into hostile territory.
Nemo could be used to search for sea mines or in-
spect ship hulls for damage - two critical tasks that
often put humans in harm's way.
For now, the fish is just a prototype, content to
swim quietly through friendly waters.
It’s the holiday season, and along with that comes parties and lots of
drinking. Liquid calories can torpedo an otherwise-perfect diet plan, but
Caroline Cederquist, MD, a weight loss specialist, says that doesn’t have
to be the case if you make smart decisions.
Q: What is the effect of alcohol on our overall nutrition plan?
A: There are several effects of alcohol, one of which is that drinking al-
cohol tends to lower inhibitions. So after having a glass of wine or two,
sometimes people will have lower resolve to avoid dessert, or eat less, or
stay within a certain calorie plan.
Another thing we know about alcohol is that it can really disrupt sleep,
which can really have an effect the next day in terms of caloric intake.
One of the reasons alcohol affects sleep is it actually lowers blood sugar.
Many of my patients, if they have a meal that’s heavy in carbohydrates
and they have a few glasses of wine with it, it’s very common they’ll
wake up early – like 2 or 3 in the morning – wide awake from the ef-
fects. This is that type of sleep that it’s hard to get back to sleep, a lot of
tossing and turning. Sometimes people just give up and decide they’re
going to be up for the rest of the day. But then during the rest of the day
they’re actually tired, and there’s a lot of grabbing of food for energy.
Humans don’t really have the ability to compensate well for liquid calo-
ries. When you look at cocktails and mixed drinks, they may have 300,
400 calories. Sometimes the frozen drinks are into the 700-calorie range.
What we found is that when people add drinks to meals, they usually
don’t eat less.
Q: Some people believe a calorie is a calorie is a calorie. Are alcohol
calories different? Should they be looked at differently than food
calories? A: Yes, for a couple of reasons. With regard to a calorie is a calorie, it’s
true. Theoretically, everyone could lose weight if they lowered their calo-
ries to a certain level. But the thing is, people don’t eat calories, they eat
food. What I mean by that is that if you ate 1,000 calories over the course
of the whole day of cookies – so maybe it’s 10 cookies, maybe it’s 5 big
cookies, it doesn’t really matter – but all you ate was 1,000 calories, most
people should be able to lose weight with that, but most people don’t.
Q: Is alcohol actually doing something to our metabolism? Does it
change it? Or it just increases our hunger? A: Alcohol can increase our hunger. I think the whole key with alcohol is
moderation of the amount.
If people drink moderately, and that’s really a big key that I always go
through with my patients – that moderate alcohol intake for women is
defined as 5 drinks per week of 5 ounces of wine, or one and a half mixed
drinks. Not a glass per night, and certainly not two glasses per night. I
have such a large percentage of patients that say, “I have two glasses of
wine every night,” and they feel that that’s moderate.
Chipley- Drivers will encounter alternating lane
closures on State Road (S.R.) 20 between Roberts
Drive and the Walton County line Sunday, Dec.
14 through Thursday, Dec. 18 from 7 p.m. to 5:30
a.m. as crews remove debris and perform sod
work.
In addition, drivers will encounter lane closures
near the Eglin C-6 Site Road and County Road
(C.R.) 83A in Walton County Monday, Dec. 15
through Friday, Dec. 19 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as
crews perform drainage work and widen the road-
way.
Flagmen will be on-site to safely direct traffic
through the work zones. All planned construction
activities are weather dependent and may be re-
scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Motorists are reminded to pay attention and use
caution when traveling through the work zone.

Greetings and Merry Christmas!
The annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting was a great
success this year with a larger than normal turn out for both,
many thanks to Mary Neal who directed both events and to
The Town Planters Society for all of their help with not only
the tree lighting but ,also the decorations around town. The
Freeport Town Planters Society also held their Festival of
Trees this past weekend at the Blount House with 8 beautiful
trees of all different decorations and the event was very suc-
cessful and the winning tree was created by the Wood Turning
Guild of Freeport .The Freeport City Council only has one
scheduled council meeting for this month and quite a bit was
accomplished during that meeting. Planning Board appoint-
ments were accepted and the new members are Ron Brannon,
Jim Murray and Mark Martin- congratulations and thank you
for serving. The Parks and Recreation Director applications
have been reviewed and the top 4 have been selected for the
council to take a look at and the new director should be se-
lected within the next week or so and begin work in January.

used by the county and a city wide Candlelight service will be

5:00P.M., come bring your lawn chairs and join us for a
Christmas Celebration with music and celebrations of the sea-

hope to begin the very first of 2015, as well as adding a new
outdoor stage pavilion behind city hall for outdoor concerts,
movie nights and other events that may take place- we will

Through Jesus
Hope Lives
A Christmas Story For a moment or perhaps a long
while, we are dropped into the
depths of despair, a tragedy of in-
tense proportions. In the darkness we
struggle with difficult and often con-
fusing feelings.
As Christians we often feel guilty
about these feelings. All are true
human emotions, and necessary in
enabling us to cope.
God understands our pain and our
suffering. He will wrap his loving
arms around us, He will be there
when no one else can. After a time
we begin to feel his presence.
You can see a faint light in the dis-
tance. This is the light of HOPE.
Moving toward the light -The Holy
Spirit takes us by the hand and helps
us to move even closer to the light.
The light of the Lord that shines into
each of our lives. Here in The Lords

ACLS training gets to the heart of the matter By Ron Kelley
Advanced training – it is what keeps health care professionals at the top of their
game. As new techniques emerge and older techniques are refined, advanced training
for emergency responders becomes a life-saving imperative.
Recently, Walton County Fire Rescue (WCFR) partnered with Healthmark Re-
gional Medical Center to provide advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) train-
ing for nurses and emergency staff. The two-day training session took place at
Healthmark and the class was at maximum capacity.
“We had to ask some people to wait until the next class,” said WCFR Interim Fire
Chief Bobby Martin. The 16-hour training course counts toward recertification for
paramedics, emergency room nurses and other medical personnel. Martin said that he
had been contacted by Healthmark Director of Nurses Rebecca Scott, R.N., about
doing a class here for some of the newer nurses and as a refresher course for more
seasoned medical staff.
“The main focus of this class was to demonstrate how to treat and care for a patient
who may be experiencing cardiac arrest or might be in the early stages of some kind
of cardiovascular event,” said Chief Martin. “The idea is that if each emergency re-
sponder is following a standard set of guidelines, then from the ambulance to the
emergency room, the treatment will be seamless,” he said. “Where our guys leave off,
the E.R. nurses can immediately take over. We’re all on the same page, following the
same protocols. This ensures the best possible care for the patient and increases their
chances for full recovery.”
The classes were conducted by certified WCFR Paramedics Novia Brackin and
Greg Cain, who have a combined medical experience of nearly 50 years. “These are
two of our best people. Given their many years of experience, no one is more quali-
fied to provide this kind of training, which is mandatory for all our paramedics,” said
Martin.
The course teaches medical personnel how to properly respond to cardiac arrest,
how to recognize and treat the early symptoms, as well as what to do if the patient is
in full arrest and their heart has stopped. The course also covers proper IV therapy,
which drugs to administer, in what order and at what precise moment in the process to
administer those medications.
Brackin and Cain also demonstrated how to read 12-lead EKG rhythm strips, which
tells the nurse or paramedic exactly what is going on in every area of the heart during
the attack. Through the use of a heart simulator, the nurses were shown how to recog-
nize the different heart rhythms, even a fatal rhythm, and then immediately provide
the proper treatment.

DeFuniak Springs is now taking steps towards
the future After a lengthy meeting filled with numerous ideas and suggestions, the town
has made several agreements at the last meetings that are looking into the future.
They want to build a grow, live and work all right here.
Exactly, what Freeport is looking at right now. The interest is here. Freeport is
more diverse and obviously closer to the beaches and outlet malls. All the types
of businesses that would require to exist here in order for students to continue to
live and grow up here.
Maybe stay, add a family and that is how these thoughts of today can be
affected as early as next year. 2015 has plans of being the beginning of a change
that will last most of our lifetimes. Both cities has shown increase of population
as it shows in the school systems. Work together, watch those dollars!

The worst thing you can do this week is keep your feelings to yourself. If you're experiencing a rough
patch with your mate, this will be the week to get everything out in the open and, hopefully, clear the air.
You might consider couple's counseling if there's a situation you're not sure the two of you can manage on
your own.
It appears that the more you talk to one of your pals about what's happening between you and your mate,
the more you'll be frustrated at what you'll hear. In some cases, you might even get the distinct feeling that
your pal is trying to sabotage things between you and your partner. If this is the case, you might need to
re-evaluate how important this friendship really is.
You won't do well with ultimatums this week -- especially as they relate to your love life. If your sweet-
heart is pressuring you to take a backseat to his or her career ambitions, or your own, this might turn into a
deal-breaker. Make it clear to your partner that your love for each other might be very real, but you also
need to respect the person you're with.
If you suspect that your lover is keeping secrets from you, this week you might feel as if it's impossible to
contain your temper. You may very well be correct about your suspicion, but even if you are try not to
accuse him or her of the worst. This might be a lie of omission that he or she kept quiet out of a feeling.
If you and your partner are not on the same page when it comes to handling finances, things could get ugly
this week. You might try to maintain control of the situation only to meet the most intense resistance
you've ever experienced from your mate. Consider enlisting the help of a third party, such as a financial
adviser or accountant, to help mediate the situation.
Your relationship has great potential for improvement and harmony, however, it may appear as if you've
taken two giant steps backward this week. Try your best not to engage in any power struggle with your
mate this week, especially if it involves your professional goals or a situation with one of your parents.
If you're going through any type of health situation, you may feel as if your sweetheart is not offering
the type of support you need. Make it clear what you'd like from him or her just in case there's any con-
fusion. Give your lover the benefit of the doubt. He or she might want very much to help, but they may
cross the line for you personally. Do something productive.
You might experience one of the messiest and most passionate weeks you've had in quite some time. If
you're caught in a bad romance, it's possible you now must pay the price. If there's a love triangle, or if
your lover is hiding something from you that would be a deal breaker, you're likely to discover the
secret information.
If someone in your family doesn't approve of your sweetheart, he or she will surely voice their opinion
this week. You won't appreciate how blunt their remarks come across, and it's likely you'll rush to
defend your partner -- even if there's a morsel of truth behind what your relative is saying.
You'll have a definite bite to your words this week, and it appears they're aiming straight toward your
sweetheart. You might not mince words when it comes to sharing how you really feel about a financial
problem or other wrinkle in your otherwise perfect relationship. This appears to be a practical concern -
- one that you want to handle together pragmatically.
The last thing you'll want to do this week is take a financial risk with your sweetheart or loan him or
her money. Blending money and love will not be a good idea in any capacity because there's a strong
potential for it leading to a frustrating power struggle, or -- even worse -- feelings of resentment. If
your lover asks you for money, or if you get the sense that he or she is using you for what you can offer
materially, which you’ll find is the issue source of your problems.
Your feelings for your partner might be super intense this week. If you're in a relationship that borders
on unhealthy, it's possible you'll even feel consumed or obsessed with your lover, and you will try to
manipulate or control your bond. Be honest with yourself if you notice you're feeling extra vulnerable
in matters of the heart this week. Don’t be swayed by false intentions.

PEKEO (Submitted by Gaye Patton)
Lost, abandoned and left on the cold shelter's
floor, I gave them 8 years of my life, but they
loved me no more.
Afraid, alone, I had lost hope for my future, I had
simply shut down. Then, I was told about Alaqua,
a place that is the opposite of this pound.
The kind folks at Alaqua, whisked me away to
this magical place,
My hope was restored, they renewed my love for the human race.
I'm not a young fellow, pushing the ripe old age of eight,
but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy life and still keep my faith.
For, you see, here at Alaqua we all are treated with love and respect,
we to learn to trust, play and thrive, soon we forget about the neglect.
Recess with the residents, is my favorite parts of the day,
I run, play and exchange "pee-mails", with all. I just love to play!
At eight years old, I'm a refined gentleman, and I not a grumpy old man,
but, I'm set in my ways, a bit food protective, I know you will understand.
Once you've been hungry, and your tummy does nothing but growl,
it takes someone with patience, someone that will give me a while.
My health is pretty good, a few aches and pains, relieved with medication,
but it doesn't slow me down, I will keep up with your greatest expectations!
My eyes are a bit cloudy, but I can see none the less,
I get around just fine, my vision causes me no stress.
The holidays are coming closer, and I know they can be a bit hectic,
but please consider providing a home for me,....an elderly geriatric.
A home for the holidays, that is the only thing on my Christmas list,
A bed, a hot meal, a human to share my love, and of course a Christmas kiss.

Please come an see me at Alaqua. You might be
the one to make my Christmas wish come true!
I'm living at Alaqua Animal Refuge, and I've
been selected as the Pet of the Week! Santa,
I've had a difficult year. I'm two years old,
and last year I asked you to help me find a
better home. Remember, my owner, had no
time to spend with me, or to teach me man-
ners. I was so sad, and lonely. Thank you for
helping my previous owner understand that it
was best to surrender me. I am thankful I'm
at Alaqua, they are teaching me to be a good
citizen. I am neutered and my DNA is mix of
Catahoula and Border Collie.
This year, I want to give you my grown up
Christmas list. I've learned a lot over the last
year, and I recognize my needs. You see, I
need a home with lots of love. I need to gain
confidence and I know love will help me do
that. I'll need a home with an understanding
and patient family. I'm learning to control my
temper, and I'm trying to be kind. I'm making
progress, and the people at Alaqua tell me
I'm doing better. I'll need a home without
another pet, as I'm best without additional
competition. With the perfect human, I will
be a devoted pet. I do better with gentleman
humans. I had a tough time in my brief life,
and I promise, if I can find the perfect home,
I will do well.

New Years Resolutions By Rian Lyday
It is less than a month until 2015 comes kicking and swinging into full
action and most of us are starting to think about resolutions. This is the
time that people think about regret and change…making life better.
Where did the concept of New Year’s resolutions begin? How did such
a strange trend start? The custom of setting “New Years resolutions”
began in Rome, with Romans making resolutions with a moral flavor:
mostly to be good to others. But when the Roman Empire took
Christianity as its official state religion in the 4th century, these moral
intentions were replaced by prayers and fasting. This replacement had
varying degrees of success over the centuries, and Christians hesitated
observing some of the New Year practices associated with honoring the pagan god Janus. I
decided to research the most popular resolutions and share them with you. These are the top
10 most broken resolutions:
Lose Weight and Get Fit
Quit Smoking
Learn Something New
Eat Healthier and Diet
Get Out of Debt and Save Money
Spend More Time with Family
Travel to New Places
Be Less Stressed
Volunteer
Drink Less
Here are some alternative resolutions that could make life a little bit better for everyone
around you and are actually doable. Try tackling a few of these and forget regret. It is a new
year, a clean slate…live for today instead of rehashing yesterday, you might just like it!
Make a new friend every month
Develop a relationship with your body
Learn a party trick
Break a record
Get your photo taken in five interesting places
Learn something you never learned as a child
Try a new food each week
Make the usual unusual
Sort out a financial worry
Do something nice for someone each week

RACHEL MADDOW: The president reiterated that same point today saying there's no
point for asking on the part of Congress before I know exactly what it is that's going to be
required for us to get the job done. So dialing it back. But honestly, this is the thing. Be-
cause the president telling the media directly you're getting ahead of what we're doing or
thinking about or planning, we don't have plans to bomb Syria, stop reporting that we do,
but the president saying that, that will change the way the press talks about this issue.
Basically, the press got direct instructions from the president today that we've been get-
ting something wrong about what they're doing. But the rest of the story here is the U.S. is
already fighting military battles against ISIS in Iraq.
